Reagan nominated Robert Bork for associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. At his confirmation hearing, Bork gave answers that moderated his previously stated views about the right to privacy that led some to believe he would not uphold Roe vs. Wade.

    He wasn't confirmed.

Later, he was on Pat Robertson's TV show 'The 700 Club' and made blunt statements against abortion and how he would have ruled against it. .

Robert Bork Supreme Court nomination - Wikipedia

    excerpt:

"To pro-choice legal groups, Bork's originalist views, and his belief that the Constitution does not protect a "right to privacy" were viewed as a clear signal that, should he become a justice of the Supreme Court, he would vote to completely overrule the Supreme Court's 1973 decision Roe v. Wade. These groups also claimed that Bork's marriage to Mary Ellen Pohl, a former Roman Catholic nun and anti-abortion supporter would allow her to influence his decisions on the abortion issue. Bork himself became a Catholic in July 2003. Accordingly, a large number of left-wing groups mobilized to press for Bork's rejection, and his confirmation hearings became an intensely partisan battle. Bork was faulted for his bluntness before the committee, including his criticism of the reasoning underlying Roe v. Wade.[20] Simultaneously, however, his supporters expressed frustration that some of Bork's most controversial and conservative views, including those on the scope of the First Amendment and the Equal Protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, as expressed in his writings and past opinions, had been suddenly moderated for his testimony before the committee.[21]"

Bork is known for his firing of Archibald Cox, the investigator of Watergate, after Nixon was not able to make Attorney General Richardson and Deputy Attorney General Ruckelshaus do it, who resigned in protest.

It was a move similar to that of Trump trying to fire Rosen and install truther enthusiast Clark in order to advance his baseless 'stolen election' scheme. Whereas Nixon partially succeeded temporarily, Trump failed completely due to a collective response by those in his administration to resign in protest, similar to Richardson and Ruckelshaus.

Bork's nomination to a position on the Supreme Court by Reagan is seen by some as a favor returned for doing Nixon's bidding.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/03/tru...-of-court-order-and-avoid-10k-daily-fine.html

    excerpt:

"Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday lost an effort at a New York appeals court to stay a contempt order, and as a result still owes a fine of $10,000 per day.

Trump on April 25 was found in contempt by Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron for failing to comply with a subpoena from Attorney General Letitia James, who is seeking records for her civil investigation of his company, the Trump Organization.

Engoron imposed a fine on Trump of $10,000 per day until he was satisfied that Trump had complied with the subpoena.

The judge on Friday kept that fine and contempt order in place, saying that new affidavits by Trump and his lawyers claiming they could not find the documents were not sufficient.

Trump had asked the Appellate Division of the First Judicial Department to stay Engoron's contempt order as he appeals the judge's finding."

Trump, who says he knows business better than anyone.

At one of his rallies, Trump, the self-proclaimed tax expert, asked the audience if they knew if it was illegal for his company to give his CFO, Weisselberg, tuition for his family members and cars and rent as a way of avoiding employment taxes.

McConnell should talk that way about Trump's violent insurrection at the Capitol where people died.

Legal Experts Assess Mitch McConnell's Call for DOJ to Pursue 'Criminal Charges' Following Leak of Justice Alito's Draft Opinion in Abortion Case

    excerpt:

“This lawless action should be investigated and punished as fully as possible,” the Kentucky leader of the GOP Senate caucus said. “The Chief Justice must get to the bottom of it and the Department of Justice must pursue criminal charges if applicable.”

How anti-abortion activists may have won the Supreme Court

    excerpt:

"As recently as early 2016, Republicans seemed in danger of losing their majority on the Court altogether. But a stunning confluence of circumstances over the next few years put the country on a very different trajectory. Trump won the presidency, Republicans held the Senate, anti-abortion activists were powerful enough to force the appointment of more reliable conservatives, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died months before Trump left office. The rights of millions may hinge on such contingent events."

McConnell blocked Garland during Obama's administration, saying that 9 months before an election was too close to the election.

