Article from February 2018. President Trump rejects bipartisan immigration efforts, compounding Senate bills on DACA By Bill Lambrecht, Washington Bureau Feb. 14, 2018 Updated: Feb. 14, 2018 7:02 p.m. President Trump rejects bipartisan immigration efforts, compounding Senate bills on DACA excerpt: "WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump rejected bipartisan efforts to address immigration Wednesday, compounding efforts by the Senate to reach agreement in a week set aside to solve the crisis facing so-called Dreamers. In a new bipartisan deal taking shape, some Democrats appeared ready to give the president the $25 billion he wants for a border wall in exchange for restoring protections for young undocumented immigrants set to expire with the Trump-ordered end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. But the president’s demand that Republicans heed his criteria for any legislation he would sign, including dramatic cuts in legal immigration, created new doubts about whether the Senate could reach consensus."
Trump has become desperate for Latino votes as the election approaches. Polls are showing that he and Biden are even in Texas, a state with 38 electoral votes. Trump is losing to Biden in Florida, another critical swing state. Trump tries to woo Latino voters, but some see an empty gesture Many condemned his recent executive order to boost Hispanic opportunities and blasted the Goya CEO and other Trump supporters. By Juliana Jiménez J., Noticias Telemundo July 10, 2020, 3:21 PM EDT Trump tries to woo Latino voters, but some see an empty gesture excerpts: "President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday with the goal of expanding job and educational opportunities as he seeks Latino support, about 100 days before the November elections. The executive order aims to return to the economic levels prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, when unemployment nationwide, and for Latinos in particular, was among the lowest on record. Since the growing coronavirus pandemic began in March, both the economy and Trump's approval have plummeted. The Administration created the so-called "White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative" that includes promoting "private sector initiatives and public-private partnerships to improve access to educational and economic opportunities for Hispanic Americans. But the president's opponents viewed the order as an "empty gesture."" "Among Latinos, Trump has a disapproval rate of 69 percent, according to the Pew Research Center, and two-thirds of them say they support his Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden. About one-third of Latinos (32 percent) say they support the President."
Goya Foods has experienced a backlash. Trump tries to woo Latino voters, but some see an empty gesture excerpt: "Boycott backlash over Goya's Trump support Some Latinos businessmen who support Trump met with him at the White House on Thursday as he signed the executive order. Among these was Goya President Robert Unanue, whose lavish praise of Trump drew fierce backlash and became a Twitter trend on Thursday. "We are truly blessed to have a leader like President Donald Trump, who is a builder. And that's what my grandfather did, he came to this country to build, to grow, to prosper," said Unanue. "So, we have an amazing builder (points to the president) and we pray for our leaders, for our president, and we pray for our country, that it continues to prosper.""
Shocking, the millitary style, shock & awe storming of Roger Stones house. For lying. just chilling that the Gvmt. can throw those resources at you, for lying
Typical of you. You support Trump commuting the sentence of his buddy, a man who was convicted of seven felonies committed to protect Donald Trump, by an impartial jury, including a murder threat. You support a felon and Trump, a man who benefited from those acts of felony. The Trump mafia at its best. Trump and his friends exist in one system in which court rulings, jury trials, evidence, and facts don't matter.....the rest of us another. Assange is in deep shit. Julian Assange is facing 17 new criminal charges
Over 69,000 new coronavirus cases in the U.S. Friday, another record high. Trump and the following will say it's due to increased testing of Trump's claimed best testing machine in the world that he supposedly built. Governor Abbott of Texas says a lockdown will be needed if cases continue to rise.
Texas governor warns of possible lockdown if Texans don't start wearing face masks By Sophie Lewis July 10, 2020 / 9:44 PM / CBS News Texas governor warns of possible lockdown if Texans don't start wearing face masks excerpt: "As coronavirus cases in Texas continue to skyrocket, Governor Greg Abbott warned Friday that he may have to implement a lockdown if the numbers don't come down. The governor has reiterated several times this week that his statewide mask order must be followed. "The worst is yet to come as we work our way through that massive increase in people testing positive," Abbott told CBS News affiliate KLBK-TV. "The only way that we can keep our businesses open, the only way that we can continue to have a job they need to pay their bill is for everyone to adopt this practice of wearing a face mask." In Texas, the number of coronavirus patients who are hospitalized has quadrupled in the last month to nearly 10,000, CBS News' Mireya Villarreal reported. The state surpassed 240,000 confirmed cases on Friday, and has seen more than 3,000 deaths."
Abbott and Trump are in a dog-chasing-tail mindset. Abbott says he is upset that Texas sheriffs aren't enforcing his social distancing orders. Trump has been encouraging groups that do not abide by social distancing guidelines and criticized executive orders of governors as being overreach. Yet Abbott thanks Trump for sending in federal aid to try to deal with the surge in coronavirus cases caused in part by the dismissive attitudes and behavior of Trump and sheriffs.
Texas governor warns of possible lockdown if Texans don't start wearing face masks excerpt: "Last week, Abbott reversed his stance and made masks mandatory statewide. He also limited gatherings of more than 10 people. On Monday, Abbott blasted local leaders for how they have reacted to his order, after a growing number of state sheriffs refused to enforce it. "All of those local officials who are asking Texas to shut back down — they've absolutely refused to enforce the current executive orders that are already in place," he told CBS News affiliate KFDM. "What they need to show is action, not absenteeism. They need to show up, enforce the law as it is, before they're given any further authority. They ask for more and more, but they do absolutely nothing.""
