^^so is my brother, who shaves his head with a clipper, so not all the way down to skin, completely by choice - he's not going bald at all.

another one or two of my white friends shave their heads (on is completely down to skin), and they seem to live happy lives.

maybe you need a hefty trip, hedgeclipper, to realize that "you" isn't determined by what you look like.

i remember one trip in particular, where i felt like i could be removed from my body completely, yet still be me. i suppose that doesn't really help in reality though. nevermind.

    Hedge,

I was brash in my posts because I understand where you are coming from, but that's my way of saying hey I've been there and it's not the end of the world so suck it up. I can be insensitive sometimes but I do sympathize with you.

Like I said I was either 20 or 21 when I shaved my head, knowing I would never try to grow it back out again because my hair was receding. That was over 10 years ago and my gf at the time was teasing me about it, but she was hot as hell and didn't care. I've dated and been with some extremely beautiful women since that time.

I'm sure a few have not been interested because of it, but that's no different than someone not being interested for any other host of reasons. MOST chicks put way more emphasis on personality, humor, and the ability to make them feel safe than looks anyway. And beyond that, I'd say at least half like a shaved head and think it's sexy and manly. Add in the ones that don't mind either way, you're up to 70-80%. I'd guess it's maybe 20-25% that it's a deal breaker for, but you don't want a woman like that anyway trust me on that.

You just need to accept it and put it into effect. Shave it with some clippers, or at least cut it shorter. Ease yourself into it. Get some sun on your head, lift some weights and bulk yourself up a little. And most importantly don't give a fuck what anyone thinks about you, especially some dumb hoes who probably have lopsided tits or something they are self conscious about. Only care about how the people you care about think of you. And they won't judge you based on your hair anyway.

And don't take drugs for it or pay for some surgery that probably won't work anyway. Fuck that.

    great post thanks.

I wish I could be as confident as you about it. I really can't say much. And You're not one of those guys who went bald in his 30's or 40's trying to tell me not to worry about it either. The thing is for some people it just doesn't matter, but for me, if I shaved my head I wouldn't have the confidence to be attractive... Like I know its not about how you look
(its about the confidence) -- but how you look affects your confidence. Like I said I'm gonna get a haircut tomorrow and hopefully it will give me the boost to stay happy and keep off this thread for another month or so lol. The way my hair is right now it still looks good. Its far back btu thick enough and the right colour so that my haircut still works... so I'm not ready to shave my head, but I know it isn't gonna be like that much longer. Its going fast.

I wish I could just stop the shedding. That's why I started on this research chemical RU55841... It does seem to make hair stop falling out, but I'm scared of any drug that has an anti-androgenic mechanism of action like propecia... I never get laid anyways, but I still don't like the idea of fucking with my male hormones... so I see what you are saying about the drugs.
But I don't see what you are saying about the surgery. If I can save up enough bucks to get a decent surgery done, why shouldn't I? For some (like you) its not needed because the disease doesn't hurt your confidence, but for me it would make me so so happy. I remember reading about this soccer player who did it, and after the surgery he started scoring like 3x as many goals... so it can definitely help your confidence. If surgery can't fuck over your hormones like the drugs, then why not?

I really really do need a hefty trip. I've been putting it off so long. I've been busy in school, but I've also been really worried about tripping during a time when I feel so insecure -- I keep thinking I'm gonna have a bad trip because of it, and when you think you're going to have a bad trip you often do.

I'll be eating some cactus later this week and I'm hoping it will help change my thinking a lot.

I know that who I am isn't determined by how I look, but I still would like to look good at least while I am young. It feels good.

This is the longest I have gone without tripping for many years now. Its possible that a good trip could really put things back into proper perspective for me.

hedge, is it so fucking hard to believe that a good portion of women will find you attractive EVEN IF YOU'RE BALD?

even girls your own age. people are attracted to different things.

everyone has self esteem issues. but you gotta just power through them.

i'm 6'3...and only about 150 lbs. that's about 70 ish kilo...AKA scrawny. i always wished i was bigger, or that i could put on muscle easily, but at some point i had to accept myself for me.

and i could probably change that easier than you can baldness. maybe that makes you feel worse, (sorry), but i meant that it wouldn't be as defeatist of an attitude in your case. for me it kinda is...but i STILL say fuck it.

girls are attracted to different things.

weeding out the superficial ones is a bonus.

i've seen a picture of you. i ain't gay or nothin (maybe glen can weigh in here ahaha :p), but you looked pretty normal to me.

He seems to have a lot of fun and interesting hobbies as well. I'm just saying Hedge seems to be a cool guy who does nice things but it would really be a waste to see him get all negative because he can't identify his persona with his outer appearance... Everybody changes, even at your age. It sucks that in your case it is your hair but man, it is life. There are other people that get crohn disease or cancer at 19... ;) :p Yes yes, I know, you're looking from your perspective, not theirs. But if a relatively smart guy as you who probably thinks he gained some insight from other trips only keeps comparing at fellow guys that appear to never have to accept such a change in their life yet... well you will always pity yourself. You're healthy guy with fun interests, who has friends and sometimes gets laid. It could be much worse.

Personally I don't think a hefty trip is what he needs right now. If he's in this mindset I doubt he will gain acceptance about himself.

If you're going to take anything to try to work through this, I'd suggest MDMA :)

Yeah, that probably doesn't hurt. I don't really see it as a trip or the means to deal with this problem though. In fact, I kind of get annoying feelings when it is proclaimed a psychedelic trip is THE way to gain acceptance in this specific issue. It's not impossible but it is far from likely in my humble opinion.

I think it can be useful, but something like cognitive behavioural therapy is probably more useful.

I don't have the answer neither obvously but I think dealing with this with a clear mind is probably the best. I cringe when people advise me to go see a therapist but yes, a good and intensive talk with someone who knows what they're talking about sounds better than hanging in your own mind loops while secretly expecting to gain an answer for one of the biggest issues you've faced yet (without feeling comfortable) :p

I look pretty different now. I wouldn't be freaking out, but this all happened so fast.

the cactus in my avatar is very similar i effect to MDMA, but infinitely more powerful, longer lasting, psychedelic, and without a down. :)

but yes I may dose up some mdma with friends sometime soon. Its been close to a year since I've done any so I'm sure my seretonin receptors will be happy!

Now I'm just browsing old fb profile pics and thinking about how cool I used to look... when I should be studying. Fuck!

It seems to me that gay dudes actually don't care about that as much. you see so many bald gay couples. But chicks, that's another story man. No chicks like bald dudes.

well I fix my hair before I take selfies.

yo so is this theory true: I always figured gay dudes were more into guy's bodies, just like straight guys care more about girls' bodies, while girls seem to care more about your head/face/personality.

I mean I know everybody is different, but that is my theory.

at the end of the day it seems that if you're really confident girls tend to just be attracted to you. As a bipolar person, I have noticed that lots of girls come talk to me on days when I am manic. I am probably going through like some sort of BDD tied in with manic depression

but then again who am I to psychoanalyze myself?

dude it is very rare that people actually look badass with a shaved head. You have to have dark eyebrows, good jaw, good beard, not too big ears, and a not fucked up looking skull shape. Otherwise you look totally freaky.

How does this thread get so many freaking replies so fucking fast? I mean I know my op was a little bit over the top... but like I guess this is an issue that is on other people's minds as well? It's not like men's issues gets that many posts...
