Actually pants would make quite a funky dreadhat, with those two holes for cool bunches :p

Obviously the coolness may be cancelled out by the fact you'd have pants on your head....hmmm :p
But oh oh and and and like if you had really looong dreads like soaringeagle you could wear lonh-johns on your head and have long floppy bunches!
Ok I've strayed way too far into the realms of sillyness now *runs*

i ended up grabbing a package of those really huge headband/elastics .... oh, and rinsed my hair out twice over the weekend without using soap, and that weird smell of i was complaining of is disappearing.... DEFINATELY leftovers from my soap which i was sooo in love with and now not so much.... damn!

i mean they're not huge as in WIDE.... i think you know what i mean :)

oh u musta snuck in when i wasnt looking..lol
    welcome nz tripper
]ya from new zealand? is that what the nz is?

    welcome
ya know..thasts pretty much the standard intro round here..hi..im'... i started mine with wax unfortunately

with sooooo many stating i started mine with wax unfortunately, why isnt the word getting out thsatthey shouldnt start them that way.
makes me wonder how 95% of the ppl who come here concider it a mistake that most of them made, but why are so many still making it
it seems if u talk to 5 dreadies 4 woulda started with wax 3 woulda thought it was a mistake and 1 woukds still be a waxy mess..
is it justthst ppl arent being vocal enough?
arentr being helpful enough to newbies wanting dreasds?
i see some may look at kids and think they only want em for fashion so why bother helping them get good indfo..but i just dunno
i dont understand how so many are not getting it

well i know some ppl comre from areass where there just arent many dreads..or like i hear in the philipines most are crochetted in salons
maybe thye entire cultures being currupted by these promices of instant mature dreads if you just buy em?

could the whole dread culture be suffering?

i diont understand..lol i come from a different cwhere most dreads are born from months in the wilderness or on the road
where sprituality still has its place in the culture (although not strickly defined as being rasta only or anything like that) a culture where if there was anything that helped the dresds drwasd it was playing in mud swimming in rivers just being natural and free.

today the cultures changed so much.. even synthetic dread extentions are concidered part of dread culture, salons pop up all over that catior to dreads
tons of dread specific products are everywhere.
what happened to the days when to wash your dreads you went to the stream, pounded a few leaves to a pulp and used that to wash your dreads?

now we have salons selling dreads like theyre meanningless hairstyles, they use all sorts of harmfull crap, even latex and glues, stuff that makes absolutely no sence if you think of dreads as a natural thing that just happens on theyre own, but no, that thouights wiped away, noone can even understand how dreads happen naturaly anymore
insteasd they think they cost between 200-700 and take hours and hours of work
i really wonder if we will ever see the day again when the majority of dreads come from medutation dedicatuion wandering through thye wildetness on vissionquests
i know in this modern society theres not as much room for such things
but it just makes me sad that the culture has slipped away to the piont that it now has a price tag.
get your dreads here..now just $70
no waitting no dedication, just hand over your wallet and you will be dready.

in rasta culture, dreads are a step away from babylon control
buying kits, going to salonds..this is paying into babylon control
i wonder.. does it still free you when yiou give up yoiur control to it?

    whoops
    i only meantto say hi

srry 5 am i go off on philosophical rants alot..lol
yikes make that 6 am..goodnight and welcome

but hey..if u have any thoughts on why ppl just arent getting the message that wax isnt good..or more specificly that dreads donr need to be "made" id love to hear em

    great to meet ya tripper

(please tell me u dont have an obsession with following old train tracks just to see where they go..knew a tripper that did that..would vannish for days following tracks..but one day was tripping too hard i guess and followed some tracks that had traffic on it and guess he forgot to get out of the way
    rip tripper
all ya trippers are a trip tho
i have knows quite a few
your the 1st from nz tho

Hi everyone! Im new! Can't wait to join the discussion about dreadlocks. I've had mine almost 4 years and feel as though I can offer a lot of pointers to people just starting out. Also I'm sure I still have much to learn as I feel everyone has the ability to learn new things if they keep their mind open.

yayyy god its good to have more ppl with at leasst a few years experience dreading
    yea pics plics pics plz
but also, plesse give a lil details on your experiences, mrethods used and so forth,
i started myine nearly 19 years ago and odviosly only was aware of natural dreads at the time and because the experiences was so wonderful asnd easy i do encourage others to at lesst concider it as an option.
but if u went a didfferent route would love to shasre yoir experinces both good and bad amnd learn from all you went through and what youd do different if u ever started over.

well lets see, I started them 46 months ago with the DHHQ kit after trying natural for about 5-6 months and not gettin a single knot. My hair was about 6 inches long. I sectioned them off with rubber bands and had a friend backcomb them. I waxed after every other washing for about 6 months when I ran out of DHHQ product and I didn't buy anymore because I'm a procrastinator. To get rid of loose hairs I used one of those dental floss threaders for braces which worked great. I then just started using some natural bar soap I found at a local health store... I dont know what it was but it had tea tree oil in it. After reading about Dr. Bronner's on another unnamed forum I bought some at a local store, peppermint. I used it for about 2 months but after a while I started noticing a really greasy residue that was being left behind. I quit using Bronner's (except for body wash, it makes a great body wash) and now I just use baking soda. I mix about 2 tablespoons of baking soda with a big glass of water, dump it on my head then scrub it in. Then I rinse with diluted ACV. Finally I put a drop or two of tea tree oil into a big glass of water, mix it up, and dump that on my head. As for negative experiences, the only problem I've faced is I forgot to take out a couple rubberbands and I ended up finding them about a year later in the forum of a terrible sticky goop. I had to cut those pieces out. If I could restart, I don't know that I would change anything, I just wouldn't use rubberbands and I wouldn't use Bronner's. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.

AHA!!! so, my jumping back and forth and reluctant dislike for dr. bronner's - which i was SO hoping was going to be GREAT - is reinforced again as a "body only" bar.... dammit! oooohhhhh, i LOVE scrubbing my scalp with a bar of soap, but GOD! i can't find one that doesn't end up leaving bits behind, and then my dreads start to smell kinda weird... and i have only had this set for like, 2 monthes!!! that is definatley NOT long enough to be smelling anything, that's for sure!
darn, darn, darn. but THANK YOU!

bar cant be diluted, use the liquid diluted to 12-1

if it leaves anything behind, its because of the water, not soap
and a simple way to solve that is add just a lil borax
