Treasury chief urges Canada, Mexico to match US tariffs on China as deadline looms excerpt: "The US earlier this month moved to suspend the "de minimis" duty-free exemption for packages valued below $800 that has allowed fentanyl and its precursor chemicals to arrive unscreened through US airports and border crossings. But as packages piled up, the US Customs and Border Protection agency paused the suspension until it could put effective screening measures in place."
Treasury chief urges Canada, Mexico to match US tariffs on China as deadline looms excerpt: "China's embassy in Washington said Trump's unilateral tariff hikes would severely violate World Trade Organization rules and hurt both Chinese and US interests. "Pressuring, coercion and threat is not the right way to deal with China. Instead, mutual respect is the basic prerequisite," embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said in a statement to Reuters."
The fate of a former president hinges so heavily on whether or not he is reelected. Trump stood the chance of going to prison for theft of secret government documents. Now he has flown the property back to Mar-a-Lago using Air Force One. It's not known if the government documents went back to Mar-a-Lago or only Trump's personal property such as his golf pants that he said were mixed in with the documents. One of his excuses over the years for repeatedly not returning the documents when requested by the National Archives and eventually the DOJ was that he didn't want government agents going through his golf pants that were mixed in with the documents. Imagine ordinary people using that type of excuse and what would happen to them.
Trump's musical chairs tariff game. Bessent is urging Canada and Mexico to impose import tariffs on China in order to avoid the U.S. imposing 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico which is scheduled to occur on March 2 (although Trump could change his mind again like he as before). Bessent Calls on Canada to Match Mexico’s Pitch on China Tariffs excerpt: "US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Mexico has proposed matching Washington’s tariffs on China and urged Canada to do the same, signaling a potential path to avert levies on their own exports in the coming days."
Trump supporter faces possible prison time in case associated with Jan. 6 excerpt: "They argued Shry called Chutkan's chambers from Shry's hometown of Alvin, Texas, and left the threat on the judge's chambers voicemail service. According to the Justice Department, Shry's voicemail message "threatened to kill anyone who went after former President Trump." The charging documents in Shry's case allege she referred to Chutkan as a "slave (epithet)" in the message."
Canada buys much more services from U.S. than the U.S. does from Canada. According to Trump's reasoning, that means the U.S. is taking advantage of Canada and it must be stopped by Canada imposing import tariffs on U.S. services. Opinion: The U.S. actually has a huge trade surplus in services – that’s where Canada should hit
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announces creation of an "affordability czar" - CBS News excerpt: "Bessent said on "Face the Nation" that the perception of inflation by U.S. consumers is rooted in government overregulation during the Biden administration, and that consumers will feel the benefits of the current administration's deregulation efforts moving forward."
Bessent is parroting Trump who has said recently that he thinks deregulation will counter the higher cost effects of all the import tariffs he is imposing. Trump said the price of houses will go down after he deregulates the U.S. lumber industry even after his planned 25% import tariffs on Canada, including lumber.
Bessent announces 'afffordability czar'. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announces creation of an "affordability czar" - CBS News excerpt: "I think President Trump said that he'll own the economy in six or 12 months, but I can tell you that we are working to get these prices down every day, but it took four years to get us here, and we've had five weeks so interest rates are down," Bessent said Sunday on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan." "That's a very good start toward housing affordability, toward auto affordability, and we are tackling this."
Trump makes English official language of US excerpt: During his presidential campaign in 2024, Trump referenced non-English languages while calling for stricter immigration policies. "It's the craziest thing - they have languages that nobody in this country has ever heard of. It's a very horrible thing," he told a crowd of supporters in February 2024.
Trump makes English official language of US excerpt: "President Donald Trump has signed an executive order making English the official language of the United States. It means government agencies and organisations that receive federal funding can choose whether they want to offer documents and services in languages other than English. It rescinds a policy that required such bodies to provide language assistance to non-English speakers signed by former president Bill Clinton in 2000."

'They've radicalized me': Federal workers fight back as Trump dismantles their work excerpt: Amy Paris, who worked at the Health Resources and Services Administration, said she would “have very willingly collaborated with the Trump administration” if it had come in and looked for ways to increase efficiency. Instead, she and thousands of other federal workers were laid off last month. “They sowed chaos,” she said. “They made everyone scared for their jobs. … What they’ve done is they’ve radicalized me. What they’ve done is they’ve taken someone who would have willingly served under their administration to help all of the American people, and what they’ve done is they’ve made me think that they want to destroy the republic. They want to destroy democracy. So now I am activated.”
Let's all remember that Trump now has immunity for all official acts as president. So everyone of those executive orders he signs, no matter the impact on Americans is legal. Let that sink in when he destroys our democracy. You can blame McConnell for not impeaching and finding him guilty of insurrection. Then blame the Supreme court for granting Trump total immunity.
Just imagine if here in the USA, a man got elected to the highest office in the land while actually being a lying, crooked business man, a man who cheated people that did work for him, a man that potentially could be called a sexual predator, a man who respects no one and begins to tear down the world order just because he can. Now just imagine that if the man actually was trusted ( for some reason) enough to get elected, he brought in to the government a bunch of billionaires to help him run the government and actually starting firing thousands of people from all government agencies. Ridiculous, eh?? American voters have way more sense than to do something as stupid and block headed as that. But it's interesting to think about. Maybe someone will make a crazy movie about something like all that. Nah---who'd believe that crazy shit? Right?
