So, it's a good thing to be afraid of some entity all the time, worrying that you might piss it off somehow and it destroys you? Not the kind of life I would want. Wouldn't it be a better entity if it could find a way to teach decent values without force, threat, coercion and murder? So far as the supposed Jesus being nailed to a cross, that was supposedly done by the Roman government as they considered what he was doing was creating a cult and against what that government deemed the population was supposed to believe in. Governments use the same tools of force, threat, coercion and murder to keep their slaves in line also. I assume the fires you refer to are in regards to the christian conccept of hell. Being a christian creation, it not having been regarded prior to the advent of christianity, only serves to support my conclusions that the christian religion is nothing more than a tool to oppress mankind.
No, you misunderstand me. When Moses came down from somewhere, he found that his followers had made an image of something out of molten metal of some kind, he responded by pouring the same molten metal down the offenders' throats. And I'm with you on this analysis of the biblical god. Souped-up version of the male ego, obviously.
On Moses the God he followed was smoke by day and fire at night . Some say it was a volcano , others a U.F.O. When he came down off the mountain some say he had the quabala . He saw his people making that golden calf and said these people are not reddy for this , so he came back with the 10 commandments . Different people interept the word of God to fit what they want . Many churchs use fear to control people . desert rat
It takes all kinds. Be it shit piss shit or blood that is spilled, the earth does not recoil in horror. Gustus is taste. There is no accounting for taste. How did I overcome disgust, I abandoned it as misapprehension. The truth sets us free. The op believes that mans devotion to good cause is un-natural and yet in the same turn rages against belief in super-natural. Reality is not in contention with itself. It is a distorted perspective that sees un-natural/supernatural causes instead of real cause.
To the o.p. of this thread , you might also post this on inter faith http://www.interfaith.org/forum/ Like this forum , member ship is free , there open minded , and there from all kind of belief systems . desert rat
NG, Oh, I apologize for saying Moses made followers drink liquid gold. I stand corrected. The gold was remelted, ground to a powder and put into the water. Now, what do you think of the murder and rape in the name of the Lord, or are you just a troll who saw an opening, but really don't have an opinion one way or another on the topic?
On Moses , he was on mt. Sini ( not sure how to spell it ) talking to God that appered as a burning bush . God wrote something on stone tablets , some say it was the qablaah http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qabalah . When Moses saw his people partying and making that golden calf he broke the tablets , and then got the ten commandents . Some think this is when it chanced from the age of tarus ( a bull) to the age of ares ( a ram ) When Jesus came it was the age of pices ( fish ) . That is what is written in the King James Bible any way , as to if there was a Moses , Jesus , or many of the people in the Bible who knows . The people over there on inter faith are smart , they can answer some of your questions if you ask them nicely . desert rat
Whether or not the person of Moses existed is not so important as why contemporary christians regard his activities as acceptable.
Desert-rat, you left out the part about Moses making the people drink the powdered gold. Why was that done?
Do they? Moses allowed you to divorce because of hardness of heart but from the beginning it was not so.
Well, if they deem it unacceptable, why would they be part of something which has atrocities built into its foundation?
Moses was mad at the people for making that golden calf and having a party . What makes me mad about the story told in the Bible is that his brother was part of it and he does nothing to him . From what I remember from the story is that he makes them drink molten gold ( real hot) After all this they hang out in the desert for 40 years , but they did get to eat mana . desert rat
It's sort of like how the Ku Klux Klan was acceptable if you lived in Alabama in the fifties. But the more time that passes, we see it for what it was; it was simply atrocious.
What are toys for if not to play with? One toy may be dropped for another. You're giving toys a bad name here.
Of course I know which Lord you are referring to, obviously you missed the point of the statement. (damn, need that "whole point went sailing over your head, again" smilie) What I disagree with is the PRESENTATION of the subject matter and the very narrow and myopic viewpoint expressed. That is directly controlled by the poster, so my disagreements or contentions are aptly placed. I'm not defending Christianity in case you yahoos haven't noticed, I'm taking issue with the ludicrous assumptions and conclusions of the OP. It is possible to take issue with the manner in which a topic is presented and discussed without taking issue with or a stand on the topic itself. Too bad not very many people on this forum comprehend that.
By the way, how dense must you be to be put off by presentation when the thread's title is: The Horrors of Christianity. You really must learn to be aware of your surroundings. What did you think you were going to hear?
