$28 billion of U.S. taxpayer money to farmers to try to mitigate the damage caused by Trump's trade wars.

Some of that money was checks given directly to the farmers themselves, like welfare checks.

Trump is promising more of the same.

In decades past, farmers were known for being proud of their independence and work ethics and wanting parity, not charity.

 

NAFTA was modified lightly and renamed USMCA.

Minor changes were made that involved political hot button issues between Canada and the U.S. such as dairy and soft wood. They account for a very small percentage of trade between the two countries.

 

The U.S. has a large trade surplus with Canada for services. Canada could just as well wrongly accuse the U.S. of manipulating currency to take advantage of Canada.

The pandemic has subsided, Trump's talking points about the pandemic don't mean as much now and will likely have even less traction in 2024.

It's difficult for him to brag to the agricultural community after he damaged it with his trade wars that he never resolved before leaving office.

His praising of his three Supreme Court nominations turns off women who have been affected negatively by the Dobbs case that overturned Roe. As 2023 and 2024 go by, more women will realize just what has happened to them, making him more of a target.
