But he was in Batman Begins, so they couldn't really change him.

As with comic book movies, they don't stick too closely to the comics.

I loved this movie and thought the new Joker was great. Nothing but violence, etc. The Joker is the complete opposite from Batman, but on the same spectrum, in that they are both crazy.

Nicholsan's Joker is pretty much what the Joker is. This new Joker is just straight anarchy without a real funny side. But I like both.

There's a phrase that I really like: "Heath actually danced with the devil, while Jack only talked about it". With Heath, I saw The Joker. I saw the embodiment of comic book evil, I saw him alive and full on the screen and it was amazing. With Jack, well it was just Jack dressed up like a clown. It was a good performance, but pales to Heath.

yeah but the movie, as I remember, wasn't as dark as this one and it's not really the same character because I don't think Jack's was supposed to be creepy in the same way.

I liked the movie btw, it was long but didn't drag or anything, it had a flow through out the whole thing. there are a few slight things I'd change but not enough to say it wasn;t a good movie or anything.

I thought the movie was awesome! It made me sad that Heath Ledger won't be able to make anymore movies. :(

I really enjoyed it, i saw it twice..the second time i saw it, it was even better than the first. Heath Ledger did an amazing job playing the joker. Overall the movie was well done, and exciting to watch..i hope to god they come out with a 3rd one, though it will be hard for Nolan to top the Dark Knight.

I agree with many of the other posters. Heath Ledger absolutely stole the show with his performance as the Joker. The action scenes were really cool, too.

My only two complaints would be Batman's voice (i.e. cheesy) and that the movie was a little long.

Overall, the movie was extremely well done.

I havn't got to see batman begins but as for the dark knight I found it to be very good. Personally I'd have to say its better than any of the former batman movies I've seen. Ledger was wonderful, Batman was done almost perfectly (personally I saw nothing wrong with his voice) and Twoface was very impressive as well. Although one part of it that I didn't like was how they portrayed him as dead at the end. Granted if they follow the comics its likely he's not. So I guess we'll see.

When I saw this movie the first time, I really didnt get it, but I liked how the scenes kept you focused. I was amazed about the Joker and Batman and how they played such an amazing role. I didnt know who I liked better!

So i went last night to see it again becAuse I couldnt stop talking about it, and I got it the 2nd time and still they both amaze me at what they did. I loved the part where the joker was talking about his wife and she punches him and he likes a little fight blah blah and then you hear batman "then you'll love me" lol that was so so cool and sexy at the same time. I liked batman's voice, christian played a good role. but it is going to be extremely sad when they make new ones without heath in them. heath was one of my favorite actors but im glad in a way that he died playing a role and a movie that he'd be more known for than brokeback mountain

I'd been waiting for this for so long. Batman Begins completely changed how I viewed both comic book movies (even after others like Spiderman) and obviously the whole Batman franchise.

I thought it entirely lived up to the hype. After so many years of terrible films someone had to get it right, and I think Nolan conquered almost everything that has come out recently. Ledger obviously stole the show, though. He did great work in Brokeback, etc, but I still can't get over how lush his Joker was. He was on my radar before, but I'm going to have to move someone off my top 5 list now. It took me 2 viewings to wrap my mind around the character enough to worry about the fact that they made the Joker pretty humor free. I have no trouble forgiving him.

I think Bale is a good fit for Batman; probably the best so far IMO. Clooney did ok, but was hampered by how awful everything else in his movie was. Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer just didn't click with me. I don't find any issue with Bale's Batman voice and his suave Bruce Wayne always expertly hints at his duality. Clooney screwed that up and Keaton did it well, but the darkness Nolan gave back to the franchise gives Bale another facet to polish: the ever present sadness Wayne feels in giving up so much of his life to Batman.

The rest of the supporting cast was stong. I'm glad Gary Oldman got more screen time. He's great in everything and Gordon is a good character for him. Michael Caine is fantastic as Alfred. I think he has amazing chemistry on screen with Bale. Maggie Gyllenhaal did about as good a job as Katie Holmes (ie, good but paling in comparison to pretty much everyone else). Aaron Eckhart has a lot of talent and I can't think of anyone who could play the good guy Dent role better (which made the Two-Face conversion even more authentic). Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors, but I think he just doesn't get enough screen time to make a great character.

If I had to pick out one flaw I would argue that the entire Two Face arc was unnecessary. I'm not saying it could just be taken out without damaging the whole film, I just think that the importance they gave it in the story didn't justify the briefness of the whole thing or the breakup of pace. They could have brought him around earlier (which I think might have undermined the importance of the joker), left him for the next movie (as I thought they would going in), or found a way around the whole thing.

I'll buy as soon as I can, but I'll avoid paying full price if at all possible. As much as I loved Begins, I don't hesitate to say I think TDK is better.
    3 DVDs.

Thanx for this very thorough review. You apparently know a lot about the whold Batman franchise.

I agree with your assessment of Twoface. I was unaware that he was an established character in the comix and as such should have escaped as a teaser for another sequel. His appearance was entirely too late in the movie and too brief.

It was a good movie, but I thought Begins was a lot better by far. The direction and script didn't seem as good compared to begins, in a lot of ways it looked amateurish, pacing was a little off as well. I also thought it was too long, and didn't give enough attention to the characters, I felt like it almost could have been two batman movies in one.

I think they should have just focused on the Joker and saved two-face for the next movie. The music wasn't that great either, mostly just reworked tunes from Begins, which was awesome, but a lot more powerful in the first one. It was an entertaining movie, but it wasn't as brilliant or as well done as Begins, best part about it was Heath's Joker.

I am sure Heath Ledger will get an Oscar for his role as The Joker because people are sheep. Heath stole the show because he was surrounded by at best, mediocre actors. Who do you think while working with, gave Heath a bigger boner, Jake or Maggie? Oh and the old bat suit it could protect him from bullets, but it couldn't protect him from dog bites? Batman can fight off several guys, but not dogs. I have an idea for Batman III the villian could be a toy poodle. How do you drive a bus into a bank in broad daylight, and nobody notices? Also you can drive right out into a bus line. I could go on for hours, but why. If the majority of people think it's great then it must be.

Pretty much only what's in the movies. The only one I haven't seen at least most of is Batman Returns, so I missed Nicholson's Joker. I need to get on that, but I put it off because I didn't particularly like the previous Burton version.

When heard he was going to be in it I immediately assumed he'd be introduced but escape. When Dent is in the hospital bed and they refrained from showing the other side of his face for so long I felt even more sure we wouldn't really see him until the next movie, so when he finally turned his head I was disappointed they were just going to throw him in at the end and most likely kill him off.
