Music mostly influenced me i would say, the beatles alot, especially george harrison (even though he said he didnt like hippies haha) john lennon, hendrix, the dead and all the bands from the late 60's and early 70's. their belifs, style and attitude really appeal to me. my friends are cool with it, and always poke fun at it, but not in a mean way. i dont really think about the future too much, but i cant see it leaving me anytime soon

WOW! Talk about the story of my life!

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
Okay, this was actually a couple of different factors, not necessarily people. Alright, so I was always different, but I never knew why. When my friends got into fights and argued over one thing or another, I always stayed neutral. I was a very happy and open child, sometimes to the point where it repelled people. I never really cared about what others thought of me, I just figured that if they simply like me for who I am, then they'll be a lot more likely to be true friends and not just in it for popularity's sake. I stayed far clear from any particular clique, and made sure I was an independent child, standing on my own two feet.

The music was also a HUGE part of it. When I was just an infant, my mom would always try to play that nasty mozart or beethoven, and I would fuss until she put in the Eagles, Beatles, or Jimmy Buffet. I grew up with those three, and when I got a little older, I began to expand my range of music. My favorite radio station plays a ton of music from the 50's up through the 80's, and when I try to listen to most of the modern stuff, it usually gives me a headache. I mean, today's music has little personality, just a bunch of pointless lyrics set to a "cool beat." Where's the music with a message? I eventually listened to Jefferson Airplanes, Jimi Hendrix, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Doors, Bob Dylan, the Byrds, the list just goes on and on....

But I think the one person that really did it was a girl I hardly knew. Her name was Christa Bauer, and I was with her a 40 mile backpacking trip through the Ozark forest in Southern Missouri. That was the point where I began my trip through mind expansion. She was the definition of a modern day hippy. Color in her free blowing hair, a die hard vegan, and a brilliant smile with love wherever she went. I looked up to her and held on to every word. She opened me up to a new world of peace, love, and lots of soybeans. I never saw her again after that, but it's probably for the better, because I wouldn't want to alter the memories I have of her.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
Well, it's been such a gradual change I think they haven't really noticed until just recently when I've started to open myself to even more possibilities. You see, I may have realized what my views and standpoints were, I wasn't sure what "it" was. Then I discovered the way of the hippy, and realized that this was exactly what I was looking for all along.

My friends think I'm crazy, but a good crazy. I don't mind, as long as I'm free to express my love and spread peace. I've started hugging total strangers, and it feels wonderful!! I've also gone vegetarian, and I feel so much more alive and open, and I hope one day to go vegan. I've been doing yoga for several years now, along with deep meditation. Some of my friends think it's pretty cool actually, and I've taught several why and how to meditate, and some simple yoga poses.

I hang with some very conservative people, but I also hang with a few liberals as well. I hang with geeks, cool kids, punks, gays/bisexuals; freshmen, sophmores, juniors, seniors; outcasts, hicks, druggies, and church girls. Pretty much name the stereotype, and I hang with someone that fits it. But some of the ones I hang out the most have very conservative mothers, (much like my own) and I'm the only one wiling to fight against my mom's disaproving glare. They are very shy, and I often have to prod them into coming out of their comfort zone. It is slowly changing them into more independent girls. But I fear they will never reach the point where they discover their inner child of the earth, a fighter for freedom, like I am discovering, and that kind of makes me sad. :'(

    Do you think it'll last?
Yes, I believe it will. And since I sort of, in a sense, was "born to be a hippy," I doubt that will ever change. It is who I am,a and I only hope to keep sticking up for my self and my many causes. :)

P.S. I am currently looking for a liberal arts college with a nice-sized hippie population. (if you have any suggestions, please message me!!)

    But to be serious
Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
There was a girl at my school, Hayley Brown, and I really dug her vibe. She came from a cool hippie family and got me into Jimi Hendrix. From then onwards a whole load of hippies have come wandering in and out of my life. Leaving church was definitely a big changing point for me. I became more philosophical and learnt more about what I truly believed in. Then one day someone said to me while I was adorned in beads, wearing a head scarf and a long hippie dress "You've really come into your own haven't you. Hippieness suits you"... and I realised if I were to be any stereotype. That's what I'd be.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
I have one hippie friend in RL. She's on here "chunnabee". I hang out with her a lot. My best friend Damien is a conservative, but we accept each other. He calls me a filthy hippie a lot. But it's all in jest :)

    Do you think it'll last?
I hope so. I do believe that I have come into my own. I would be saddened if I moved on.

