One of my favorite Motown acts weren't typical of the breed - The Isley Brothers were an esthablished name before they joined the label, and were successful after they left it. And I think they employed a certain Jimi Hendrix in the backing band at one time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yiOqTG9Nno&feature=related"]YouTube- Isley Brothers - This Old Heart Of Mine
The Motown house band was also integrated. They called the 3 man guitar section the Oreo Cookie Guitar section because there was a black man on each end and a white man in the middle. Peace Out, Rev J

Here are a couple of songs that I believe were the start of the hippie movement. There are probably more than these: but these are the ones that I remember . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4KzGKnuUuc"]YouTube- Hedgehoppers Anonymous - It's Good News Week https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntLsElbW9Xo"]YouTube- Barry McGuire - Eve of Destruction PAX
Omg ... we could go on and on with these great old songs. Myself, I was fanatically in love with Ricky Nelson when I was 12 years old ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLkCWT2neuI"]Ricky Nelson

Far too young to remember that far back of course but an early example of Brit psychedelia/hippie [1967] that you dont seem to hear much nowadays - suprisingly in my view...it's weathered the years well. I'm sure I read somewhere that the band hated this song, they were primarily a blues band and the record label made them record it in order to jump on the zeitgeist [so to speak...]. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbS2KmEecTo"]YouTube - Simon Dupree - Kites
