Speaking of root beer floats... that reminds me of soda and the flavor of vanilla. Which reminds me that I need to pick up some vanilla cream soda. Because, what else am I going to mix Apple Pie Moonshine with?!? (Not sure when I'll get to try it, but I can't wait!) Also, gratz on the quotes working again, Peng!
Oh... and I was just thinking, I should throw something in this thread besides beer reviews. So, here's a picture of Devon Aoki...
I know... she looks much younger than she is. She's 33 now... but after trying to find info on that pic, it looks like she may have been 16 at the time. I thought she was in her young 20s there... eep.
I was trying to think of something to say not beer related. So I sat here silently for 2 minutes and then took a sip of my star hill boxcar pumpkin porter and remembered I took my mom out to eat for her birthday a few hours ago. They had fin city's pumpkin ale so I tried it. Why do people who serve beer not know when to put beer in a glass and when to leave it in a bottle?
Any good bar or restaurant with an extensive beer selection will always serve the beer in the proper glassware.
This is a good restaurant with a typical bar in the next room. 5 or 6 craft beers is the best selection anyone is going to get on the Delmarva eastern shore.
One is supposed to serve a beer with a chilled glass and open beer in front of customer and leave it there with empty glass. Give the customer the choice .
Today was extremely unproductive. I layed in bed, ate a lot of food, watched Parks & Rec, cleaned up the house a tiny bit, tried to motivate myself to leave the house with almost no avail. I haven't had a day like this in so long.
I got back from my date a few minutes ago. It was such a good night. We went out to a Chinese restaurant, then a movie (The Martian... was not impressed), then back to her place to exchange bodily fluids. T'was a good night. I am feeling very content and about to crack open some beers now.
I believe I may have just found thee beer which rivals my all-time favorite imperial pumpkin ale. This is Jacked Imperial Pumpkin, which is made by the Uinta Brewing Company out of Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a 750ml corked bottle, which clocks in at a whopping 10.31% ABV. Really good shit here. Lots of pumpkin pie flavor in this beer, with just the right amount of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla spiciness. If you come across this beer, grab it.
21st Amendment Brewery is a highly regarded brewery which is known for the fact that all their premium quality brews come in cans. The two beers below are collaboration beers made with Elysian Brewing. The two beers below are part of a seasonal four-pack called He Said, He Said, which are seasonal pumpkin beers, two of which are Belgian-style tripels, and the other two of which are Baltic-style porters. Pumpkin Belgian-style Tripel Pumpkin Baltic-style Porter
It is above average. Has a pumpkin pie taste but not one of the better pie tasting pumpkin beers. Low abv at 4.7 which is disappointing because the price is equal to some 6.0+ abv premium beers. Bottom line. If you want a session pumpkin beer this is the one. Otherwise try another.
Man... there's just to many good beers out there! I definitely have to try that Jacked Imperial!! And the Baltic porter looks delicious. Hmm.. it's been a week since my last night o'drinkin... it's about time for another. Unfortunately, I don't have any beer on me and probably won't head out for any tonight. I'm kinda limited by not being able to start drinking until my kid goes to sleep, then most days we babysit starting early the next morning. Sometimes I make an exception and say "fuck it, I'll deal with 2 - 3 hours sleep". Tonight isn't likely to be one of them. But, we'll see...
So, I totally ran out and got myself a bottle of Jacked shortly after leaving that last post. And I'm drinking it tonight! I have to admit, I'm not getting the impressive amount of pumpkin pie flavor that P-Rat described. But maybe it's better chilled... I had it sitting on my counter for the past couple days thinking it might be better slightly cooled. For now, it's a fairly decent pumpkin flavor and a tasty brew overall. I'm certainly not regretting having bought it!
Really? So what flavors were you detecting more of? This beer I drank chilled, not warm. I don't think this would be a good beer to drink warm. I would not drink it COLD, but definitely not at room temperature either. The only beers I drink completely warm are barleywines, imperial stouts, doppelbocks/eisbocks, and some if not most Belgians (dubbels and quads mostly).
Yeah, it was a bit better after being in the fridge for a bit. But, it was still lacking compared with Elysian's Night Owl, which is pretty much my gold standard. I did get a measurable amount of pumpkin smell and taste. I got the spices and I always want to say coriander, but I have no idea if that's right to be honest. There was definitely a strong malty-ness about it... although, not as upfront after it chilled a bit. Good to hear your opinion on quads... that's one of the other two bottles I have.
