hey its me munk...anyway...where should i begin?..i started my dreads bout 2 years ago i tried a few different methods: first i tried twist and rip, did'nt work then i braided my hair to see if it would lock and grow into each other kinda helped but not really so i took them out,now after a few months i decided i would ask my neighbor who has had dreads for 6 years, after telling him my problem he told me to wash with beer and raw aloe for about half a month to make my hair dry and he toolk me to a salon where i got my hair back combed properly and everything, but i kinda kicked myself after when i found out i had to pay 350 dollars for it,had no choice so i did. so after i few more months i still had a lot of work to do,reason was:she didn't lock every single part up so there were some loops, which are fixed now and my dreads are much tighter, not completely strong yet,but getting there.oh yeah, she told me to use wax and i was all like fuck that,i'm going natural,so i am.

munky how did you 'fix' the loops? they are all part of the process! I have loops all over mine and love them. $350 is an insane amount of money though. geez! at least you didn't use wax

Nah man Jah Rastafari said that, I've got a book of all the quotes and speeches he made, its like 500 pages long and its so in-depth.

Some of the things he said are so amazing but you never get taught about them in school.

Okay Alex, sorry but its sounds more like YOU fucked up dreads not DHHQ. Never does DHHQ say not to wash your hair, not to keep reapplying wax, especially without washing, or to constantly re-back comb. And again after seeing those pics of you with wax slabbed all over your dreads I find it very hard to believe that you were using 1/5 the recommended amount. Mine certainly never looked like that...or maybe that was the PURE wax you had melted into your hair.

People dont like admitting that theyre wrong =]

however.. although i dont blame them, i dont understand why they push the product so much.. KBoy in particular sell so many other great items, so maybe they should lay off the wax.. my opinion like

I think the solution would be for them to make a product that does help with newly backcombed hair without all the residues and risks. I saw were DreadFX has a residue free wax, but I have never tried it.
I thought K-boys wax was hard to work with and really sucked to wash out. However their poo bars are awesome!

maybe if they had a real way to remove wax it would help?
i mean they do sell a wax remover to remove wax fr5om hands, but it says right on it (in small print) not strong enough to remove wax from dreads

i wouldnt care so much that they sell crap to gunk up dreads if theyd just sell something to remove it too (and admit that your better off without it to begin with)

I bet the folks are already in the lab looking into it with all the controversy going on. DHHQ did make a video, so they do realize there is a problem with overusing and removal.

I was thinking about that too. There prob are HQ and KB spies onthis forum. lol

Ok....so my journey started when I was 17. I knew nothing of dreads other than I wanted them. I went to a salon and had a woman back comb my hair. She did an amazing job but it cost ....hmmm....I dont fully remember...i think it was 200? She charged by the dread. Lame I know....if I wouldve done my research, I couldve done it myself...but whatev...you live and you learn. So, anyways....After that I sold everything I owned and hit the road. I lived out of my backpack and tent for almost a year. My goal was to hitchhike to NY...but uh....I made it to Arizona from Cali. lol. My dreads got pretty funkdified for I was homeless and had no shower. They were gorgeous and long though....midback. I tried getting a job in yosemite National park but they had a no dread policy....so I cut them off. I did it a. for the job, and b. I had some dreads fall out and it freaked me out! All in all I diidnt get the job...rawr. So then I went to the grand canyon in AZ and worked there for awhile.....got knocked up....came back to Cali. While prego, I had some complications and was ordered to bed rest. While on bed rest my hair started knotting up again. I shoulda let it go naturally but had nothing better to do and so obsessed over my hair. I backcombed and palm rolled. When my daughter was 1....I was engaged and to be married and decided I wanted a glam old school hollywood wedding and I wanted to look like Betty Davis, so I chopped them again. Well....in grande tradition of my life...the wedding fell through and we seperated. So once again I was left lonely and dreadless. lol. When my hair grew out, I attempted it yet again for the 3rd time....my hair was still pretty short though and so I used a lot of wax thinking it would help. It didnt. My hair was a short frizzy waxy mess. The dreads never dreaded...they just looked waxy and glued together....so after 4 months I brushed them out and waited a good year for my hair to repair itself. Which brings me up to now! I started naturally then backcombed some then twist and ripped some but never used wax. Im theee most happiest with my current set because Ive actually done my research this time and am taking very good care of my dreadies now. I plan on having these for the rest of my life.

great story mandy...so would u say your biggest mistake was not marrying me? heehee

the funny thing is if u saved the money from the salon you woulda dreaded easily while traveling, and had plenty of monety to afford showers at truck stops or campgrounds
