Trump’s rough day hints at limits of his power over GOP

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON — For someone his political party still can’t quit, Donald Trump sure had a rough day on Tuesday.

The House’s Jan. 6 committee heard testimony from the Capitol police who fought with rioters on that day, with excommunicated Republican Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Il., taking starring roles on the committee.

Notably, Trump didn’t comment on yesterday’s testimony (but he did fire off statements on masks, crime and the Ohio-15 special election).

Then Trump’s endorsed candidate in Texas' 6th Congressional District — Republican Susan Wright — lost to fellow Republican Jake Ellzey, demonstrating the limits to a Trump endorsement, even in a low-turnout runoff. (George P. Bush, you can breathe a sigh of relief.)

And as of publication time, Trump hadn’t commented on that setback, either.

Since Trump left office and especially after Jan. 6, Republican leaders have tried different ways to deal with the former president.

They’ve appeased him, traveling to Mar a Lago or Bedminster to break bread with him. They’ve tried to sidestep questions about him. And they’ve warned about what might happen to the party if they lose Trump’s base of voters.

But they’ve never to tried to marginalize a former president who, it turns out, doesn’t have as much power as they think he does."

    Mask wars resume.

Trump and DeSantis choose politics over science as mask wars roar back to life

    excerpt:

"And in another high-profile clash, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is presiding over his state's explosion of Covid-19 cases, moved into conflict with President Joe Biden, resisting new CDC recommendations for masking in schools.

The showdown not only augured a new struggle between science and politics -- a disconnect that has plagued efforts to beat the worst public health crisis in 100 years. It also unleashed a face-off with extra partisan dimensions since it could preview a possible 2024 presidential election duel between DeSantis and Biden.

The latest GOP attacks were deeply ironic. Had more Republican leaders prioritized public health over politics and urged their voters to get vaccinated, the surge in new cases would likely have been avoided -- meaning no reintroduction of measures to stem an again-accelerating pandemic."

Capitol riot arrest of restaurant owner rattles hometown

    excerpt:

"A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that 81% of Democrats say it’s “extremely” or “very” important that investigations continue into what happened during the Capitol breach, but just 38% of Republicans say the same.

Bauer was arrested in May along with Blauser, a Vietnam War veteran and retired mail carrier. Surveillance video shows the two of them entering the Capitol through an east Rotunda door where at least three police officers were trying to block entry. Video from a police officer’s body camera captured Bauer saying to bring out Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the House.

“Bring them out now. They’re criminals. They need to hang,” she said."

Bauer went into the Capitol illegally and wanted Pelosi hanged.

Capitol riot arrest of restaurant owner rattles hometown

    excerpt:

"Even so, some in Kane have stood by Bauer, who insists her actions haven’t cost her any friendships or harmed her business. On a recent Wednesday evening, tables at her restaurant were filled by her regular customers.

“She’s a human being who stood up for her rights. She should have a right to stand up for what she believes in,” said Glenn Robinson, 68."

Former New York state Senate Libertarian candidate arrested on Trump Capitol riot charges

Published Wed, Jul 28 20211:19 PM EDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/28/new...e-arrested-on-trump-capitol-riot-charges.html

    excerpt:

"Brooklyn, New York, plumber who ran as a Libertarian candidate for the New York state Senate last fall was arrested Wednesday by the FBI at his home for invading the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot with a mob of Trump supporters.

The 38-year-old defendant, Daniel Christmann, posted photos and videos from inside the Capitol that day on his Instagram account, which has the handle “dannyforsenate,” according to a filing in Brooklyn federal court. Two people tipped off authorities about those Instagram posts, that filing said.

Surveillance video images show Christmann outside and inside the Capitol as well, the filing revealed.

In one such image, Christmann is seen “speaking or shouting” while standing in a crowd outside the Capitol in front of law-enforcement officers lined up to prevent people in the mob from getting inside, the filing said."

Another arrest of a Trump protester made possible by people in the general public who were observant about social media posts.

    Bauer runs a pizza shop.

With Bauer's mindset, she could offer her customers Pelosi Pepperoni Pizza in a box showing Pelosi being hanged.

It's the effects of years of his drug abuse. How this ex crackhead ever made it big in the business world is so far beyond comprehension. My guess is that it's daddy's old money, like Donnie's.

Trump tries to sabotage the Biden infrastructure deal

    excerpt:

"Tump tried his hand at several junctures to get his own infrastructure bill passed. As a candidate, he pitched a nearly $1 trillion infrastructure plan to improve America’s roads and bridges and create new jobs. But once he was in office, the self described dealmaker came to realize the trickiness of negotiating a massive spending package in Washington, and he repeatedly sabotaged his own efforts to reach a deal by spinning off track with self-inflicted political controversies. At one point, Trump and Democratic leadership seemed poised to agree on a $2 trillion infrastructure package but then weeks later, any hope for a deal fell apart in a dramatic Oval Office eruption between Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over House investigations."

'Dealmaker' Trump will sabotage a $2 trillion deal that would have politically helped himself, his party, and his constituents for the sake of trying to win a personal ego battle with someone he doesn't like.

He's a former crackhead turned millionaire, and he needs something to grasp onto no matter how farfetched or crazy it may seem.

Something to distract from that little voice coming from his crackpipe telling him to "Free your mind and your ass will follow, the kingdom of heaven is within"

While on their way to the airport, Trump canceled the Air Force flight for Pelosi and a bipartisan Congressional delegation to visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan because he was upset about Pelosi telling him that it wasn't appropriate to do the State of the Union address during the federal government shutdown that Trump caused by trying to force Congress to make U.S. taxpayers pay for his border wall (that he had said Mexico would finance).

Pelosi had the power to decline Trump's visit to Congress to give the SOTU address.

Trump shot himself in the foot again and further damaged his relations with active U.S. troops and veterans (which various polls verified as his term ensued and support dwindled due to his other dumb moves) because he felt his perceived infinite authority had been usurped by Pelosi.

The Pentagon withheld the National Guard, just to make it clear they are not interfering in what Americans call "politics" these days. If someone blew up the entire supreme court, republicans would declare war on taxes, because war is all they know.
