There are reasons Trump is supported by Dictators, but not Allies. Trump supporters need to step outside our national bubble and look at where the world is heading. Trump is mentally unfit to handle the domestic and foreign needs of the country. He is a sick man. Talking about Biden is a waste of time. He is a normal man with all the weaknesses therein.

Trump and his ass-kissers are obsessed with emails, aren't they? Comey made much ado about nothing or none of us would have ever had to deal with one second of Trumpism, for it would have been DOA in 2016.

Trump is Jim Jones. His loyal followers have been taking sips of the kool-aid for four plus years. That's how they've made it to this point. If he asked them to drink up and gave them each a Big Gulp-full, they would happily comply, because he can do no wrong and is all-knowing and all-perfect. Then, with his followers dying all around him, he could put a gun to his temple, as Jones did, and the world could begin the long, difficult road back to normalcy.

And ALL the world will be singing...

The scariest thing about the whole Trump story is that we live in a country where a person this dangerous, this ignorant, this incompetent, this psychologically damaged even has a chance of reelection. What is wrong with these people? How did we ever get to this point? I thought Nixon, then Reagan, then GWB were are low as we could possibly go, but Trump trumps all...by far... How did we go from Obama to this? Where were these racist hater dangerous trailer trash morons hiding? I guess there are many rocks they climbed out from under. Trump is the worst human being in modern, if not all of American history. His followers are the lowest of the low. Can this all be blamed on our educational system? What went so terribly wrong?

There are those who think Obama Sucked, he bought the presidency, renewed the patriot act, oversaw fisa warrants ,wiretapped MILLIONS of Americans . he was NO PATRIOT

Obama admin spent $36M on lawsuits to keep info secret

set records for outright denial of access to files, refusing to quickly consider requests
described as especially newsworthy, and forcing people to pay for records who had asked the
government to waive search and copy fees.

Any chance at all that it's your opinion of anyone who disagrees with you that's the actual problem with the country?

This isn't about disagreement, it's about basic humanity. I have had Republican friends all my life. One of my brothers is now a Trump supporter. He used to be a human Republican. We often had great debates and discussions. He's now a cult follower incapable of rational thought.

Yes, and, what is wrong about the other choices on offer, that Trump still retains this massive support. ?

Are Trump supporters afraid of anything tangible, anything threatening about the Democratic ticket ?

Could this many people be so so wrong?

I form my opinions on the basis of the best evidence I can find, reason, experience, multiple sources of information, and yes, intuition. In the last analysis, it's a judgment call, but an informed one. I've given my reasons ad nauseum for arriving at pretty much the same conclusion as Tullian about Trump. There's of course a chance we could be wrong and there's a chance this thing we call reality could all be some computer simulation. But doesn't the argument cut both ways? I've noticed that Trump fans like yourself are long on praise of your leader but short on facts and logic.

Sure they could. They've always been a stable minority, not to be confused by the facts. In a world of fallible humans and binary choices, we have to be relativists. Trump is the "Devil We Know", and he's sufficiently bad that I'll take my chances with the one I don't know.

I grew up in a conservative Republican family (it was like being raised by Fox), in a conservative Republican neighborhood in a conservative Republican state, and most of my friends are Trump supporting Republicans, so I think I have some understanding of Republicans. These folks are afraid of several tangible things they associate with Democrats.
    1. Freeloaders and redistributive tax policies. My parents were dirt poor and clawed their way up to middle class status. They lived in fear that somebody would take away what they worked hard for and give it to undeserving free riders.
    2. Immigrants and Open Borders. They fear a flood of immigration to this country, meaning competition for the folks who were here first and a threat to the established American way of life.
    3. Identity Politics. They are concerned about the focus on sub-groups and the heightened sense of grievance accompanying "consciousness raising" measures pushed by progressives.
    4. Government Spending. When Bernie and Elizabeth talk about trillion dollar programs for this or that worthy cause, my friends clutch their wallets.
    5. Elites. They resent fancy pants "experts" and intellectuals with degrees telling them what to do, cuz what do they know?
    6. Lack of Patriotism. Bring the boys home, put the Chinese and foreigners in their place with trade wars.
    7. Environmentalism. Climate change is a hoax. Environmentalists want to regulate us to death with their job-killing anti-pollution laws.
    8. Safety and the Economy. We need to reopen the economy, even if it costs human lives.
    9. Masks and gun laws. This is the land of the free. We should have the right to go maskless in a pandemic if we want and take our AR-15's with us wherever we want.
    10. Choice vs. Life of the Unborn. Freedom has limits. We need to prohibit abortion and put judges on the courts who will protect the rights of the unborn.
    11. Playing Fast and Loose with the Constitution. We need judges on the courts who honor the Constitution the way it was written and the original intent of the framers.
    12. Lawlessness. We need "law and order', and tough law enforcement to put down demonstrators, rioters, looters and criminals who are creating havoc in our cities.

