In 2023 when Jack Smith sent the federal documents criminal case to FL and it ended up in the hands of Judge Cannon (seemingly miraculously after a murky in-person paper filing in Cannon's court by Trump's attorneys after a supposed technical issue that prevented them from filing electronically), the initial concerns were jury nullification. After all the delays by Trump that have been fully entertained by Cannon, the concern now is that the case will never make it to a jury before the 2024 presidential election, opening the possibility that Trump could be reelected and have the DOJ essentially nullify the whole case against him.
It's a testament to Trump's ability to plant fears in the general public about an issue like immigration which in decades past he been a low-priority during presidential elections. Even with the current concerns over inflation, jobs, and the economy, immigration is near or at the top of the concerns of the public. Trump has hammered at it relentlessly since he announced his run for president in 2015. Even if it can be considered an inflated concern, it's been firmly planted by Trump into the American psyche. The Noble Predictive Insights polls in March 2024 show that it's the highest concern and that it's in regions across the country, not just states near the Mexican border. Trump continues to try to amplify it by finding cases of illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes and convincing the family members of the victims to join him at public venues and do photo-ops with him. His quest is to find examples of illegal immigrants who came across the Mexican border and attacked people in regions across the country.
While he's claiming to protect Americans from migrants, the public need to be reminded that Trump was responsible for downplaying the Covid pandemic that killed over one million Americans (two million when including excess deaths). After he stood in front of a group of police offices last week at the wake of a slain police officer to try to capitalize on painting NY as a lawless state (frustrated that he is being criminally charged), the public (which is claiming Trump's leadership as a reason for voting for him in 2024) needs to be reminded of his leadership in radicalizing his followers that led to the insurrection at the Capitol that caused 140 injuries to police offices and 13 deaths, including the deaths of 5 police officers.
