    Hi!...

I just got here a little too late (4-5 days). I re-did my dreadlocks 5 days ago (with wax :(). I had them about 3 years ago without wax and they locked up real nice (so I don't know why I used it this time.) but I had to cut due to lice and lack of knowledge on how to remove them. I'll have some pictures up of them soon. But for now I need to get this wax out. Luckily I haven't smothered them.

Anyone in the Peg wanna come help ;)

is your name pronounced like geordie? it's a cool name :) all you have to do is upload pics to your gallery and then insert the hyperlink into the post picture box (first click go advanced) I think you can also attach images from photobucket and so, not really sure.

plenty of hot water, that should do the trick, you wont get all of it out, but most of it you will :) good luck

just thought i'd post an update of my dreads, had them for almost 4 years now (their birthdays the first week of feb, my actual B'day too)

Pretty new here but been reading for a while, gatherin' up info for my dreads. they are 2 weeks today, but i wanted to put up a pic or two to kinda get some feedback.
There aren't exactly a lot of dreads around here (MAINE, us) so I have had almost no experience with them and just wanted to know if anyone had any tips for me. I think they look great, I get a lot of guff about them here but that's fine with me, just wondering if anyone has any tips for me.
Also wanted to say how great this forum is. Everyone gets on really well and it seems like a really fun place to come. I really enjoy it and you will def be hearing more from me soon, like it or not!! haha

I have a three year old daughter who is viciouse about her dreads for her I am doing the 'neglet' method, but her hai is so soft and fine, it worries me that I am going to hurt her little head when I seperate them. Then, MY hair, my hair does okay for about a week ' I am also trying the 'neglet method' but my dreadies are so (&%%%$#^%$*^*) hard to get to knot, how long did it take your guyses hair to knot up? How about any cheats? on it. How does back combing work? and what is the best way to treat them when your washing?

for a three year old, i would backcomb, just so she has something to go with, and it'll be a lot easier, since you'll be doing most of her maintenance. but that's just me. plus there will be less hair ripping. sitting still for the length of time it takes might be an issue though! use some saltwater to get the soft fine hair to stick a little more. or, if you aren't opposed to using a little product, get some dreadheadhq lock pepper. i only use it once in a while, and after a couple days i wash it out, but it's great for getting soft, fine hair to knot up.

i backcombed, and it looked like shit for a long time... but since i didn't know anyone with dreadies, i thought it looked the bomb! lol... i just passed 6 months WOOOHOOOO!!! here's a pic!

that was 2 weeks ago. i'll take more pics soon, 'cause i've put a little more shit in 'em (beads and stuff), but i just washed, and they always look like hell right after washing!

oh yeah, by the way, my name is isis, and i've been a dreadhead for 6 months, and i wouldn't do anything else. i'm a true knotty addict. there's no hope for me! lol.

    much love to all!

Hello, not really new to the forum just heading back :) I hit some rocky waters around October (when I actually did my dreads) and here I am with a head of dreads going on 4 months old. Starting to get to question time, and frustration time, but my patience will win and I'll be rockin dreads for life!

brother! check yer head for goodness sake...if you got de critters you definately will want to know sooner than later. I have heard of folks using syringes to inject their dreads with lice poison. however i have had lice more than once...back in my straight hair days and i gotta tell ya...if you don't get every last nit (egg sack) outta yer hair they will just keep coming back. if you have lice...you'll definately know after awhile...you can feel them partying on yer head...it will feel like your scalp is on fire especially behind your ears and at the nape of yer neck. also when you scratch your head look at your fingernails...do they look black under the tips?
    that's your blood....eeeeeeWWWWW!!!!

on the other hand...i think yer itchie cause you aren't washing your dreads often enough. the more often you wash them...the tighter they will become...you want to wash your locks....dirty/oily = dreads coming undone. i don't know if you have any crunchy health food stores in your area but try to get yourself a bottle of dr bronner's organic hemp castile soap (they have all different scents; peppermint, eucalyptus, almond etc.). this is great stuff, it cleans yer hair and leaves no residue....don't use any conditioners. if your locks are smelly/moldy smelling you can rinse them with diluted apple cider vinegar...than follow up with dr. bronner's.

dying your locks is fun...punky color really clings to locks because of their dryness...as the color fades and it's still kinda there...if you want to get the color out all the way...rub some nice oil into it and it will help take it out. kool-aid works great for temp hair dye fyi.

well that's it for this edition of "this old dread" tune in next week.... ; )

    love and light to you
    shanti!

i'm so happy you don't have lice. wheeeeeeeWWWWooooo...what a relief! another thing i do in the wintertime to help with dandruff is i rub my scalp with oil (in the problem areas) before i wash my locks. you can use a q-tip dipped in oil to work the dandruff off your scalp. i've done this for other dready kids...cuz their dandruff was bordering on cradle cap from lack of attention.

cradle cap? whats that? I did have a problem for a while where my scalp was so dry that it was actually cracking. kinda like if you have chapped lips they crack. like that. it was gross i was bleeding and stuff, i was afraid i had to cut my hair, but i just used some conditioner, it was bad for the dreads but my scalp was all better.

ill post some more pictures soon.

    Joe
