Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told his law clerks in the '90s that he wanted to serve for 43 years to make liberals' lives 'miserable' excerpt: ""The liberals made my life miserable for 43 years," a former clerk remembered Thomas – who was 43 years old when confirmed – saying, according to The New York Times. "And I'm going to make their lives miserable for 43 years." Thomas, considered the most conservative justice on the court, joined the majority opinion on Friday which overturned federal abortion protections established in Roe v. Wade. In a concurring opinion, Thomas indicated he also believes the Supreme Court should "reconsider" decisions from the cases Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell, which established the federal right to use birth control and legalized same-sex activity and gay marriage, respectively."
Navy petty officer charged in Capitol riot wanted to 'wipe out' Jews, praised Hitler, DOJ says Hatchet Speed, of Virginia, was arrested Wednesday on four misdemeanor counts in connection with the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. Author: Jordan Fischer Published: 1:13 PM EDT June 23, 2022 Updated: 5:24 PM EDT June 23, 2022 FBI: Navy petty officer charged in Capitol riot praised Unabomber | wusa9.com excerpt: "WASHINGTON — A Navy petty officer who allegedly told an undercover FBI employee he was studying the Olympic Park Bomber was arrested Wednesday on charges of entering the U.S. Capitol Building during the Jan. 6 riot. Hatchet Speed was taken into custody in McLean, Virginia, yesterday on four misdemeanor counts. According to court documents unsealed Thursday, Speed is a petty officer first class in the U.S. Naval Reserves assigned to the Naval Warfare Space Field Activity at the National Reconnaissance Office in Chantilly, Virginia. Speed is also employed as a software developer for a Vienna, Virginia, company that conducts advanced analytics for the Department of Defense. In March, according to an affidavit, Speed told an undercover FBI employee he’d traveled to the Capitol on Jan. 6 with friends who are members of the Proud Boys. Speed said going to the Capitol was “always the plan,” and that he’d eventually gone inside because he was “tired of getting tear gassed.” He also said he’d heard former Vice President Mike Pence had “validated” certain ballots he considered “invalid. According to the affidavit, “SPEED described Pence’s act as a betrayal. SPEED stated that, at that point, he was like, ‘I’m going in there. Like I have no respect for people in this building. They have no respect for me. I have no respect for them.’” Investigators eventually located a man they identified as Speed in surveillance footage from the Capitol and publicly available video of the riot – including a livestream by another defendant, Anthime “Baked Alaska” Gionet."
Newly elected GOP congresswoman spread Capitol riot conspiracies and QAnon hashtags in now-deleted tweets - CNNPolitics excerpt: "Newly elected Republican Congresswoman Mayra Flores spread conspiracies on social media that the January 6 riot at the US Capitol was caused by members of the far-left group Antifa and repeatedly used a hashtag of the QAnon conspiracy theory in tweets that have since been removed. CNN’s KFile reviewed deleted tweets on Flores’ campaign Twitter account, which previously had a different handle as her personal account before she ran for office. Flores won the special election for Texas’ 34th Congressional District last week, giving Republicans an additional seat in the House of Representatives. She beat a field of four other candidates – two Republicans and two Democrats – in the race to succeed former Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela. Vela vacated his South Texas seat in March to join a law and lobbying firm in Washington. Flores will serve out the remainder of Vela’s term and is running for a full term in November. Before running for office, Flores was a local Republican activist who tweeted under the handle “LaRepublicana86,” where she spread false claims about election fraud and immediately began suggesting on January 6, 2021, that the Capitol riot was caused by Antifa and “infiltrators.”"
Another one of Trump rioters has claimed he was pushed into the Capitol against his will by the mob of other rioters. Montco man who twice entered the Capitol during Jan. 6 riot sentenced to three weeks behind bars excerpt: "But U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell wasn’t buying that explanation as she sentenced Lucard to three weeks’ incarceration. “This defendant went in [to the Capitol building] twice,” she responded incredulously to Brennan’s remark during a court hearing Friday in Washington. “The first time he went in it was in a mad rush of people who broke a police line. … He spent part of his time yelling at police officers … then, going into a private office, and encouraging another person to go into the Capitol building.” The sentence Howell imposed — which also included orders for two months of house arrest, three years’ probation, and restitution of $500 — made Lucard the 20th Pennsylvania defendant to face punishment for his role in the 2021 insurrection, which caused millions of dollars in damage, injured scores of officers, and threatened the peaceful transition of presidential power."
