i know the feeling, im a chronic sufferer of insomnia, cant get to sleep a lot of nights, so im up quite late, but it was a good read, made me think, one thing i did know about getting dreads (other than wax was most likely a bad idea) was you dont get it done in a salon,

I did however get my girlfriends sister to do the backcombing, she is a professional hairstylist, thought it might be interesting for her to get to try it, not a very common request in ireland, so i payed her 50 euro for the 9 hours work she spent doing my hair.

I thought it was just fair, regardless of what she did for a living

    yea its fair

i met a nurse that used to be a hair stylist
and shes like wow i love your dreads, ya know why, cause theyre so real and natural.
then she goes on to say" i used to be a hairstylest and we made alot of dreads but always felt so bad because we messed every one of them up, no hairstylest could ever do as good a job as nature can, but it was our job, so we did it just the way we were told to, which was the way that brought inthe most money and they just never came out looking right.

ofcourse she never said that till she switched carrerrs
but i thouight it was so amazing to hear a hairdresser admit that salons just cant do dreads right.

oh definetly, i agree with you on that, salons cant do them, people go to salons, especially women to come out with great looking hair, not horrible looking hair that is going to take months to look good, they wouldnt make any money that way. the reason i went to her was because i knew she would care about how my hair was after and would be more careful with the backcombing. she is very happy with how it is turning out though and said she enjoyed doing it

    i put it this way
salonbs love to keep u slaves to the salon\
dreads mean u never need another salon in your life

    so typical salon dreading experience
day 1, charge as much as they possibly can, just in case u do somehow end up with dreads..they retard the process with waxes gells and crap
    then schedule bi weekly retightenings
and say dont wash fior up to 6 months.
1st tightening..more wax. lil twisting , another couple hundred bucks
by 2 months you feel so dirty so caked in wax so disgusted by the horrible mess u decide dreads are not for u u rush back to the salon to get cut and your once again theyre slave
if u do somehow find out good info after the 1st few visuts and do end up with real dreads, at least they got over 1000 bucks from ya byu then

true, however thanks to dreads i really dont need a hair cut again, not that i got it cut much before, in four years i think ive had 2 maybe 3 hair cuts, stupidly kept going back to a blade 3 back and sides, then regretting it and growing it out again

been so long since i cut mine and think i only had 3 maybe 4 professionsl cuts in my life everyutime ppl start talking bout numbers and stuff in relation to haircuts i have no clue what they mean.

is that when they use clippers with lile a spacver guard thingy to set the length so 3 is a particular size spacer guard thingy?
(only know of them from using clippers to cut dogs hair)

its the electric razor thing, with the third blade on it, its the shortest haircut your allowed to get in most traditional schools here, plus its pretty tidy hair cut, my parents made me get it any time i "needed" my hair cut before i was old enough to make my own decisions

Exactly ten years ago I was living in Belfast and got to spend st. paddy's day there. Yes, there were tons of drunks, but it was an absolute blast. Everyone was in great spirits and as friendly as anything. A bit tooooo far for a road trip this year. ;)

yeah its nice if your visiting, but its become less about the day and more about the "oh my god its paddys day we have to get totally wasted" said in a posh voice or "jaysus lads its bleeding paddys day were gonna get wasted" said in a knacker voice, of course i have edited out a lot of swearing from the second one

ah but it means its the time for the outdoor growing season :) best thing about paddys day. Every irish hip forumer seems to be from dublin...we need some more corkonians haha.

and its only one day a year (ok not really) that the streets are packed full of drunkards so its not that bad.
