Well i live close to the brewery. Unfortunately there is a big Bay between me and Richmond. Gonna be as far as norfolk this weekend. Won't be back across the bay for 2 weeks minimum. Thinking about going if I can get it though.
Going to point Pleasant next time I am in that area. I used to go all the time when I played hockey in wall...they didn't have any great beer places back then though.
Picked up a few beers today. Drinking kowabunga from bolero snort. Best kolsch I have ever had without question. I tasted it before checking the style..I thought it was a ridiculously citrusy ipa. Also got thier crushabull Bullard Raging bull And kow lime pie. Last cold one I got was from departed soles. It's called modern cup of sole. (Some sort of coffee beer) From the warm case I picked up founders doom Sierras 2016 big foot. Stillwaters big bunny Forgotten boardwalks pocket trick And otter creeks orange dream.
Crushabull is next. I figured it was a session beer by the name. Once again it's the best one of that style I ever had...and once again it is a style I don't usually try. Just a very light ipa with a taste that reminds me of cinnamon mixed in.
Ive a case the guinness extra stout, case of sam adams porch rocker, 12 pack of bush, 6 otravez .. i should go to bed. Ive anither day of train tracks.. fml..
Bolero snort is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries. Drinking the double ipa now. By far the most malty ipa I ever had. I can't find one bad thing to say about this beer.
Just cracked open thier kow lime pie definitely the worst of the bunch but still has a good taste to it. Guy at the store said they are near philly. So when I got back to my sisters house I looked them up with intentions on a trip there. Google says they are in northern nj not south western nj. And apparently have no base of operations that I can see. To correct myself, they are quickly becomeing my favorite brewers. Being that they don't seem to have a brewery yet. This lime beer says it's made with key lime, milk sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. I have tasted similar drinks made with chemicals. Although I like the taste of this one my mind just shouts disappointment at the connection it is making to wine coolers.
Being that I prefer malty beers to hoppy ones....Yeah it's not simple to explain because if this was a basic ipa and had a malty taste added in then I would have some criticism about it. however going in blind because I didn't want the description on the can putting thoughts in my head....ummmm, yeah if I purchased an ipa and got a malty beer I may have been upset but I just purchased a beer that I heard was good and tried it without reading the style (it's in very small writing near the warning label.) It did cross my mind that they put the wrong label on or the brewer just dosnt know his styles. That's fine with me if his other projects are like the first 3 I had.
Last but not least is their amber lager. Nothing special. This is the one I expected to be the best so I am disappointed but really as far as lagers go, this is up there pretty high with my favorites. It's just that it's missing a certain malty sweetness I would expect with the word amber in its name. It's got the smell down and the initial taste. But then it takes a u turn from what I would expect to a light sugarless taste with a nice bite.
On to departed soles' coffee beer. Very watered down for a coffee. It has a nice bite on the back end but not much going on otherwise. There's nothing bad about it...except that 90% of coffee beers I have had just have more coffee flavor. It's like they made a whole percolator worth of coffee from a single k-cup.
Had the iced tea from the beer camp pack. It's with mikkeller and it is among the best iced teas I have had. Hard or regular. Didn't taste like a tea until it warmed up a little. I got a strong apple cider taste while it was cold. Extremely smooth mouthfeel. Description says orange peel but the only thing resembling orange peel is the slight numbing of the tongue.
ND Doesn't live up to the hype for me, but solid nevertheless. Lots of piney hop resin matched with a sweet malt backbone.
Drinking Shploing!! Mangos'mores IPA from Omnipollo out of Sweden, an IPA brewed with marshmallows, graham crackers, salt and lactose sugar with mango and vanilla added. Sounds hipster af, but it actually works. 7% ABV. Seems to get better with each batch! 4.25/5 **awaiting Asmo's criticisms based on the beer's description alone**
No shit... I considered getting, like, half those beers when I was at the store a couple hours ago! (In fact, it was at that remodeled Spirits on 88/Bridge.) Good to know what you thought of those Bolero Snorts.. I cam thiiiiis close to getting one or two of them. I'll definitely have to put that brewery on my list of shit to try!
And obviously, since I'm in this thread, I'm drinking again. I'm starting the night with a sour, but then have a couple stouts for the remainder of the night. (And if I start feeling randy, I have a small airplane bottle of Patron XO Cafe to spike the night with.) So yeah, almost done with beer #1: (Alc. 4.9%) Smell - At first blush, a little funk. Then the lime and salt quickly take over, but gently so. Just a hint of dank hops fill in the background. Taste - A tangy citrus bite greets me first, balanced with a vague bitter hop baseline. The edges are salty, folding in towards the back end. Overall, a nice sour with some thickness to its body. The lime and salt work together well, with neither being over-represented. A good beach-y sour for a session with friends on a summer day. Aaand our related pic of the drink...
