heey ya'll, been a stalker here for about a week now. seriously considering the natural way of making dreads -- all for the relaxed attitude about hair. just sit back and let it do it's thing. never really liked styling it any way [IMG]

i absolutely LOVE dreadlocks, such a beautiful style. nappy or clean cut, it's all good. personally, if you keep it clean and free of bugs it's sexy. 'cept mullets but that's another story.

i've got some questions before i set out on my LONG journey. lets hope I'm not beating a dead horse here...

    1) i have seasonal dandruff (this year was the worst) and I was wondering if dreadlocks would irritate that? what I've read on this forum is reassuring, plenty of natural solutions to flakey scalp, but would dreads irritate my scalp more then normal? even now i have a REAL bad time with itchies and am using a medicated ointment for that. is it safe to continue using this ointment with dreadlocks? also, how well has the rosemary and tea tree treatment worked out for you guys with bad scalps?

    2) this one is not that important, but I have real thick, wavy, whispy hair; anyone with this type of hair have a dreadlock story they'd like to share? [IMG] i know it'll dread eventually, but I'd just like to know what i'm dealing with first. don't wanna majorly screw up...

this last one is VERY VERY important... what type of dr. bronner's body wash would you recommend? [IMG]

anyway, thanks for reading (if you did) and i'm happy to be here. you may see me pop in a few times to get some advice and whatnot for my dreadies. ya'll give some great advice. any small pointers you'd like to give to an anxious newbie?

    peace~

    Hello!

I am on my second set... First was about 13 years ago (wow!), and this set is only a year old.

I am a mama to four and live in a suburb of Cleveland.

I'll try to post a photo... OK, this one was taken with one of my lovies in my arms! It's always hard to see them singly because my hair is dark...

    **sorry for the gigantic head!**

helloo guys, posted in hear occasionally but never posted a pic of my dreads. my friend just helped me dye a few so i thought i'd put a couple up :) also i've always been embarassed by how fluffy they are, even after over a year, but i've come to accept that's just how they want to be. i'll embrace the fluffiness.

tied up - there are bits of wool in there too, which aren't new. they're practically felting into my hair now.

    cheers guys:D

@dead_head90 - i bleached a few first (very carefully) and then used koolaid mixed with aloe vera gel (i guess you could use water) and cornflour, one packet per dread pretty much :p the colours came out so muted because the bleach didn't work too well on my hair, probably due to some left over henna from years ago. i put the dye in one afternoon, then wrapped each dread in clingfilm and left it in overnight - the longer you leave it the brighter koolaid comes out. and it smells so nice! :D fruity.

@spookytheferret - thank you! *hugs* it's not quite felt, when i realised some of the dreads weren't gonna work without some help i found left over wool from when i had wool dreads, wrapped it round and rubber banded the bottoms. in some places it's felting together, but a lot of em fall out all of the time and i have to re-tie constantly. the wool i used is called point five, from colinette.co.uk if you wanna have a looksie ^^ i may use a felting needle and bond it permanently into me hair i think.
