I just finished drinking what have easily become two of my favorite imperial stouts. Imperial sweet stouts to be exact. The first is the barrel-aged version of Yule Maelk from To Øl out of Denmark. This is an imperial sweet stout brewed with lactose and aged in cognac and sherry barrels. It is fucking phenomenal!! For 15% ABV, you cannot even taste the alcohol. You get the beautiful barrel flavors without all the boozyness. That, and lots of rich chocolate malts, milk chocolate, vanilla beans, and a sweetness from the lactose. Absolutely incredible stuff!! It's like an alcoholic dessert in a glass. The second beer is on the same level. This beer is a beer from a country I don't believe I've ever had a beer from. That country is Estonia. This is Banger from Pogjala. It is an imperial sweet stout brewed with prunes, vanilla, and Habanero chilies, clocking in at 12.5% ABV. Super smooth, and a wonderful dessert beer for this cool summer night.
I am now moving on to a beer which I have had many times, and has long been one of my favorite of the style. This is Founders KBS (2017). Just a few months of age on this has really mellowed it out a lot and brought out so many of this beer's wonderful complexities.
I picked up 8 various single bottles from a craft beer store today, my jaw dropped a little when the cashier told me the price as it was about $15 more than I expected. I dont usually look at the prices because they're generally between $2 - $4 each When I came home I started going through the bottles and found the culprit - Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project's Serenata Notturna at $13.99 for a pint. Picked mainly for the artwork and name lol, and I was in the mood for the style - Belgian style golden ale Anyways, just curious if anyone has had it?
Crooked Stave is fucking fire! They specialize in sour and wild ales. I have not had that particular one you named, but everything I have had from them has been awesome. They are a very highly acclaimed brewery.
The Java stout from crooked hammock is exactly what I expected. A good dark pumpkin taste. Happy I tried something different rather than safe. The drinkability of this one is beyond any pumpkin or stout I have ever had. 2 more breweries on the entire peninsula before I have been to them all.
finally tasted doom and it is the best imperial IPA in bourbon barrels i have ever had. i know that isnt saying much but there is not much to say about this beer. great if you are looking for a tasty beer with no alcohol taste. shitty if you are looking for a tasty way to get buzzed or if you are looking for a nj beer and cant take the tour.
Take a trip to tired hands in Philly. Every other beer they have is a Saison and all of their beers are decent at worst.
I'm slummin' it tonight with a classic beer from the ROC. I would have to say this is my favorite cheap beer for when I am broke, or I simply want something cold and refreshing without having to think too much about what I'm drinking. So yeah, I do drink cheap beer from time to time. Not that cheap always equates to bad necessarily.
Picked up two bottles of this back in February when it was released, and have had this second bottle sitting in my fridge since. I always like to buy multiples of Grimm when I can, to see how their beers develop with age. This particular beer is a saison/farmhouse ale brewed with sage and pink peppercorns. I can say the sage and peppercorn character to this beer has really mellowed out since I had it back in February. It is really drinking beautifully at the moment. 8% ABV. Meilai.... I think you would really like this one.
Just got snow flyer from rusty rail brewing. Very good.I don't have a glass which makes me disappointed because I know it would be better if I could smell it while drinking it.
Stopped by triumph brewing. 7 beers and only 3 were good. 2 of those weren't available in a growler. Overall experience...below average for brewpubs I have been to but I didn't try any of the food.