The U.S. can expect the Jesus, guns, and babies judicial landscape for the next few decades. Trump's Supreme Court appointees Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett were age 49, 53, and 48, respectively, at the time of the appointments. During past decades, GOP Supreme Court members have retired in a timely manner when the White House was occupied by the GOP and the Senate was willing to have hearings for a replacement. The Democrats were unlucky that Ginsburg died when Trump was in office a few weeks before the 2020 presidential election. When Obama had a chance at appointing a member, McConnell wouldn't permit hearings 9 months before a presidential election, citing that it was too close to the election to be fair. That's in contradiction to McConnell's stance that only a few weeks was fair for Trump's situation.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/02/16/court-appointments-age-biden-trump-judges-age/ excerpt: "Nominating younger judges is also crucial for developing leaders on the federal bench, including future Supreme Court justices. When presidents look for nominees to elevate to the high court, they usually select judges from the federal appellate courts. For example, Neil M. Gorsuch was a mere 38 years old when nominated (by President George W. Bush) to become an appellate judge, Brett M. Kavanaugh was 41 (also Bush), and Amy Coney Barrett was 45 (Trump). When later elevated to the Supreme Court they were 49, 53 and 48, respectively (average age: 50). Meanwhile, because Obama selected older judges, Biden will find only three Democratically appointed judges across the entire federal courts of appeals who are at that age or younger."
It's time to pack the court. Normally this wouldn't be a good idea, but as the Republicans never play fair, and didn't play fair in appointing the last judges, I say go for it!
The republicans were pissed at the way the taliban took over Afghanistan, last year, but have no problem with the way the taliban took over this country, this year.
https://thehill.com/policy/national...-filmmaker-he-was-scared-after-getting-covid/ excerpt: "His footage touches on a variety of topics, from the attack to the fallout of Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis. “At that point he was no longer the president, but when he was, he was in charge of the entire the COVID response, and hundreds of thousands of people had died. What he said to me was that the reason why he was sort of scared of COVID was essentially because he knew people who had died of COVID, basically he was referring to his friends, he was referring to people he knew personally that had got COVID and that some of them had died,” Holder said. “And that’s why it was quite shocking to him when the doctor said to him he actually had COVID, so his way of understanding the danger of COVID came from his own personal connections to people rather than a national or global scale.”"
Trump endorses Bailey for governor of Illinois. Former President Trump Endorses Darren Bailey in Race for Illinois Governor – NBC Chicago excerpt: "Former President Donald Trump endorsed state Sen. Darren Bailey in the race to become Illinois' next governor Saturday, with the state's primary election just days away. At a planned Save America rally outside Quincy, Trump said Bailey is "just the man" to take on Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who he called "one of the worst governors in America." "He was a disaster. His numbers are terrible. Everybody is fleeing his state. This is a disaster," Trump said referring to Pritzker. "Darren [Bailey] is the opposite." Calling him a fierce supporter of the second amendment and champion of religious liberty, Trump said Bailey has his total and complete endorsement. "He wants to cut your taxes," the former president said. "He wants to lower your regulations down to the lowest in the country and make Illinois competitive again, because it is not competitive at all." Appearing alongside Trump during the rally at the Adams County Fairgrounds, Bailey promised not to lie to anyone and said he won't let anything go unnoticed."
In Private, Trump 'Keeps Shitting All Over' the End of Roe v. Wade excerpt: "Delivering the court to republicans is considered by many to be the greatest, and longest lasting legacy of the Trump presidency. His appointments are yielding dividends in monumental decisions for the conservative agenda, such like the overturning of Roe, and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, which ruled that public possession of handguns was a constitutional right under the Second Amendment. With the end of Roe republicans are setting their sites on the future, including a national press to restrict abortion access across all 50 states, and former vice president Mike Pence called for a national abortion ban. In a concurring opinion by Judge Clarence Thomas, the judge indicated that the Supreme Court should reconsider the rulings on cases that established the right to contraception, same-sex marriage, and protections for same-sex relationships."
A pickup truck driver in Iowa ploughed into pro-choice protesters opposing the overturning of Roe v. Wade abortion rights, video shows excerpt: "A truck drove into a group of pro-choice protesters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Friday, leading to at least one woman being hospitalized. The group of mostly women protesters was demonstrating against the landmark Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade when an unidentified man driving a black Ford truck drove into them. The truck rolled over one woman's ankle and led to her going to the hospital, witnesses told The Huffington Post. In videos of the incident, protesters can be seen trying to stand in the car's way and shouting at the driver to stop. He accelerates and a protester is knocked to the ground."
