I have a long week coming up. I'm already pissed off about the state of society most days, but right now I say fuck it. Now is a time to celebrate the gifts of booze and hookers.

The narrator asked (paraphrase): What are your politics? Left Centre Right?
I answered: Centre. But the narrator didn't talk about that.
Isn't it the case that many political groups/people are chasing the centre ground? Isn't there such a thing as 'third way politics'?

So, I say this theory is flawed.

There is supposed to be a "third way" politics but I don't see much of it around. It was a somewhat fashionable buzz word back in the late 90's,early 2000's maybe? Anyone is entitled to describe themselves as "centre" or even "centre-left" but I think there really are a lot of issues that aren't being explored or given attention to in mainstream media.I think we need a new politics and not just one that we have been handed down due to the historical circumstances that have given rise to "left","right" or "centre",as Pressed rat's video suggests.

Pressed_Rat's video mentions 'centre' but then totally ignores that option and decides to focus on a rather one dimensional (or is that two dimensional?) caricature of American politics.
There might be an argument that American politics has drifted back into a form of the HD.

You've ignored the option/possibility yourself: 'Anyone is entitled to describe themselves as "centre" or even "centre-left" but I think there really are a lot of issues that aren't being explored or given attention to in mainstream media.' Do you notice how you acknowledged it then totally ignore it?

Perhaps 'third way' was fashionable and a buzz word back then - but I would suggest it is now mainstream. I would suggest the newish buzz words are: rush for the centre ground.

If you are not happy with Left Right Centre and all variations in-between...what do you want?
I do appreciate that it's just more labels - but I would say a high proportion of governments and people make choices and the political labels are attached with hindsight.

"Left" and "Right","Democrat" and "Republican","Labour" and "Conservative" are just set up to keep people divided and squabbling. They offer an illusion of freedom and democracy. The political debate is all just too centred around economics for my liking.I want to see a discussion about real good quality of life for people, which is not just about how much material product you can create or own.I want a discussion and practice of living skills that fosters love of peace and knowledge.I want someone to really stand up for the environment,as well as challenging the corporations and bankers.I don't see anyone from mainstream politics doing this. You can call me a naive idealist if you like -but that's what I believe.Unfortunately I can't make much of a practical contribution myself due to illness.

I think I'd be cynical about life if I lived in the US - being constantly bombarded by Conservatives and Liberals at it 24/7.
How many times somebody has called something I have said 'liberal' here is beyond a joke.
I'd be rich if I received a pound every time.

Every now and again it's a good idea to look around and see what is going on in the world. For instance something new (to me) came into my vision recently:

    http://blogs.fco.gov.uk/digitaldiplomacy/

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa9LqheSbaw"]re:publica 2012 - Digital Diplomacy - Reinventing foreign policy? - YouTube

Lets make a pact: If anybody (including PR and Deviate) says something we say is 'liberal' , lets tell them to STFU :D Lets tell them to keep their petty political prejudices to themselves. Lets rise above it all and move frwd into a bright new future.

I think there are many discussions going on, including on a governmental level, that goes beyond the norm...

Yes I must admit there are some good discussions going on,and I know people have to work within the prescribed political framework. Also I know economics is very important given the system we live in.I just wish politics could take it to another level occasionally and inspire people to something greater and more inclusive on an existential level,if you know what I mean.

I do know what you mean :)

I would say, though: I just wish politics/the media could take it to another level more often and inspire more people to something greater and more inclusive more often and on a more existential level.

This goes back to rat's argument that politics and the media are controlled by the elite. So here we are, back at ground zero.
