Trump says he's phasing out FEMA and the money will be disbursed directly by the White House. Trump says FEMA to be wound down after hurricane season excerpt: “We’re going to give out less money,” he said. “We’re going to give it out directly. It’ll be from the president’s office. We’ll have somebody here, could be Homeland Security.”
Trump Declares Dubious Emergencies to Amass Power, Scholars Say excerpt: There is nothing in the 1798 law, Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein of the Federal District Court in Manhattan ruled last month, that “justifies a finding that refugees migrating from Venezuela, or TdA gangsters who infiltrate the migrants, are engaged in an ‘invasion’ or ‘predatory incursion.’” “They do not seek to occupy territory, to oust American jurisdiction from any territory, or to ravage territory,” wrote Judge Hellerstein, who was appointed by President Bill Clinton. “TdA may well be engaged in narcotics trafficking, but that is a criminal matter, not an invasion or predatory incursion.”
https://www.npr.org/2025/06/11/nx-s...toric-criminal-case-hush-money-stormy-daniels excerpt: "Their argument is based on the Federal Officer Removal Statute – a law whose origins date back to the early 19th century, to allow federal officials charged with crimes in state courts to move to federal courts if the case involved conduct while in federal office, essentially with the idea that a federal court would be a more neutral space for a trial. "Basically, it's a 'Get Out of State Court Free' card to play, which is only playable in very narrow situations," says Shugerman. The president's lawyers have used this law in an attempt to get this case moved to federal court twice before. The district court judge who denied Trump's previous two appeals ruled that the crime at the heart of the case occurred before Trump was a federal official, and therefore the law does not apply."
Federal appeals court to hear arguments in Trump hush money case excerpt: "A three-judge panel is set to hear arguments in Trump's long-running fight to get the New York case moved from state court to federal court, where he could then try to have the verdict thrown out on presidential immunity grounds."
Does Abrego Garcia have ‘MS-13’ tattooed on his knuckles, as Trump claims? excerpt: "When Abrego Garcia was arrested in March 2019, a police informant told police he was an MS-13 member, according to a report known as a “gang field interview sheet”. A judge initially ruled in 2019 that government evidence about Abrego Garcia’s gang membership was “trustworthy” and was upheld on appeal; later, two federal judges ruled that the government’s information was unsupported. It was based on clothing Abrego Garcia wore at the time of his 2019 arrest and information from what a since-fired police officer called a confidential source. Abrego Garcia’s lawyers say the MS-13 gang membership accusation was fabricated. They have sought to reverse his deportation, but the government has argued that since he left US jurisdiction, it cannot take action."
After his 2020 election loss, Trump called Georgia's House speaker Ralston to try to invoke a special session of the GA state legislature with the intent of overturning Biden's win in GA. Ralston died in November 2022. The Jolt: Special grand jurors reveal Trump call to David Ralston
The code for which Trump issued National Guard to be used in the LA area. https://codes.findlaw.com/us/title-10-armed-forces/10-usc-sect-12406/ excerpt: 10 U.S.C. § 12406 - U.S. Code - Unannotated Title 10. Armed Forces § 12406. National Guard in Federal service: call Current as of January 01, 2024 | Updated by FindLaw Staff Whenever-- (1) the United States, or any of the Commonwealths or possessions, is invaded or is in danger of invasion by a foreign nation; (2) there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; or (3) the President is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States; the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary to repel the invasion, suppress the rebellion, or execute those laws. Orders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States or, in the case of the District of Columbia, through the commanding general of the National Guard of the District of Columbia.
Trump hasn't issued orders through the governor of California. Gov. Newson has a legal basis for suing Trump regarding this issue. Trump administration said it plans to have the National Guard deployed in the LA area for at least 60 days.
Military deployment in L.A. puts Trump's authority to use troops at home in the spotlight excerpt: "In calling in the National Guard, Trump invoked a different law that allows the president to do so when there is an invasion or a danger of invasion or a rebellion or a danger of rebellion or when "the president is unable to with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States." The law states that orders “shall be issued through the governors of the states,” which has not happened in this case, as Newsom is adamantly opposed to Trump’s move. California has filed a lawsuit that cites the skirting of Newsom’s role under that provision as well as broader claims that Trump is infringing on California’s sovereignty, among other things."

"This appears more like a fishing expedition than it does some kind of targeted investigation."
Potentially ‘destructive’: Federal appeals court awaits Trump nominee excerpt: "The 3rd Circuit’s two vacancies are the result of recent retirements. Judge Joseph Greenaway, an appointee of Democratic President Barack Obama, retired from the bench in June of 2023. Republican President George W. Bush-appointed Judge Kent Jordan retired in January of this year. Last January, President Joe Biden attempted to replace Greenaway, nominating Adeel Mangi of New Jersey, who would have been the nation’s first Muslim federal appeals court judge. However, Republicans stalled his confirmation hearing for months and, shortly after the election in November, negotiated a deal with Democrats that effectively blocked Mangi and three other of Biden’s circuit court judge nominees."
