So, yeah... hello there, everyone! I only have two beers to review tonight, but it's for good reason. (One of them is rather high ABV, hehe.) But, for now... Beer #1: (Alc. 7.2%) (Departed Soles - Flavor Unit - Vol 4) Smell: Stone fruit and pineapple up first, with a whiff of pith. A bready body presents a continued citrus soul. Taste: Stone fruit pretends to come forward, but pith takes the lead with a little piney help. Pineapple wanders up on a cracker, with more citrus notes following. Overall, this reminds me of Five Alive, if it were a beer. Both juicy and dry, this seems more apt for drinking in the early evening than it does for the afternoon. A tasty brew that seems to get better with each sip. (I gave it a 4 out of 5 on Untappd) (No pic for this one, even though I think there should be.) (Once again, I present to the challenge to you, dear reader!)
I LOVE the pic you chose!!! (In fact, it reminds me that I always meant to getting around to a "Kick Approved" graphic, but as I'm a master procrastinator, it hasn't happened... but this makes me think it should.) And as for Five Alive, I have no idea if it's still a thing somewhere in our dimension. For some reason, it always reminds me of a vending machine at a specific sports club thingy place where I used to practice tennis as a teenager. *shrug* lol
But as I wasn't saying... I finished off that first beer and moved on to the second brew. This shit might be the strongest I've had yet. Even if it doesn't smack my mouth around like it should. Beer #2: (Alc. 17.2%) (Evil Twin - Bozo Beer) Smells: Dark chocolate, black coffee, and dark vanilla. A bready body carries a myriad of flavored whispers gently forward; chili notes, hazelnut, marshmallow, cinnamon. All sweetly roasted. Tastes: Black coffee steps up with vanilla and dark chocolate. A creamy, bready body serves up whispers of marshmallow, chili, and even further back, hazelnut and cinnamon. All with a roasty oak underpinning. Overall, this beer is pretty fucking fabulous. It's largely coffee and vanilla, with chocolate notes following close behind. The rest are details, each quiet on their own, but adding an altogether unique profile. Exceedingly pleasant.
I'd like to try a ''blond ale,'' called Leffe. It's supposed to be mildly fruity, and less bitter. I'd also like to find a raspberry ale, to take to a bbq on the 4th.
Not the kind I drink, lol. But yeah, still... that's some strong shit. And oddly enough, I could SO easily go for another. Before now, the strongest couldn't have been more than 14%. And this went down as easy as a velvety, creamy 8% stout. I miss it already, lol.
I remember coming across something in the 14-15% range. It was last fall and very hot out. I know beer isn't what you should be drinking on a hot day, but there is something refreshing about an ice cold beer that lends itself to chugging. Anyway, I ended up gulping it back without having paid attention to the alcohol content and man...did it hit me HARD! Head and tummy took a hit.
Oh hot damn... I imagine so! They can be deceptively tasty, if done right. That Bozo Beer is an absolute prime example of it. And a month ago, the Even More Bible Belt (also by EvilTwin) was a-fucking-mazing at 13%. So, I think the lesson is.. drink more EvilTwin.
I have had both tactical nuclear penguin and Sink the Bismarck. Their abv is more on par with some spirits.
This just might be the perfect summer beer ever made! I am truly in love with this stuff!! This blows the key lime pie gose out of the water.
Had my first raspberry sour tonight. Tasted like someone vomited in a wine cooler. 10 Barrels out of Oregon. Maybe they're just horrible? Anyway, it did it's job of making me drowsy. Surf's up in about seven hours, so I'm off to bed. But yeah, disappointing beer...
