Trump's rioters have been quiet about his absence at the Capitol. One of his protesters at the Capitol in a video said she felt betrayed by Trump after he told them to go home after hours of rioting. Trump and his people at the White House didn't seem to know how to end the riot without enraging his followers even more. Trump reportedly made various takes of a video he eventually published telling them to go home in the most apologetic way possible by complimenting them, reasserting his lies about election fraud, and blaming members of Congress and others for supposedly setting up a situation that abused his rioters by making them play into their hands.
Article from January that summarizes arguments Trump's attorney made to Judge Mehta. Mehta decided against Trump a few days ago, another loss from Trump who experienced a terrible week of legal setbacks. Trump claims absolute immunity in attempt to toss January 6 suits from Democrats, Capitol Police officers excerpt: "Mehta pressed Binnall on how far the boundaries of presidential immunity extend and where to draw the line, asking whether there was "anything a president could say or do in his capacity as a candidate that would not receive immunity?" Binnall said he could not think of an example and instead argued the appropriate remedy for Trump's actions surrounding January 6 was impeachment, which was pursued by the House and ended with his acquittal by the Senate. "They don't get another bite at the apple with these questions," he said, adding that executive immunity "must be broad.""
Like Trump, Mo Brooks who spoke at Trump's rally on the Ellipse is trying to avoid being held accountable. Mehta's decision was a loss for both of them. Brooks also lost when the DOJ said it wouldn't defend him. Brook had asked for the DOJ to defend him as a member of Congress against civil suits related to the Ellipse rally, claiming he was acting in his capacity as a member of Congress when he helped incite a riot.

Trump blames 'radical leftist racists'. Now Trump Says His Accounting Firm Was 'Broken' By 'Radical Leftist' Racists excerpt: "President Donald J. Trump: “My long-term accounting firm didn’t leave me for any other reason than they were harassed, abused, and frightened by DA’s and AG’s that for years have been threatening them with indictment and ruination. They were “broken” by these Radical... pic.twitter.com/cdcSeZENDl — Liz Harrington (@realLizUSA) February 20, 2022 It ducked out of its relationship with Trump as the attorney general investigates whether Trump inflated asset values to obtain bank loans and entice investors, and reduced values to lower tax bills."
Trump needs to get on the same page as his attorneys. Now Trump Says His Accounting Firm Was 'Broken' By 'Radical Leftist' Racists excerpt: "Trump also claimed in his first, lengthy statement about Mazars’ defection last Tuesday that the company had been “threatened” and “intimidated” by James’ office to back away from his business. He went on at length to discuss his own company’s finances and financial practices. The statement complicated legal issues for him. Just the day before, his attorneys had argued that Trump knows virtually nothing about the financial details of his own company, and therefore, could hardly be held accountable for practices being investigated by James."
Fiona Hill says that Trump emboldened Putin to invade Ukraine by treating the country like a 'playground' excerpt: "Hill recalled Trump's praise for Russia's authoritarian leader, Vladimir Putin, as well as his disdain for NATO. She also mentioned his campaign to pressure Ukraine for manufactured dirt about Biden in the run-up to the 2020 election. The Ukraine pressure campaign saw Trump threaten to withhold military aid from the nation, which led to his first impeachment. "All this did was say to Russia that Ukraine was a playground," Hill said, drawing a direct line to events today, as Russia has amassed a huge military force around Ukraine, prompting fears in the US and European countries that a military strike is imminent."
Capitol rioter gets lighter sentence for cooperating with January 6 committee excerpt: "When issuing her sentence, Howell said Schornak's behavior was "not a garden-variety episode of unlawful entry," and she was concerned that Schornak "took a selfie with a fellow rioter." But the judge sentenced Schornak to 30 days in jail and two months in home confinement, far short of the sentence prosecutors recommended. During the proceedings, Howell made multiple references to Schornak's cooperation with the January 6 committee as a reason for her decision. "To his credit, defendant cooperated with law enforcement after his arrest. And, to my mind, [he's] gone further in expressing remorse by taking the concrete action of speaking with investigators of the House select committee, to help them understand the full scope of how that day happen," Howell said. "I will give him credit for that. I think that type of cooperation is helpful to this country. And it's helpful for making amends for what occurred on January 6, to the extent that the House select committee is able to be successful.""
Opinion | With Biden standing firm, Putin must wonder: Where’s Trump when I need him? By Eugene Robinson, Columnist February 21, 2022 at 4:17 p.m. EST https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...ine-biden-strength-putin-must-long-for-trump/ excerpt: "You will recall that Trump spoke admirably of Putin as “a tough cookie.” At a meeting in Helsinki in 2018, Trump famously took Putin’s word over that of the U.S. intelligence community on the question of interference in our 2016 election. “President Putin says it’s not Russia,” Trump said. “I don’t see any reason why it would be.” You will also recall that Trump’s posture toward NATO was to hector the allies for not spending enough on defense, leaving the United States to bear a disproportionate burden in funding Europe’s defense. This critique is not without merit — Biden, too, wants rich and powerful alliance members such as Germany and Canada to spend more. But remember how haughtily Trump lorded it over the other NATO leaders at summit meetings — and imagine him now trying to hold the alliance together in the face of Putin’s threat to Ukraine. And recall how Trump tried to extort a bogus investigation of Biden from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — which led to Trump’s first impeachment. Contrast that with how Biden and his team have sought to bolster the inexperienced Zelensky through this crisis, including a face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Vice President Harris on Saturday in Munich."
The Supreme Court just rejected Trump again. Anytime Trump thinks he is above the law, he'll get the same results. Future appeals based on his belief that he cannot be prosecuted will fall on deaf ears. If it is about taking classified material, or bank fraud, Trump needs to understand his luck has run out. I predict he will get a prison cell.
