I been very fortunate lately when it comes to good beers. My aunt just moved to whiting nj. The closest brewery to her is Rinn duin. It made the top 16 breweries in nj. Their blood orange jalapeño ipa is phenomenal. Unfortunately no growler allowed because it's limited supply. Got their red instead in the growler. Next was icarus brewery in lakewood. They had one that is my favorite flight taste in any brewery I have ever been to. I got a pic but this site makes it hard to post from my mobile. It is made with kahlua soaked toasted coconut, cinnamon, and vanilla. They needed a special setup just to pour that one. And I will put this up against any beer from tree house, hill farmstead, cycle...or any other brewery. Then the guy at Rinn duin mentioned he was at carton and had a cream ale made with miso. And being it's the closest place to my sisters house...I had to try that. Drinking that one now. It's called shinshu. Not as good as I hoped when he described it but still extremely good. Very light for a 9% beer. No alcohol taste and only a light creamy taste but a very heavy mouthfeel despite being light in color and tastes. All I can think is. It's about damn time that I get some good stuff after reading about everyone else talking about them. And honestly, maybe these don't rate as high on ratebeer.com but to me...I like them just as much as what I am hoping the big ones like pliney ect. taste like
Opened my pint of Brand New Eyes by Birds Fly South today, very tasty saison. Beer connoisseurs, explain: bottle says " we bottle condition for one month with brettonomyces"....what is this? The next part of that sentence is, "and wine yeast." Obviously I know what that means ..it DOES have an interesting mouthfeel that reminds me of a dry red wine, I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first but on the second glass now and it is growing on me.
Brettanomyces is wild yeast that gives farmhouse ales/saisons, lambics and gueuzes the characteristic funky/barnyard and/or clove-like flavors they often have. It also usually produces a highly carbonated and effervescent beer. Its use in beer originates in Belgium.
Drinking Double Dry Hopped Small Green Everything by Other Half -- a session IPA with a dank but mild "green" hop bitterness and crisp dry finish. 4.8% ABV
Before that I was drinking French Vanilla Hornswoggler, a milk stout by The Veil Brewing Company out of Richmond, Virginia. Tons of dark semisweet chocolate, roasted malts, espresso, cocoa powder, vanilla wafers and hazelnut flavors with a smooth, creamy, somewhat viscous mouthfeel. 7% ABV
Moving on to Double Dry Hopped Hop Showers from Other Half. This is an IPA brewed with Citra and Amarillo hops, coming in at 7.4% ABV. Lots of juicy grapefruit, candied citrus, dank marijuana and a green earthiness. Pretty awesome stuff!
Now drinking another beer from The Veil Brewing Co., this is SITDWN, a 6% ABV IPA. This is a very subdued, easy drinking IPA with a mild tropical citrus presence coupled with some green earthy hop flavors. Highly drinkable, and very soft and smooth.
Well, it's been ten days and I'm finally ready to hit the bottle again. No new reviews tonight though, just finishing up the last two Sumatra Mountain Brown brews I have left. But, let's see if I can't find another hottie to post for it anyway...
Hot damn! You were like, within easy driving distance of me! There's some great selections in Brick/Pt Pleasant. Wine World on Rt. 88 (near 7-11 and Arrowhead) is one of them, Buy-Rite on the corner of Bridge/88 is the other. (I mean, there's a Joe Canal's that has a decent selection, but these other two really pride themselves in extensive micro-brews.)
Gotta go to the brewery to get it, or know somebody who has access to it. One good thing (perhaps the only good thing) I can say about Facebook is that it has made beers available to me that I would otherwise not have access to.
That reminds me! Beer Advocate has a whole trading thing, too! ( https://www.beeradvocate.com/trading/ ) I should really try my hand at doing that. I'm sure I can find stuff others can't! Of course, I have no diea how those trades work or what it's like to send beer through the mail.
Well, fill a box and meet me somewhere, damnit! Also... I ran out of my Sumatra beers and only have a friends leftover Red Stripes. So, naturally, I poured some Apple Pie moonshine in a glass, then filled the rest with a Red Stripe. Not bad!
And now I'm almost done with my second glass of Red Apple Beershine. (Or whatevrthefuck you'd call it) Ok. maybe half done. Either way.. .my Apple Pie moonshine is now empty and gone. I think I need to buy some tequila.