There may be other specific issues, like the ones brought up in the debate last night, but these seem to be the basic ones motivating my friends, and Trump is supposed to be the tough, "no holds barred" leader they think is defending those values. Maybe these can serve as talking points in considering the merits and demerits of the presidential candidates and the parties. I'll try to explain why I don't think they hold water, and why I voted for Biden.

(this type of folk, in general) They're also petrified of black people, trans people and gay people Being totally different and totally fine with it just doesn't compute in their white (usually Christian) lifetime of always thought-controlled brains, so it is scary and dangerous and must be discouraged...strongly.

Me on the other hand...if everyone in my environment was white, Christian, straight, etc., it would be a world I wouldn't want to be a part of. The Ultimate Nightmare. I could think of nothing worse, yet that is the world Trumpers dream of. (fyi, I am white, straight, and agnostic. I can't help it, diversity is what makes life worth living)

The latest Borat is hysterical. Rudy can claim anything, but he was...straightening...no question, and was totally fooled. He was convinced he was going to get laid. Dumbshit vampire.

    1. They are already taxed more than the rich.
    2. The old fear of immigrants, of which most of us are.
    3. Strict Democracy...the majority rule.
    4. Taxes again.
    5. The war on science and the intellect.
    6. Patriotism, the last refuge of scoundrels.
    7. Let the rivers burn.....just not by me.
    8. Screw those seat belts.
    9. Two year old mentality....I can do anything I want.
    10. Stack the courts, we don't want impartial judges.
    11. As in slavery is fine.
    12. One word...fascism.

CNN fact checker Daniel Dale said that in the final debate Trump was better behaved but lied more. It's sad that Trump lies so much we need to turn to fact checkers to sort it all out.

In eight swing states Biden is leading in Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Arizona and Wisconsin, trails Trump in Ohio and there's a virtual tie in Iowa. With ten days until the election it looks solid for Biden but again I'll believe it when it happens.

Has anyone else here seen the new Borat movie? It is excellent. FAR funnier than the first. It's free on Amazon Prime and it needs to be seen ASAP.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat Sequel Arrives in a Different America—and Works Better Now

Cohen must know from experience that he’s playing with fire. So why does he again stick his hand right in it, 14 years later? Now isn’t just the right time for a Borat sequel; it may be the only time. In 2006 Cohen’s skewering of Kazakhstan as an economically and socially backwards country seemed like a cheap shot. But now America is itself a country facing backwards, the kind of democratically challenged nation we used to look down upon with pity. That reality isn’t lost on Cohen, and it shouldn’t be lost on us, either. If Borat Subsequent Moviefilm makes you laugh, what does your laughter say about you? My laughter told me—reminded me—how angry I am. As 2020 rounds to a close, I have zero sympathy for white Americans who are happy to show kindness to a stranger—just as long as that stranger, too, is white. I have zero tolerance for a presidential lackey who’d do anything he could to derail an election. And I have zero use for racist thugs whose greatest fear is that their guns will be taken away from them. If Sacha Baron Cohen gets you singing along joyfully to a phony racist, anti-journalist, anti-science anthem, then the joke is on you. And it ought to be.
