If you don't like any new music out there, why not pick up an instrument and try and make your own. It's not rocket science.I think with the internet we are seeing the democratisation of music.Music is freedom, music is joy.I think the age of bloated overindulged rockstars is reaching it's twilight eve.And that could be a nice place for those who are there, but I've heard from those that have been there that the music business can be a shitty place at times. There will probably never be another Beatles or Led Zeppelin, but that's okay in my opinion.Everything changes, and change can be good.It would be nice to see more people integrate creativity into their lives if they want to,and get away from being passive consumers.
actually, i do make my own music. i play guitar harmonica and piano. dont assume that because we are talking about how todays music blows that we dont make our own music...lol
A week ago, I was in Madison Sq Garden for the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival. It was a long concert with lots of acts. Looks like Gary Clark, Jr., is the new rising star. Also, Quinn Sullivan, now age 14, has gotten so good that it would be hard to tell him apart from his mentor, Buddy Guy. BTW, the performance that I liked the best really surprised me. It was John Mayer. The song was Queen of California and he was really awesome. His next song was the Beatles "Don't Let Me Down" performed with Keith Urban and it was really good, too.
Well said. That's a big part of what I do now. I spent a lot more time playing my mandolin, often with my guitar-playing friends, than I do listening to commercial music. There isn't a single good radio station in Boston now, IMHO.
I actually am amazed by how much better the music I find nowadays is compared with what I came across in my youth. Metamusic. I make over half my income musically. I'll never turn back. Interesting things to look up, if you don't believe me: Dubfx, Reggie Watts, Alabama Shakes, Fuck Buttons, Joey Bada$$, Twin Shadow, Jenny Hval, Amon Tobin, The Weeknd, Emika, KEN mode, Andrew Bird, Andy McKee, Ronald Jenkees, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Tom Waits, The Knife, Die Antwoord, Bonobo...the list goes on and on.
There's a lot of great music out there today in pretty much every genre, even mainstream pop. The problem is that there's a lot of shit out there that you have to dig through to get to the good stuff.
Hey man I'm not a fan of britney spears but her older music actually isn't bad. My mom used to love britney spears.
It's the dumbing down of culture. They want to keep us all passive and controlled. Destroy music and you destroyed the one thing that mill motivate people to make change
Silly lyrics have always been, but there is something especially shapeless and sterile about popular music these days, I think.
it has the word corporate written all over it, bunch of untalened swine who just want money. half of them prolly dont even know how to tune a guitar. a retarded monkey could make better music.
