They've also been convicted of federal hate crimes. Arbery defendants convicted of hate crimes, lesser charges By RUSS BYNUM February 22, 2022 Arbery killers convicted of federal hate crime in his death excerpt: "BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — The three white men convicted of murder in Ahmaud Arbery’s fatal shooting were found guilty of federal hate crimes Tuesday for violating Arbery’s civil rights and targeting him because he was Black. The jury also found father and son Greg and Travis McMichael and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan guilty of attempted kidnapping, and the McMichaels guilty of the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. The verdict was a symbolic one, coming just months after all three defendants were convicted of murder in a Georgia state court and sentenced to life in prison — for the McMichaels without the possibility of parole and for Bryant, only after he has served 30 years. But family and community members viewed the hate crimes trial as an important statement that racism motivated the killing. The jury delivered its verdict one day before the second anniversary of Arbery’s death on Feb. 23, 2020. Shortly after the verdict was read, Arbery’s parents emerged from the courthouse holding hands with attorney Ben Crump, then raised their clasped hands to cheers from supporters."
Arbery defendants convicted of hate crimes, lesser charges excerpt: "The panel of eight white people, three Black people and one Hispanic person received the case Monday following a weeklong trial in U.S. District Court in the port city of Brunswick. The jurors adjourned for the night after about three hours of deliberations, and then deliberated for about an hour Tuesday morning. The trial closed Monday with prosecutors saying the 25-year-old Arbery’s slaying on a residential street was motivated by “pent-up racial anger,” revealed by the defendants’ electronic messages as well as by witnesses who testified to hearing them make racist tirades and insults. “All three defendants told you loud and clear, in their own words, how they feel about African Americans,” prosecutor Tara Lyons told the jury Monday."
U.S. Supreme Court formally ends Trump's fight over Capitol attack records excerpt: "WASHINGTON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday brought a formal end to former President Donald Trump's request to block the release of White House records sought by the Democratic-led congressional panel investigating last year's deadly attack on the Capitol by a mob of his supporters. The court's decision to formally reject Trump's appeal follows its Jan. 19 order that led to the documents being handed over to the House of Representatives investigative committee by the federal agency that stores government and historical records. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Dec. 9 upheld a lower court ruling that Trump had no basis to challenge President Joe Biden's decision to allow the records to be handed over to the House of Representatives select committee. Trump then appealed to the Supreme Court."
Not to mention they were complete idiots to video the whole thing and in broad daylight. I found it very amusing how they cleaned up their redneck looks for the trial camera. "Sheeooot, we's juss good ol' onnisss boys perteckin awr rots.
After reading those text messages it wasn't about protecting the neighborhood, it was about pure hate.
The three assailants thought they were doing a good deed for their neighborhood. The neighbor involved in the shooting said that after Arbery was killed McMichael said, "Fucking n*****." The police officer at the scene was highly apologetic to McMichael, even though he had just shot and killed someone on the road and his arms were covered with blood.
In another racially charged incident, the woman who tried to run over two black people in a Meijer's parking lot in Toledo, OH thought she was doing a good deed. After explaining the incident to the police with a confident tone of voice, she was startled that they arrested her. She said, "You're kidding!" She went frantic in the court room when the 6-month prison sentence was read.
Trump fostered a culture of bigotry to advance himself. It's part of his usual zero-sum ploy of splitting the country in two to try to garner 51% for himself. Donald Trump’s long history of racism, from the 1970s to 2020 excerpt: "On the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly made explicitly racist and otherwise bigoted remarks, from calling Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists, to proposing a ban on all Muslims entering the US, to suggesting a judge should recuse himself from a case solely because of the judge’s Mexican heritage. The trend has continued into his presidency. From stereotyping a Black reporter to pandering to white supremacists after they held a violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, to making a joke about the Trail of Tears, Trump hasn’t stopped with racist acts after his 2016 election. Most recently, Trump has called the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus the “Chinese virus” and “kung flu” — racist terms that tap into the kind of xenophobia that he latched onto during his 2016 presidential campaign; Trump’s own adviser, Kellyanne Conway, previously called “kung flu” a “highly offensive” term. And Trump insinuated that Sen. Kamala Harris, who’s Black, “doesn’t meet the requirements” to run for vice president — a repeat of the birther conspiracy theory that he perpetuated about former President Barack Obama."
Yeah, she's only been in politics her whole career. But unfortunately, never been bankrupt, never cheated thousands of common people, never run an empire into the ground repeatedly, never picked on the privileged draft dodging rich white boys either.
As expected, Trump sided with Putin. Trump Heaps Praise on Putin's Strategy to Invade Ukraine and Everyone Had the Same Reaction excerpt: Trump said: "I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, 'This is genius.' Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine—of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that's wonderful. So Putin is now saying, 'It's independent,' a large section of Ukraine. I said, 'How smart is that?' and You know he's gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. We could use that on our southern border. That's the strongest peacekeeping force I've ever seen. There were more army tanks than I've ever seen. They're gonna keep peace all right."
Trump Calls Putin’s Ukraine Moves “Genius” Because He’s a Sick Man Who Hates Democracy excerpt: "For many weeks now, Republican lawmakers have been criticizing Joe Biden for supposedly being too weak to stop Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine, which on Tuesday the White House officially declared an “invasion.” It’s a peculiar stance for conservatives to take given that Donald Trump spent four years acting like the Putin was his boss, and on Tuesday, literally praised the Russian president and called his actions in Ukraine “genius.” No, really! During an interview with a conservative radio show, the former president was asked, according to a transcript published Tuesday: “This White House is stating that this is an ‘invasion.’ That’s a strong word. What went wrong here? What has the current occupant of the Oval Office done that he could have done differently?” Naturally, Trump’s initial response was to claim that Biden erred by moving into the White House on January 20, 2021, after stealing the election. “What went wrong was a rigged election,” Trump told hosts Clay Travis and Buck Sexton, “and what went wrong is a candidate that shouldn’t be there and a man that has no concept of what he’s doing.” After getting that out of the way, he proceeded to applaud Putin for his tactical brilliance."
Trump praised Putin's justification to invade Ukraine as 'genius' and 'savvy' excerpt: "Trump baselessly claimed that the reason the Russian president chose to invade Ukraine now — rather than during his own presidency — is because he had a better relationship with Putin than President Joe Biden does. "I knew Putin very well. I got along with him great. He liked me. I liked him," Trump said. "I mean, you know, he's a tough cookie, got a lot of the great charm and a lot of pride. But the way he — and he loves his country, you know? He loves his country.""
