In the weekly 6 pack mix and match - not much of a selection this week because I went to a grocery store rather than a craft beer store Duclaw dirty little freak Boulevard brewing Tank 7 farmhouse ale Highland oatmeal porter Guinesss extra stout Duck rabbit milk stout Westbrook gose
I'm on the tank 7 now, solid farmhouse but the head is..weird? There are little clumps of head that aren't really going anywhere like there is soap in my glass but I know there is no soap in my glass Tastes great though
That is because of the wild yeast. It's called a rocky head -- classic wild yeast characteristic. What you describe is totally normal.
Had this for the first time just a few months ago. I did not get what the hype is about. It's definitely a solid beer, but nothing more than that. There are so much better IPAs, though.
First beer of the night. Tree House, of course. Gotta start the night off right.... And now finishing up my second:
Drinking gilded lily from carton. It's a tripel brewed with honey and white truffles. Honey is nothing new. But white truffles....I wish I could justify spending the money to know what a white truffles tastes like. So I have no idea if the truffle taste is detectable or completely missing from this one. I can definitely taste honey and something else sweet and fruity. Very smooth and light for a 10.6% beer. I'm not a big trippel guy but this one is definitely top 5 I ever had. Still not worth the 22 dollar price tag though.
Yeah, I have been into craft beer since about 2003, so I have had a lot of time to learn a lot of different things.
Now drinking Awake from Night Shft Brewing, a porter aged on coffee beans. SImply incredible stuff, and my favorite Night Shift beer to date....
man, i can't wait till fall!!! my favorite time of the year for weather and my favorite season for beer!
http://punchdrink.com/articles/when-did-rarity-equal-greatness-top-beers-list-craft-beer-rankings/ Interesting read a bit long winded but reminds me about all the unavailable beers that are supposed to be great.
That's when the best special beers come around here too (imho). Thats the time of the year i dive into special brews.
Back to the beer camp. White ipa with yuzu. Colab from Kiuchi brewery. Typical citrusy ipa with a pit of extra fruit taste. Well made but the more ipa's I taste the more they taste similar. Lately there have been slight variations on them but overall none I have had stand out as superior.
At tired hands...Pretty much so PR can't tell me to shut up until I try it.... The on tap is weak if you don't like Saison but heaven if you do. Got the 'do you like breathing ipa' Very good. Not hoppy or citrusy, just smooth, clean and refreshing with a very slight hoppy taste on the back end. Easily better and cheaper ipa's available closer to home but I will admit that it is a good offering. (Sorry if my post is all over the place, I am writing it over several minutes so my thoughts might change over a couple minutes but you might be reading it over a few seconds) The real gem is the candied bacon...way expensive but that is the thing that would make traveling here worth it. The spelt ipa is being retapped so I tried the rhubarb Saison. Didn't expect much being I don't like Saisons I was skeptical. It actually taste how I think sours should taste.not like soured fruit but like a slight fruity taste of a sour fruit beer.
Got the double talk dipa. The smoothest lightest dipa I ever had, although at 7% it's kind of on the low side of abv for a double. Would get a growler of it but want to try their other dipa which is with yuzu...had enough samples though, still have to drive home.