McConnell didn't have any issue with replacing Ginsburg about a month before an election.

What Happened With Merrick Garland In 2016 And Why It Matters Now

    excerpt:

In a speech that August in Kentucky, McConnell would say: "One of my proudest moments was when I looked Barack Obama in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy.'"

Roberts is the only Republican on SCOTUS that I somewhat respected, but he has lost control of the court.

He will just ask his dumb supporters to donate to him.

Oklahoma governor signs 6-week abortion ban into law

    excerpt:

"Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed an abortion bill Tuesday that is modeled after a controversial Texas law.

The bill, formally known as S.B. 1503, creates the "Oklahoma Heartbeat Act," which bans abortions after cardiac activity or a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which typically occurs around six weeks -- before a woman often knows she is pregnant.

There are exceptions when the mother's life is danger but not for rape or incest."

I read this morning that no matter what the "supreme court "does regarding roe v wade, Oregons protections against banning abortion are fool proof. We have free abortions for all and no restrictions.

Judge who tossed obstruction charge 'contemplating' reconsidering | wusa9.com

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON — A federal judge said Tuesday he is still “very seriously contemplating” the government’s request to reconsider his position on the obstruction charge hundreds of Capitol riot defendants are facing.

To date, U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols is the only judge on the D.C. District Court to dismiss charges of obstructing an official proceeding against any of the more than 700 defendants now charged in the riot. In a March order dismissing the count against Garrett Miller, of Texas, Nichols relied on a narrow reading of the statute — 18 USC § 1512(c)(2) — that would require a defendant to be accused of taking “some action with respect to a document, record or other object” in order to corruptly obstruct the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6. Nichols stuck to that reading in February when he dismissed the same obstruction charge in the case against another defendant, Pennsylvania police officer Joseph W. Fischer."

Trump said at his rally that he endorsed J.P. Mandel.

    Then J.D. Mandel.

    He endorsed J.D. Vance.

The Trump-endorsed J.D. Vance won the Ohio primary, even though Trump said he endorsed J.P. Mandel at a rally.

Primary takeaways: Trump passes test as kingmaker in Ohio | WTOP News

    excerpt:

"Vance, former State Treasurer Josh Mandel, businessman Mike Gibbons and former state GOP chair Jane Timken all vied for Trump’s endorsement, increasingly adopting language that mirrored the former president’s bombastic, populist style. In the end, Trump went with Vance, who in 2016 said the celebrity businessman could become “America’s Hitler” but has since become an avid supporter.

Vance wooed the former president by echoing his bashing of immigrants, skepticism about U.S. military involvement overseas — even in support of Ukraine — and lies about Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election. Lagging in the polls when he received Trump’s endorsement three weeks ago, Vance made it a centerpiece of his closing pitch and vaulted ahead of his rivals."

Mandel and Gibbons were the front runners in the primary a few weeks ago before Trump endorsed Vance.

During a debate, Mandel and Gibbons were involved in a face-to-face standoff verbal; exchange onstage that made both of them look bad.

Mandel has developed a lengthy record of running for offices and losing since he was the treasurer of Ohio years ago that he seemed to use simply as a platform for running for other offices..

Thanks to his childish antics at a debate with Gibbons and Trump's endorsement of Vance, Mandel has another loss on his record.

$3.5 million from Thiel went to a super PAC promoting Vance after Trump endorsed him.

It's difficult for candidates to not lie for Trump when that amount of money is involved.

Vance parlays Trump endorsement into new Thiel money

    excerpt:

"Ohio Republican J.D. Vance is cashing in on his endorsement from former President Donald Trump with a major new super PAC donation from billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel.

Thiel has donated $3.5 million to Protect Ohio Values, the super PAC backing Vance, according to a person familiar with the contribution — part of a broader tranche of money that has come in to support the Senate candidate after last week’s Trump endorsement, which shook up a crowded and competitive race for the GOP nomination."
