Where are you getting this info from, though? I know two people out of hundreds I have talked to about this (besides online forums) that want this kind of stuff. In my experience, even people who are wary of guns think that it won't do shit to curb violence and that there are more important things the feds should be focused on.

Also, dealers at gun shows do have to run checks. Anyone who has a federal firearms license has to run a check when transferring any firearm. Around here the big gun shops are always at gun shows, pawn shops are there, etc. The only people not having to run checks are private citizens with a table set up selling their wares.

That is the only thing about this whole debate that I can even begin to agree with. And I still think even that is misguided and will prove ineffectual.

The main thing that needs to be addressed is pharm drugs being dispensed like something completely innocuous.

It would seem to me that anyone who wanted to obtain a gun for criminal purposes would not go to a gun shop or anywhere that would require a background check in order to make their purchase, but instead would look to make their purchase from someone who was willing to break the law and sell what they wanted without a background check, at a price making crime profitable considering the risk. Probably, many law abiding citizens would refrain from making gun purchases considering that doing so would provide government with more information about them which could be misused and as a consequence the effect on the criminal element of society would be little if any at all, other than one of cost.

Most laws do little to stop crime, and in my opinion just dealing more harshly with those who commit crime would achieve much more than tougher gun control laws could accomplish. Guns, after all are inanimate objects until put to use or misuse. Have tougher drug laws reduced the sale or availability of drugs?

deviate, I agree totally with you that there are a great many things much more important that the Federal government such be attending to, jobs, the economy, debt, budget deficits, securing our borders, illegal immigration, to name a few.

The bill that was defeated specifically prohibits the creation of such a list.

As usual, the first step is getting a bill passed, so initially you begin with something that you can later build on.

I'm totally against any more gun laws. Despite the propaganda we're getting fed by the "Liberal media," I believe the Right to bear arms is an essential freedom to the citizenry. Blue states that have these type of firearm bans, have much higher gun crime rates (New York, Chicago and, more.) I wish people would consider the repercussions of taking away the populace's right to self defense. Essentially, in that type of an event, the only people who would get guns would be criminals and government (The two people most inclined to use them,) and leave citizens defenseless in their own home.

The other thing they don't tell you, is that in the long run, they do want gun registries and they also intend to make it a FELONY to give a gun as a gift to a soldier with PTSD. The truth is, citizens with guns are good for society (99.9% of them don't want to cause any harm) However, we're also the last line of defense into absolute tyranny. Look at Hitler, Stallan and, any other dictator thoughout history; they all try to take away guns.

For the umpteenth time, Hitler relaxed Germany's gun laws.

Oh, so because it's prohibited certainly means they won't retain records.. seeing as how the feds always go by the book.

I'd much rather stick to having the background checks run how they are.

please just remodel that 2nd amendment . i suggest the militia(nat.guard)
be addressed separately . let's give them the right to vote on participating
in beyond-the-border deployments . as it is - they are contract slaves .

How about just making it illegal to use a gun to commit a crime, and severely punish those who break that law.

    Individual,
The problem isn't with typical criminals who use guns. The problem is with the mass murderers who have access to high capacity, high fire rate weapons who go on killing sprees in places like schools. They have no regard for anyone's life including their own and often commit suicide. Tougher punishment isn't going to deter them.

Also the type that went on the rampage in North Hollywood after a failed robbery. The ones who were heavily armed and armored. If you remember the police were armed with pistols and shotguns and encountered three illegal fully automatic AK-47s with several 75 to 100-round drum magazines, as well as 30 round box magazines, a Norinco Type 56 S-1, an AR-15 converted to fire automatically with two 100-round Beta Magazines, a Beretta 92FS pistol, and a semiautomatic HK-91 rifle with several 30-round magazines; and ammunition capable of penetrating vehicles and police Kevlar vests. They wore armor which deflected bullets and shells fired by the police.

Eleven police officers and seven civilians were wounded and one of the robbers committed suicide.

I believe everything used was legal (before modification) except one AK-47.

So, those tough gun control laws would force those who would otherwise embark on a life of crime to find another occupation because they would be unable to go to a gun shop and purchase a weapon?

Maybe we need background checks for those who would purchase illegal drugs and those who would cross our borders too.

    They listen to us talk
They read the things we write
They watch us all on cameras
They know where you were last night
They know where you stopped for gas
    Which magazines you bought

    Let us not dissent
Let us not ask questions such as
    Where our freedoms went
"Let's have a look inside those pockets
Let's have a look inside that purse
Let's have a look inside that glove box"
    Or someplace maybe worse

And who was in your house
    While you weren't home
    And looked in your computer
    And through everything you own?
What did they want to know?
    Which websites do you visit?
What have you learned about them?
They want to know - what is it?

    So let us all agree
    Let us not dissent
Let us not ask questions such as
    Where our freedoms went
We'll just fly fly the flag
    Sing G-d Bless America
    Question people's patriotism
Who don't join in the hysteria

I hate getting into this again, but.....

One of the men in the N. Hollywood shootout was a convicted felon, he got his guns from a private source. The idea of tougher gun laws is to remove those guns from the street and make them harder to get. I would see no problem with mandating that records be kept when private exchanges of assault type weapons happen. Anyone selling to a convicted felon should be prosecuted. A record of sell on file could check for felons in either private sales, gun shows or bashes, or private sales. Same as 50 cal. machine guns (which would be much more effective against a totalitarian government).
The other cases of mass shootings by deranged individuals are similar. Background check fail, no sell. Record of purchase compared to deficient mental records, no sell.

Illegal drugs are not legal assault type weapons, which are easily modified, high capacity magazines, or body armor. So I don't comprehend the analogy.
Same for illegal border crossings, what does that have to do with mass killings, or crimes, that use assault type weapons?

He's saying that it won't change anything. Even if you make it outright illegal.

And AR15's cannot be modified to full auto, I don't know where you are hearing that.

    AK's can be though.

I thought that it's possible to replace part of the reciever or bolt or something, and do it?

I know that M4's can be.

Besides, full auto is not particularly useful or deadly. I mean, I'm not saying that I'd rather be shot one way or the other, but most people haven't a clue how to use an automatic weapon.... because the way you do is by treating it like it's not auto.

It's basically stripping the lower receiver all the down and replacing it with all new parts, most of which you can't really find and if you can they are super expensive.

An AK conversion is just filing a few parts.

There is info all over the net about how to turn an ar15 fully auto. It seems to be expensive, but you're the only person I've ever seen to say that it can't be done.

To me that is building a new gun (m16/m4), but for the sake of this argument I'll take my statement back.

But let's see. Go to miami and buy an illegal auto weapon for $2-5k, or spend $8-10k on ATF registered m16 parts?

Hm. I wonder what the criminals are going to do.

Should glocks be outlawed too? There's a drop in full auto sear for those.