Legal expert walks through how DOJ raid on Jeff Clark could lead to Trump indictment excerpt: "Clark whined to the Fox network, "12 agents and two Fairfax County police officers went into my house, searched it for three and a half hours." The agents "took all of the electronics from my house." Clark penned a document that he tried to get officials at the Justice Department to sign on to that declared they were investigating the Georgia election "irregularities." There were no Georgia irregularities. When asked questions by the House Committee about the letter, Clark refused to answer, pleading the Fifth Amendment rights more than 100 times. Speaking to CNN on Saturday, Constitutional and criminal defense attorney Page Pate explained that Clark is in big trouble. "Well, we've heard a lot of discussion about the potential legal exposure and not just for the fake elector but for the people that were involved in getting these electors selected and chosen and eventually sending this slate up to the vice president, up to the national archives," said Pate. "We're looking at potential fault statement charges, potential obstruction charges, and potential seditious conspiracy charges. A lot of it will depend on the evidence that is being developed right now, subpoenas have gone out, and search warrants have been issued so once the department gathers all of that. They're sorting through it and see if there is sufficient evidence to prove one of those charges.""
That was a part of my point: What's to stop them from charging a woman with murder when she has a miscarriage? They could say she aborted the child, could they not?
I agree: Pack the court, because Repukes do not play fair. I listen to talk radio up here in North Dakota. All they do is badmouth Libs.
Legal expert walks through how DOJ raid on Jeff Clark could lead to Trump indictment excerpt: He went on to explain that he thinks it is possible that the former president could face charges. "I do think it is possible, and here is why: I think there was so much legal news this week that I think a lot of people may have overlooked what is probably the single most significant thing that has happened so far in the Jan. 6 committee hearings," he noted. "And that was something that was not in the committee itself, but the search warrant that was executed at the residence of Jeffrey Clark. He is a former top-level justice department official!" He explained that to get a search warrant a federal judge must find that there is probable cause for it. The attorney general can't simply go rogue, as Trump learned after the 2020 election. So, in the case of Clark, a judge must believe that a crime has been committed based on the evidence shown to the court. "This is not like a subpoena," Pate continued. "A subpoena is when we're investigating to see if there is a crime that has been committed. When a search warrant is issued, there is probable cause, there has been a crime. We're just trying to get the evidence to prove who do it. So, I think the fact that they are now focusing on Jeffrey Clark and people very close to the president during these pivotal days, right around Jan. 6, suggests that this investigation is far from over." Jeffrey Clark seemed to go astray when he took over as acting assistant attorney general of the civil division of the DOJ after Hunt abruptly quit who had been having clashes with the White House Counsel's Office. Jeffrey Clark Was Considered Unassuming. Then He Plotted With Trump. (Published 2021) excerpt: "While Mr. Clark oversaw environmental cases, sometimes working late into the night and personally reviewing briefs, the department’s civil division was in turmoil. Its leader, Jody Hunt, sometimes clashed with the White House Counsel’s Office and, later on, with Attorney General William P. Barr, over how best to defend the administration. Mr. Hunt resigned with no warning in July, leaving his deputy to run the division while Mr. Barr and Mr. Rosen searched for an acting leader among the department’s thinned-out ranks. Mr. Clark wanted the job, which was a considerable step up in stature, and Mr. Rosen supported the idea even though he was already a division head, according to three people with knowledge of the situation. After he took the helm of the civil division in September, colleagues began seeing flashes of unusual behavior. Mr. Clark’s name appeared on eyebrow-raising briefs, including what would turn out to be an unsuccessful effort to inject the government into a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Trump by a woman who has said he raped her more than two decades ago. He also signed onto an attempt to use the Justice Department to sue a former friend of the first lady at the time, Melania Trump, for writing a tell-all memoir."
Who Was Willing to Stand with Donald Trump? excerpt: "But, for the most part, the committee has cast ordinary Republicans as the heroes. The villains were the six—just six—members of Congress who had reportedly requested pardons for themselves: Brooks (who lost a primary for Senate in Alabama); Rep. Matt Gaetz, of Florida (who is facing a federal probe for sex trafficking); Rep. Andy Biggs, of Arizona; Rep. Perry, of Pennsylvania; Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia; and Rep. Louie Gohmert, of Texas. It was a sign of just how small the caucus of dead-enders was, and of what political line the hearings have offered to draw for Republicans: civil society on one side, and on the other, the former President, a few lawyers, a half-dozen members of Congress, the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys, the mob."
Illinois Republican tells Trump rally that Roe verdict a ‘victory for white life’ excerpt: "Illinois Republican Mary Miller told a crowd at a rally held alongside former president Donald Trump that the supreme court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade was a “victory for white life”. “President Trump, on behalf of all the Maga patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the supreme court yesterday,” she said, drawing cheers from the crowd in Illinois. Miller is running for reelection in the state’s newly redrawn 15th congressional district against GOP Republican Rodney Davis with the former president’s blessing. She had been invited on stage to speak by Trump, who held the rally in Mendon, Illinois, to turn out the vote ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday."
Clark should have stayed in the environmental division and not have allowed himself to be seduced by Trump. Trump has a knack for corrupting people.
