Evangelical Trump supporters hark back to the good old days that weren’t

    http://religionnews.com/2017/07/24/...s-hark-back-to-the-good-old-days-that-werent/

    excerpts:

"(RNS) — I am constantly asked why in last year’s presidential election 81 percent of white conservative Christians voted for Donald Trump, a thrice-married, self-proclaimed womanizer whose personal behavior, religious practices and lifestyle are far different than the majority of evangelical churchgoers. The answer is not hard to find.

Trump’s winning mantra — “Make America Great Again” — was congruent with a wishful return to the Protestant hegemony that once existed in the United States back in the Eden-like “good old days.”"

"In the 2016 election that mythical time of pristine American “greatness” was invoked for millions of voters, many of them evangelical Christians who believed America had been “stolen” from them. They voted to “take back” America, and the past ills, inequities and wretched economic conditions were conveniently erased from their collective memories. In place of historical reality was a hazy image of a lost innocent America, and a desperate craving to make our nation “great again.”

Many members of Trump’s political “base” have not come to terms with the challenges of the modern world: rapid scientific advances especially in bioethics, growing religious indifference among millions of fellow Americans, the rapidly changing ethnic, racial and religious demographics in the U.S., and, of course, the reality of climate change.

Many evangelical voters suffer a sense of political bereavement, the death of a once great “Christian America.” When the mourning for a lost America is combined with religious rage and spiritual certitude, it is a potent combination that astute politicians like Donald Trump can harness to their electoral advantage."

OK here's the deal. Keep on topic. Off topic rants will get moved to a different thread, or forum... this isn't random thoughts. And that includes rants about racism... the topic of this thread says clearly 'The Donald Trump Scorecard.'

A U.S. district judge has ruled that DACA must stay in force while litigation proceeds against Trump's policy of rescinding the program.

Trump's bipartisan meeting yesterday on immigration ended in confusion as he contradicted himself and didn't know what a "clean bill" was.

A weekend at Camp David can work wonders.

After the Bannon debacle, Trump now wants to show he is stable, consistent, competent, compassionate, and a real problem solver. So he met with members of Congress to prove it in a reality TV style urgent meeting starring Trump himself.

Trump: We need a 'clean' bill, but one that must includes his border wall. No wall, no DACA. Can you say 'ransom'? I thought so.

Trump: The U.S. taxpayers will fund it, the one I said Mexico would fund. Use ransom on the U.S. taxpayers, not Mexico.

Trump: It's a wall of love to our neighbors. Well, not love. More like resentment.

Trump: It's a wall. Well, not a wall. Maybe a fence. Well, not exactly a fence. A broken fence. Well, not a broken fence. Maybe some sticks in the ground. Whatever. As long as we get $20 billion in U.S. taxpayer dollars for it and some unemployed coal miners to build it who I can stiff later.

Trump: Maybe we should go back to earmarks, adding money onto a main bill for special interests. That's not exactly a clean bill. More like a dirty one. Well, not exactly dirty. Maybe a simple clean bill now and a promised comprehensive dirty one later.

Trump: What were we talking about? Anyone want to go out and get some Big Macs and young women?

Tune in next week for another fun-filled confusing epsode of The Apprentice President.

I was thinking that maybe we could built a wall across the entire southern border...maybe 1 inch high. So Trump would get his way and his base would be happy. I was considering Legos, but they're made in Denmark.
So maybe Lincoln Logs. But Trump probably won't go for that as they were made in China for 60 years until Obama brought them back to Burnham, Maine.

Here's my conception of a nice little wall in front of a border check point.

I'm thinking of entering it into Trump's border wall contest. Hope I'm not too late.

Trump is making an exception for Florida, after the Republican governor said he did not want oil drilling off Florida's shores, after Trump made it available. Now all coastal states are open to Trump's drilling buddies, except Florida? How interesting?

I wonder what Trump now thinks about the Russia Dossier? After reading it? Would he read it? Would he have Ivanka or Melania read it for him?

A U.S. Senate seat and the governorship in Florida are up for election in 2018

Republican Governor Rick Scott can't run for reelection in 2018 because of term limits. He may challenge Democrat Bill Nelson for the U.S. Senate seat.

Trump opened up another can of worms for himself by being impulsive about offshore oil drilling, retroactively playing favorites with Florida, and then facing requests from other states to be exempt from drilling.

After Florida Gets Offshore Drilling Exemption, Other States Ask For The Same

"From Oregon to South Carolina, governors and other leaders are publicly noting that Florida does not have a monopoly on picturesque coasts, tourist economies or local opposition to offshore drilling. But currently, it's the only state to have received a pledge from the administration that it won't be considered for new oil and gas platforms."

Trump is now very angry with Feinstein because of the Russian Dossier release and at the same time he is saying he will not sit for an interview with Mueller? Boy, he's really looking good now!

Most Trump/Pence supporters are under-educated delusional Bible Belt folks who cling to their guns. They think you have to be "borned" right here and everyone else needs to leave, including the Messkins and Ayraabs. That is the voter who Trump and Pence sold the Conservative vision for America. And Gingrich has been keeping silent about that old contract with America...you know: the Constitution.

I gurentee if a qualified psychologist said the same thing about Obama he would have a guest spot on Fox that week. Even if 100 other psychologists came forward to say we do not agree Fox would zero in on that one guy. Just like the right zeros in one the one scientist paid to say global warming is not real. They say they have an expert backing it up. Well there is not backlash among psychiatrists they agree Trump is unstable.

The ICE agents are raiding 711 stores and arresting hourly wage immigrants for deportation. Trump wants that tough on darkies image. He does not want anyone to know about his revolving door corporate crime program, where he pardons corporate criminals for hiring such illegal alien workers, or undocumented workers. Trump thinks documented rich criminals are better than the poor one yearning to breath free at the 711 store.

Trump and Barr singing the national anthem together would be interesting. To mimic baseball players, Barr grabbed her own crotch at the end of the song. With Trump by her side, she wouldn't have to.
