MI and other states stipulate when and where the elector slates are certified to try to prevent shenanigans like those perpetrated by Trump's supporters.

The fake electors in MI considered sneaking into the MI Capitol overnight before the signing of authentic electors the following day to try to sign the fake slate so as to appear genuine.

Text message show that a staffer for Sen. Ron Johnson of WI, Sean Riley, informed a Pence staffer, Chris Hodgson, that Johnson needed to transfer something (the slate of fake electors) to Pence because the National Archives hadn't accepted them (because they were fake).

Johnson later said that he was duped into being a courier and wasn't aware that the document was a list of fake electors.

In January 2022, Nessel said she was considering charges against the fake electors. The indictments were finally announced in July 2023.
