Isn't it? In the Bible, it says, *respect all of God's creatures.* In my opinion, factory farming is NOT a form of respect, where these creatures' basic rights are discarded and they are grown just to be killed. It's ridiculous. I once had a Christian respond to the fact that I was vegan with "I'll stick to what the Bible says." I honestly could not come up with words that were respectful enough to warrant me making a counter-statement, because hers defied all logic, and I didn't want to insult the person (the mother of a close friend). Actually, we just wanted to know what Christians thought of the Buddha, and why. I don't think any of us expected Christians to have so much hate pent up for someone they know so little about. I think it is very funny ... many people supported the Crusades, and now support George Bush's unnecessary wars. And yet, you hate with a passion a man who lived for the sole purpose of finding a way to reduce all of the suffering in the world without raising a single open palm to strike another living being. How does that make sense? Good observation. Even if that is so ... why all the resentment towards Buddha? I bet Jesus and the Buddha may have disagreed on some things, but ultimately would have respected eachother's opinions enough to still be friends despite that. I only wonder why Christians and Buddhists have this same problem cooperating and getting along. It seems only to be grounded in stereotypes and misnomers. =( So, why all the contempt? I mean, you can believe in Buddhism and believe in Christianity at the same time! That shows that both groups aren't enemies by any means; rather, they are best suited to be allies. Alleviation of suffering on Earth, and existance in the afterlife in heaven.
i did some praying on this issue...and i take back my origional comments, in the first post in here..
I asked for examples to back up your statement that Buddha's agenda was completely different from Jesus'. How is this an answer to that? Other than to say "Stop thinking and just do what the bible tells you".
Of course, becuase anybody who asks questions about christianity instead of just accepting it blindly must be a tool of Satan working to premote the great anti-christian conspiracy.
Im sry, but you didnt write specificly, didnt you write: "Not forgetting them. Cabdirazzaq claimed that Jesus's "main goal" was the worship of one God. This was unessasary among the Jews, who were his primary audience, so how could it have been his "main goal" And I have already given examples, if we were to cover them all it would take days to write down...
that's not the quote you included in your response; [Originally Posted by NaykidApe Anyway Cabdirazag if you're going to make a claim how about giving us some examples? "Jesus answered, The foremost is, "HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'" This is the great teachings of this great man(didnt see him say worship me in there somewhere...)]
Oi! I never said i resented Buddha, I was just saying that given what the bible says I think the Jesus did more. I like Buddha and I understand what your getting at. I just think Jesus did more for man thats all.
Uh oh, I am in big trouble. But seriously folks, I am quite sure Jesus and Siddhartha (you know, The Christ and The Buddha) would have loved one another. But even more seriously, Buddha was a human being who gave the world a path to higher consciousness, a way to ease suffering (or to give it meaning), who preached compassion for all sentient life, and yes, he even spoke of loving your fellow human beings (read the Dhammapada). This is worthy of love and respect. If you really feel Buddha does not deserve the same love and respect that you yourself deserve, simply because you are human, then not only do you misunderstand Buddha, but you may also want to re-examine your understanding of Christianity, or call your faith by another name. I don't mean to pick on anyone, especially "†"»AMBER«, because far too many people are making this mistake these days. You were told to "Love God, Love your neighbor, Love your enemies." This is Christ's most important teaching. If this is not the heart of your faith, then Christianity is reduced to just another flag to rally around in just another game of "Us against Them." I can only hope you awaken from that delusion, as Buddha would say, or, as Christ would say, repent your sins (i.e. rethink your errors). Peace and Love . . . and Consciousness, for God's sake,
He was Deceived. And landed in hell (Amber, why couldn't you make it that simple? ). Let me guess, Tiki_god7, you read ' Buddha and Jesus', ne? Well, they cut off alot of stuff that contradicted each other. For one, they cut off parts of verses. But really, Buddha and Jesus aren't comparable, and they contradict each other all the time! (BTW: I didn't bother looking through the rest of the thread, since I believe it's nothing but a little flame war so far. )
I could see where it was going, already on the first page...so why bother? I may accidently get hung up on one's past comment, and start flaming myself! ^^;
So after skimming the first 10 posts in a thread of 73 posts (so far) you could already tell what everybody, including the people who hadn't posted yet, were going to say? Isn't this like the person who reads the first cpl pages of Genisis, throws the bible to the side and says "I could tell it was just a fairy tale so why bother"?
c'mon, man! I was just answering tiki's question. And I don't want to get into a fight with you about such a little thing! :H (hehe, you're 'jist lookin' for it, right? )
Why does it have to be a fight? I'm just asking you how you could know what something's about without loooking at it.
If you have the truth you missed a chance to teach. If you don't have the truth you missed a chance to learn.
and all in all...i think this thread was a quite good one compared to some in this part of the fora EDIT: hey ryu...havent seen you around in a while...how are you?
One of the things Jesus is supposed to have promised to his disciples was "The spirit of discernment", ie, the ability to distinquish truth. That being the case why be afraid of other beliefs? (people only attack something when they're afraid of it). Why be afraid of the devil himself? supposedly he has no power over believers. when Jesus was tempted by the devil he didn't attack him, he corrected him. Rather than saying "You'll burn in hell for this!" Jesus just turned around and quoted scripture at him. If people are lost you don't stand on a mountain and scream at them "you're lost you idiots!!" they already know that.
hmm...I'll check over it. lol, I haven't been here in a while? The last time I was her was two days ago. I'm fine, how are you? The TRUTH is Jesus, I know that. The part that confuses me is no. 1 : "If you have the truth you missed a chance to teach." How that? Must be a Buddha quote...:/
