As of yet, I'm undecided. The options seem to be four. -Walk. -Bike. -Car caravan. -By any means necessary(i.e. hitchiking, bus, etc) Cars or feet seem most likely. Each has benefits and drawbacks and I think a lot depends on how many and who come with us at first.
Don't know. I'd like to, though. I definately think the areas near the US are likely - Canada, Mexico, Central and South America. And as far further regions, I want very much to travel there but we'll see what happens.
i would actually think walking for some distance would be good, then take a bus once in a while. i don't think anyone will really see us in caravans unless they're painted.
I like the idea of walking, it just seems more right given the overall nature of the Journey. However there are problems with walking...if there are people who physically can't, I don't want to deny them just because of that. It also presents us with the issues of dealing with weather. Personally I'm not concerned and think we could manage well enough, but it may present problems. Last among what I'll say here is where we'll be staying. I urge people to have some money saved for this, but I certainly dont' want to waste it immediately on hotels every time there's a rainy or chill night. There may not always be a place a possibly large group of hippies can just crash. Whereas with a car or camper or ten, we have more possibilities.
I think the best bet would be to get really high quality tents and other camping eqipment and head south so cold weather wouldn't really be a problem. Eventually getting to mexico/south america would be really cool
wow, awesome idea! i don't know where i'll be in five years, but keep in touch and keep us all posted!! I may be interested- Xbloodynailpolishx@Yahoo.com
Nomatter how we travel I intend to have camping gear, and good gear at that. I'm not a fan of the heat, but I'll likely be alone in that preference so heading south for long tracts of time isn't out of the question at all. As far as Mexico/South America goes. I don't see a problem with it...I'd like to travel the entire world, and there are beatiful places in those areas I would like to see.
u know what? message me privately or e-mail me, I'll give u my phone number, and if you're in my area, I'll help you out.
Well... This is really funny because my girlfriend and I have had the exact same plan brewing up for a little while. Now we not met yet, but once we do in person, we plan on going around the world and playing our music together for free. And the best part? She lives in PA! So it'll make it even easier if we could go along with you! What do you think? This will be in 2012 so I'll be 22 and she'll be 19-20...
So here we are, a year closer....the Journey looms larger, and we need it more than ever before. We need it bady. The entire world feels like we're looking over our shoulder.
Hey there everyone, just stumbled upon this thread. Thought I should make everyone aware of 2012: The American Gypsy Caravan we are a forming group with a similar intention to creat a journey across america providing food enterainment medical and dental services. I have started planning with a group of good people. We have a myspace page and a tribe.net page for those against the fox corp. please check it out. I have a system for purchasing horses. a route, and a pool of ideas on how to make this the most beautiful living art possible. Love you guys for tapping in on the same level. Check us out and tell everyone and anyone that it is on. http://groups.myspace.com/2012caravan http://tribes.tribe.net/2012caravan
Hey everyone, I know this thread has been quiet the last month or so, but the Journey has been rolling along. I've written a bit more about it on the myspace I have set up for it (contact me for a link), but the biggest development is a new Bulletin board I set up for it. No, it's NOT competition for this site. It's just a specific board to talk about and organize the Journey. I'm linking it EDIT. (If this is somehow against the rules, let me know and I'll kill the link) It's a free sign up, and we're concentrating mostly on putting our heads together about how to make this work, and setting up local organizations/groups for it.
I know I'm kind of new here but I'm definitely interested, and may I say what a good idea. The idea about visiting the Mayan and Aztec ruins sounds awesome. I speak fluent Spanish, German, and Japanese if that helps also.