It's another example of Trump puncturing the tractor tires with the farmer's pitchfork and handing him a free tire pump.
Trump refuses to dump Kushner no matter how bungled his actions and statements. The coronavirus is what's rocking again. Kushner made a rare appearance at one of Trump's coronavirus briefings (campaign events) with statements that left everyone puzzled. Jared Kushner said the US would be 'really rocking again' by July. 7 states are shutting back down, and new COVID-19 cases have set records 6 times in July's first 10 days. Jake Lahut July 10, 2020 Jared Kushner said the US would be 'really rocking again' by July. 7 states are shutting back down, and new COVID-19 cases have set records 6 times in July's first 10 days. excerpt: "Kushner has been sparse in his TV appearances since April. That month, Americans polled by Insider rated Kushner dead last among 10 national leaders when it comes to who they trust on the coronavirus."
George Bush engaged in the same type of desperate behavior as Trump during the summer of 1992 when polls showed his reelection prospects fading due to the LA riots and a faltering economy, similar to Trump facing a general racial unrest and the coronavirus. Bush was claiming he was going to give numerous groups such as farmers billions of dollars of aid when the power to do such acts rests with Congress. A political humor TV show did a sketch that showed clips of Bush promising money to various groups to the background music "Here Comes Santa Claus." Bush wasn't reelected.
Kushner Puts Himself in Middle of White House’s Chaotic Coronavirus Response President Trump’s son-in-law has become a central player in the administration’s effort to curb the pandemic. But critics say he is part of the problem. By Peter Baker, Maggie Haberman, Zolan Kanno-Youngs and Noah Weiland April 2, 2020 Kushner Puts Himself in Middle of White House’s Chaotic Coronavirus Response excerpt: "Some officials said Mr. Kushner had mainly added another layer of confusion to that response, while taking credit for changes already in progress and failing to deliver on promised improvements. He promoted a nationwide screening website and a widespread network of drive-through testing sites. Neither materialized. He claimed to have helped narrow the rift between his father-in-law and General Motors in a presidential blowup over ventilator production, one administration official said, but the White House is still struggling to procure enough ventilators and other medical equipment. Perhaps most critical, neither Mr. Kushner nor anyone else can control a president who offers the public radically different messages depending on the day or even the hour, complicating the White House’s effort to get ahead of the crisis. One moment Mr. Trump is talking about reopening the country by Easter, the next he is warning of more than 100,000 deaths. In the afternoon, he threatens to quarantine tens of millions of people in the Northeast, then in the evening he backs down."
Gov. Inslee of Washington state told Trump to quit making threats and do his job. Trump is now threatening to eliminate tax exempt status of schools that he claims are indoctrinating young people with radical left ideas as a way of retaliating for schools that don't conform to his demands to reopen. Inslee: Trump threats to withhold school funding are 'hogwash' by Keith Eldridge | KOMO News Thursday July 9th 2020 https://komonews.com/news/coronavir...eats-to-withhold-federal-dollars-from-schools excerpt: "OLYMPIA, Wash. - Gov. Jay Inslee says the threat out of the White House to withhold federal dollars from schools is ‘hogwash.’ The Trump Administration sent shockwaves through the country when it announced it wanted schools to fully open in the Fall with all kids back in their classrooms. Inslee says that is unwise and unsafe. He says the plans are still in the works at each school district, but it appears there will be options for parents and their kids. They can have a hybrid of some in-school class time and some on-line. Or they can have fulltime on-line learning. He called the threats just another attempt at bullying by the President. He also lashed out at the President in a Tweet Thursday morning regarding the shortage of PPEs across the country. He Tweeted, “Health care workers should never be in this position and the solution is as clear now as it was five months ago. Do your job @RealDonaldTrump. Invoke the Defense Production Act.”"
Roger Stone: Trump spares ex-adviser from prison, sparking critics' anger BBC News July 11, 2020 Trump spares ex-adviser Roger Stone from prison excerpt: "It's hard to say the president's decision to grant clemency to his long-time friend and political counsellor is surprising, but it's still jarring. Even though the president has called the special counsel investigation that prosecuted Stone a sham and a partisan witch hunt, Stone was duly convicted of serious crimes. Meanwhile, Stone's active lobbying for a commutation, recently saying that he could have "easily" turned on the president to avoid trial, was unseemly at best. Mr Trump is not the first president to issue controversial pardons or commutations for friends and associates, of course. Most of his predecessors, however, waited until the last days of their presidency to take such actions, as they knew the political firestorms they would generate. Mr Trump, on the other hand, seems to relish the controversy. Like much of his time in office, his actions are done with an eye toward a base that views instigating political opponents as an end to itself."
Attorney General Barr intervened and helped reduce Stone's sentence from 7 to 9 yeas down to about 3 years. In spite of that, Trump still commuted the sentence, making Barr's unsavory intervention superfluous. It would have been better if Barr hadn't intervened which needlessly smeared his own reputation by adding more evidence that he is a cohort of Trump. Barr's intervention also caused the Stone prosecution team within the DOJ to resign.
