Hey y'all I am new here and wanted to say hello. I live in Colorado and I have had my locks for about 2 months now and it has been a love / hate relationship for the most part. Seems to be more love though every day :). I am going to work on some photos, I would really love some feedback. My locks seem to be knotting up from the tips up to the roots which I think is backwards ?
Lookin forward to meetin some fellow dreadies
    peace & blessings

hi, welcome to the forums. it's not abnormal to have your locks lock from the tip upward. it happens to alot of people. pictures would be awesome.

i think for most people, the roots are the part that lock up last. show us some pictures, we'll help you out! :)

    Heya
I've started my natural/neglect journey, more or less by accident, but i'm 2ish months into it.
    Originally i bought that knottyboy kit, and was going to assemble a pontoon of mates to tangle, tease, backcomb and what not;
At the time, i was meant to be going to Darwin, and i wanted my locks to represent a new change etc.

Well, silly me, i never ended up going to Darwin, so i put my locks on indefinite hiatus.

Somehow, a few weeks later, they just started forming!

Now, i'm going with the flow, and just rubbing my beanie, which is wool into my scalp, and they're maturing like wildfire.

    So yeah, pretty crazy,
I'm James by the way ;]

    Hello everybody!

    I am a musician/painter from Ontario Canada.
    My name is Kyle.
My dreads are almost 3 years and I have been through hell and back but I love them.

I have been having issues posting pictures, hopefully they will be up soon.

There is alot of interesting info on here about maintenance and whatnot that has been extremely helpful.

Does anyone have any tips on keeping my locks from drying out? I have used aloe vera gel all natural no chemicals or anything but it doesn't work too well. The actual plant mashed up with water seems to work a bit too.

I have tons of frizz that never goes away even If I latch hook the hairs, as soon as they get wet I have loose hairs everywhere. Anyway this is probably not the spot to ask this question.

    keep on groovin'

Wandering blues, I really have a tough time figuring out where everything is on here. Anyhow lately I have been tempted to cut off my dreads because they are taking soo long to dry and I know once the winter comes it will be evern worse. I have had them for almost 4 years maybe, I can't quite remember but I think typing about this is helping me not cut them off. Please somebody just tell me not to cut them off.

cutting them off would be a dumb idea IMHO. :) to get mine dry I give them a good squeeze in the shower then rub em down with a dry towel. Then i get a new towel wrap as much as a can up in there and leave it on my head for at least an hour. At this point they will stop dripping down your back (brrrrrrr I HATE THAT) It only takes 2-3 hours after that to air dry. hope that helps

:O dont cut them, that would be silly.
when i wash mine, i wrap them in a towel for 15 mins or so, that way they dont drip on me, then i forget about them and let them air dry or if its chilly, i put a wool tam on for a bit. please dont cut them off :(

I don't know why but I get these cravings to cut them off from time to time, the other day I was really close. I definetly think I need to keep them forever. If anyone ever uses msn messenger or anything like that feel free to contact me HiLLikus@Hotmail.com I wouldn't mind talking to some new friendly people.

    Anyway I am talking crazy.

i know what you mean actually. ive felt that urge a few times too. im just randomly impulsive, impatient and have a 5 second attention span though. i went with it last year and cut off my long, fat dreads. it was really nice for a while but now i wish i still had them. they would be so long and awesome..
