Aww, thanks chickies! You guys are just too cool.

And Caelynn, I'm really diggin' your dreads, for some reason.. How the hell did you get them looking so snazzy, this early-on? Mine looked like a complete rat's nest for the first month or so... Are you using wax, or something?

thanks :) yes there was wax used, right after backcombing. also we used lock peppa to help with the backcombing. and it probably helped that i went a month before without using conditioner... and that my hair was dry from bleaching/dying damage.

Hey dreaded friends! I am new here, but not so new to having knotted hair.

I am now on my 3rd set, going to try my hardest and most patience to go natural.

My first set was backcombed and waxed...I know I know, bad bad wax.
It as pure evil for sure, my dreads were looking pretty rad after about 2 years but stunkand I could see the wax I used in the beginning through my babies. I did stop using it after a mth, but still.

Then I got pregnant, and about 7mths in, I dont know waht came over me, I started cutting, then crying, then cutting some more... OY I soooooo regret that haircut. It literally drained something outta me, my dreadies were a part of me, and I murdered then.

Well then after I had my baby I paid and INSANE, amt to have some stupid extension dreads put in, NOW I gre to love em, but they were all glued on and it was not real, ya know... SO after 3mths of those I pulled out the scissors.....

Fast forward to today, I ahve been working on my boyfriend to agree. I NEEEEEED dreads, its just me, I feel so complete and in tune with myself. He diagrees with the untidness of it all.... BAH men sometimes.

SO I stopped brushing yesterday, crocheted up a nice tam, and I am on my way. I still need to find a source for some Dr. Bonners since my old dreadie soap shop is not there anymore (www.enchantedsoapworks.com ) I used to buy my knot teas from her also, anyone know what happened to her? She roocked the Kazba

ANYWHO That I think was longest intro EVER and I didnt even tell you my name! LOL
Its Rebecca and I have a 2yr old daughter Jaz. Wish me many knots in the future and I am glad to be a new part of this friendly community!
Pics will come once its worth takin em, I mean come on now, its only day 2!

hi! just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.

i am meredith, happily married to my soul mate and especially happy mama to J and William. J will be 2 in one month and william is 2 months.

I have baby dreads. I did the backcomb method after detoxing my hair for a month or so. I started 2 weeks ago tomorrow and finished one week ago yesterday. so far i am LOVING them. I have many reasons for going dreadie, mostly because Ive wanted them FOREVER!!!! NOw that I've got my two boys and I'm SAHM it felt like the right time. I think sometimes as moms we get caught up in all the other things and we start to "lose" ourselves. I guess this is my way of saying....just cause I'm a mom doesn't mean I'm still not me.

Anyway, rambling. This forum has been a great resource for me and I look forward to sharing my journey with you all.

I"m not sure how to post pics. maybe a link to photobucket would work? Let's try.

Been reading on these forums for a while but never posted. My name is Terri. I am a single mom of two girls and a grandma to one girl. My oldest daughter had dreads for a while that I did for her but she no longer has them. I have always wanted them and finally decided to JUST DO IT. I am almost two weeks into it. I backcombed and yes I did use a little bit of wax after back combing but what I am reading, wax is a big NO NO so NO MO wax for me!!!! Makes them all nasty anyways, even if you do just use a tiny bit. Ugggg

All of you have such beautiful dreads and they are all different... I am really loving this place!!! You guys are Da Bomb!!!

Thanks goatboy... but I am scared now beings that I put some wax in them. (which wasn't much) but still I am scared....I have been blowdrying the hell out of them and now am tempted to heat up some water really hot and dip my head in it... I have washed it one time and will be washing again this week. I got that damn kit from dreadheadhq because thats where I got all my information from. Sure wish I would have found this forum before buying that crap. Maybe we need to put this forum link out there more on our websites, myspace pages etc... so more people will come here before they go find these websites and false info on how to start dreads.

I have to admit their shampoo seems to work well. It has no smell but when I washed my hair with it my hair smelled really good. I think I am going to go with Dr Bronners soaps when done with this shampoo. Anyone want some dreadheadhq wax???? LOL

Thanks SoaringEagle... will have to go find that sticky and read up on it. Thanks for hitting me up on myspace... was just checking out your page. I vow to never ever put wax on my little stiffies again... LOL they are stiffies right now anyway.... stickin out all over. Took me long enough to get them going... the ones in the back were hard to do and are probably gonna have to lock on their own... ha

    Hugs,
    Terri

Greetings! I'm new to hip forums and I knew there had to be a dreadlock forum on here somewhere, and here you are! I have been on my knotty journey for the past six months and have learned so much along the way about myself and even others. I backcombed most of them, but the rest just grew in over time, I DID NOT USE WAX!! YUCK!! I am looking forward to meeting all of you. Here are some of my dready pictures!

    couple weeks into it...

i had rly thin soft hair and my bro dun my dreads about 3-4 months ago. because my hair was so soft he back-combed them and plastered them in wax and puts wax bak in them every 3-5 weeks but theyre just a mess they just come apart, fray and totally fuck up and its soooo annoying i feel like i dnt hav dreads anymore and because my hair is my only pride...im starting to go mad give me some tips! i hate it because my dreads are down to my shoulders and really dont want to cut my hair off.
when my hair is waxed it looks like proper dreadlocks like they should be because my bro dusnt melt the wax in so they kinda just go hard and look like theyre going to knott up..a bit.

i have dreadlock shampoo from dreadheadhq should i wash my hair with that? should i just keep puttin LOADS of wax in like usual but more frequently? should i cut my hair off and start off with smaller dreads and grown them...?

if ANYBODY has good advice please please please email me it would be appreciated so much or you could message me on myspace. my email is: kornklown@hotmail.co.uk

    my myspace url is: http://www.myspace.com/dready_or_knot

    thankyou guys...please giv me advice!

im thinkin now i shud take bands out and just leave them completely like everybody on here says but if u cud contact me. ill post some pics when im sure i know what im doin with my dreads. cheers
