    I'm not bagging on all christians, all churches, or christianity itself.

    I'm bagging on closed mindedness from whatever direction it comes. Believe me there's alot on both sides of the issue.

    Jesus told his disciples to "spread the good news", the gospels, ie; his message.

    If he had just stood on a street corner in Jerusalem and said, "I am the way and the truth and the light, no man comes to the father except through me" and nothing else who would listen?

    If he poped out of nowhere one day and said, "Hi. My names Jesus. you have to believe I'm the son of god or you'll go to hell, have a nice day" who would have taken him seriously?

    What he said was "He who hears my words and does the will of the father will never taste death". Now that's a sales pitch. that would make me want to stop and at least hear what he had to say.

    He does have a point. Jesus never pointed fingers and went "You're a idiot for beliving in your God/Goddess...You are so dumb and i don't even know why you're dumb cause i don't know you but your GOING TO HELL YOU DUMB IDIOT"

    Yeah, that's true. Eventhough, he did call them fools, or atleast the father did.

    And Jesus tries to (still) get everybody saved.

    My biggest objection is this:
    there are alot of people pushing christianity who don't have the slightest idea what it's about. ie;
    never read the gospels, never investigated the history, pretty much blindly accepted whatever conclusions (dogma) their clergymen came up with without looking to see if it's in line with what Jesus himself is supposed to have said. Sometimes doing exactly what he told us not to do (and doing it all in his name).

    and...

    There are alot of people dismissing christianity who don't have the slightest idea what it's about. ie;
    never read the gospels, never investigated the history, pretty much blindly accepted whatever conclusions they're comforatable with whether they make sense or not (and doing it all in the name of reason).

    How can you go out and premote something if you don't know what it is?
    At the same time how can you deny something if you don't know what it is?

    now that I've got everyones attention I have a question....Jesus was sent to earth to teach a message obviously. The particular message that he taught was most fitting for the people and time that he was around. So is it at all possible that buddha was sent to teach a message that is appropriate for another group of people at another time.
    I mean everybody is different so everybody needs something different to get the message. Its kind of illogical that god sent jesus to earth and all the sudden there's this rule that you have to believe in him or go to hell...what about the rest of the world, word didn't travel then like it does now so it may have taken hundreds of years for the word of jesus to reach people...so was everyone condemned to hell then because they were unlucky enough to be born in the wrong part of the world at the wrong time? I dont' think so. So I guess I'm trying to say that they can both be great people teaching their own message to people in a way that will be best heard.

    also check the hindu thread, I left one there quite some time ago about jesus as well

    Let people wallow in their ignorance and egotism. *cough, "†"»AMBER«, cough*

    If that's the example they want to make for christianity, let em.

    well, shakyamuni buddha may have been canonized by the roman catholic church (well before the great schism of the 11th century if i am not mistaken) as saint jehosephat (yeah, as in "jumpin' jehosephat" ;) ...)

    ummm, not all christians are willfully ignorant...
    (anybody remember brother thomas merton wrintng about "mystics & zen masters" etc?)

    Just a thought or two,

    One who would fight about the Buddha would fight about anything.

    In a world of Buddhas, Christ doesn't have to suffer.

    Apologies, that was not directed at you specifically! ^_^ Your quote just got me thinking about it. =P

    Ryupower ... try as I might, I could not block the "ne" out of my mind.

    Nihongo hanashimasuka? =)

    While they do contradict eachother, they also ultimately come to similar conclusions on a variety of topics.

    I might argue that taking a plane is faster and safer than taking a train, but if we both end up at the same place ... does it matter? =)

    I have to say, if Jesus ever does come back to purge the world and save everyone, he should stick around a little while before he does that. He'd make one Hell (pun intended) of a killing as an advertising specialist. =D

    If they didn't know Jesus, then yes, they will be in hell. That's what I believe, and I will stick to it.
