Here in Oregon marijuana is not only legal but the dispensaries are still open during the pandemic because it's considered an essential service. All those years we fought to make pot legal, but essential? Holy shit, we've made it! The rest of the country must legalize it now! It's essential!

Yeah... except in Ohio it is essentially the devil's weed.

Marijuana dispensaries here in Massachusetts are also considered essential but sales are still way down during this pandemic.

Funny, sales have remained pretty stable here. Some people are laying off the weed during the pandemic, others are getting high more than ever in order to cope with it all. Personally I'm smoking less and doing edibles more, trying to keep my lungs healthy.

I used to do edibles every night. Same reasoning too. I didn't want to smoke anything. Now I lay off everything anyway.

Yes, 33mg. I remember that dosage... :sunglasses: :D

I'm starting to re-think this. My brother was able to call her on Mother's Day, had some difficulty getting through, and the staff there had to put his call on speakerphone so she could talk to him. She barely spoke and he believes she no longer knows who he is.

So now I wonder, would it be better to die from coronavirus than from dementia? At least with the virus death would come within a few days and she'd be unconscious and on a respirator until she dies in her sleep. But dementia would be longer and drawn out, it's already pretty advanced and eventually she'd be a vegetable, unable to speak or move without assistance. Years ago she signed a living will stating not to put her on life support, but until she's actually dying it doesn't apply. I'm forced to wish that the end comes soon somehow.

i understand the difficulty, even though i don't personally experience it. but my mom did. she grew up in a city, like i suppose most people have now.
i grew up in a different kind of a situation where i was by myself most of the time, except for going to school of course.

so yah, i feel sorry for people who are feeling frustrated, and i'm just really thankful, that i have a way of looking at things where it doesn't bother me that much,
but even so, i know i need to get out more often and get some exercise. i didn't do nearly enough of that before, and of course now, i do even less.

well now i'm, 72 years and one day, sometime today i have to go to the store again, because i can only carry home enough groceries to last me a week and a half at most,
and i'm down to almost nothing again. so in a way, its nice to get out and ride the bus, and enjoy a pretty day,
and at the same time knowing, there is a relatively small, but very real risk, every time i do.

the masks that i have are not new. i bought them before this thing hit, when they were 2 for 99cents. now i see where the chapest is like six bux each and some places are even charging 20.
i have one i haven't used yet. i'm saving it because, well you just don't know. all this stuff about the economy, and the health thing hasn't gone away and it is still getting worse.

I went on one of my city bus rides the other day. They now require all riders to wear a face covering, and they supply masks to anyone who doesn't have one. I took the liberty of taking a couple of them home with me.

Things are starting to loosen up. In some of the less populated sections of Portland they allow salons to reopen. Before you get a haircut you have to use hand sanitizer, put on a mask and get a shampoo. I don't know if they charge for the shampoo since it's mandatory.

At one of my stops during the bus ride I went to eat at this Mexican restaurant, and the lady serving me asked, "For here or to go?" I said "Doesn't it have to be to go?" She told me I can eat at a table there, I don't know if the restriction was lifted in that part of town or if they were just breaking the law, but it was great to sit down inside. They didn't serve beer, but it was worth it.

I'm in Portland Oregon, part of Multnomah County. Yesterday the state voted not to go to phase 1 of reopening here. This is due to a resurgence in Covid 19 cases, not just here but around the country where there have been reopenings. Yes it's partly due to these protests where thousands of people are getting together, but also because it's apparent that this virus really hangs in there.

Here in the US about 117,000 people have died from it in just over 4 months despite the lockdown. Over 2 million Americans have been diagnosed with it, meaning there are likely 20 million who've contracted it but haven't been diagnosed, due to having no symptoms or mild symptoms. At this point the pandemic shows no signs of slowing down, let alone stopping.

Now doctors estimate that by September we could see 200,000 dead even if the hot summer weather slows it down; sounds like we could see half a million dead Americans if we don't come up with a vaccine soon.

Sorry to be so gloomy but that's the reality we're facing. I myself am just over 65 (I'm 66) so I am in a higher risk group. I did get a pneumonia shot back in October, and while it's not made for coronavirus pneumonia, doctors say you're less likely to get pneumonia from it if you've had the shot, but they can't tell you how much less likely.

Yes I'm bummed because we didn't reopen and I need to rant. I was hoping to sit in my neighborhood bar today, risking my life so I can have someone else fix my drink. I've concluded that I suck at mixing my own drinks and I've even started drinking wine. :confused2: This Sunday I believe I'll drive over to the next county with a couple friends and we'll hit the bars there.