I don't think people should strive to be a 'hippie', you just gotta be yourself.
My lifestyle has mostly been influenced by my parents :)

Honestly, one of my friends got me into the hippie gig. I've always loved the 'Nam era music and flared/bell-bottomed jeans and tye-dye clothes, tho.
My friends... it depends. I have hippie friends, I have liberal friends, I have punk friends, I have conservative friends. Isn't that kinda the definition of being a hippie? Not judging anyone and having unconditional love for your fellow man?
How long do I think it'll last... well, it's kind of a way of thinking if you ask me. That's like saying to someone that believes in God how long they think they'll be a believer. The answer is usually "for life"

    Peace

Im pretty sure ive always been a hippy at heart, but i didnt really know it until i watched an AMAZING movie called Across the Universe. its about two star-crossed lovers named lucy and jude and its a musical entirely of Beatles songs. i fell in love with the beatles. it was sort of all uphill from there. i told someone that i loved the beatles and they called me a hippy. i was like hmmm....:p
so i did some research and looked into what being a hippy meant. i still dont know exactly what it means, but i know that it means i need to be myself and spread the love and peace and tolerance that i believe in.
ive always loved animals and have been conserned by animal testing and animal cruelty, so evolving into a vegitarian (and eventually becoming a vegan if i can manage) seemed natural.
i was also influenced a lot by my awesome english teacher, Mr. Eric Olsen, who was the coolest teacher ever. he tried to teach us to communicate and i think his overall message was to think for ourselves. he always threw in words like "groovey" and "can you dig it" for our amusement, but we all knew he was a hippy at heart.

my friends dont treat me any differently because i havent really changed. ive just become more secure in myself because i know where my place is now. i can hang out with anyone but i tend to stick to my group of friends.

me being a hippy = me being confident, and i love that feeling, so im pretty sure it wont ever change. :D

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippie?
I suppose my parents, technically. I was introduced to it because they were hippies in the 60s/70s (although I fully believe they weren't "true" hippies, seeing as they're very straight-and-narrow now and don't seem to carry any of the opinions or ideals with them anymore). I was fascinated by it and did a good amount of reading and exploring. Of course, all of the music of the time had a huge influence on me--I listened pretty much solely to the Beatles until I was about ten. Mostly I just decided to learn about the idea, and later realised I'd been living it all along. But really, final word (after all that ridiculous verbosity--sorry), nobody "impacted [my] life to mold [me] into a hippie." I've just always been this way.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
My friends treat me the same as they always have, and I hang around with whoever I like. I'm not a hugely obvious hippie, though--I mean, it's not particularly apparent until you get to know me. I don't necessarily dress the part--I wear whatever I want, and I know that what I wear is a tiny part of who I am and really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

    Do you think it'll last?
Sure. I've always been this way, and I see no reason why it should die.

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippie?

I never really became a full hippie up until this year. I mean, yeah I listened to jam bands and what-not, but never really considered myself one. It wasn't up until recently where I realized that this is a culture that I am a part of. I started getting really deep into philosophy, psychology, and started to read books again. I started liking to explore nature and the outdoors also.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?

My friends like me because I am chill. I never get violent and have the ability to go with the flow. I mean, there's some people that make fun of my tie-dye or how I say "dude" or "man" sometimes. Whatever though, they aren't bringing bad vibes my way.

    Do you think it'll last?

Of course. As long as I am still alive, I will be

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
    George Berger, from Hair.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
My friends thankfully accept me for who I am, but don't understand why I do the things I do, act the way I do, and am the way I am. I go to a Catholic high school, where people are discouraged from individualism, which many people at the school accept, and follow what they're told. I don't work like that.

    Do you think it'll last?
Definitely. This time around, we are aware much more on how to HELP others. We know about the environment, and how it needs to be protected. We know that equal rights are possible, as many have become real, and many are now becoming real, right before our eyes. We are able to be more organized, with the internet readily available, as well as cell phones.

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
Music. I really cant narrow it down anymore than that man. It started with Jimi Hendrix...yea...he was probably the first rock and roll I really really heard. I remember watching a documentary on him and just being absolutley amazed. I dont really remember ever saying "oh thats what I wanna be... I wanna be a hippy" the whole thing kind of evolved man... like man it an overnight thing.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
My close close friends dont treat me any different then the way they treat their other friends. I hang out with whoever is with me at the time man...

    Do you think it'll last?
I dont really know... I mean I've never felt as comfortable with myself when I was trying to fit in. I mean I most likely see it lasting till the day I die but people change I guess...

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
I've always been an animal lover, tree hugging type person haha but only really become that kind of style as well when I was 16 and probably from new friends I made and music I heard.
How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
My school is pretty much a hippy school, which means it's also full of pretentious hippy try hards, I hang around with the part that's NOT yet still hippy-ish but people probably still think the same about us.
    Do you think it'll last?
Yeah. I love this way of living.

i got molded into the hippie die because all the things i held for sure crumbled before my -now bare- feet . one after another love, family, work, friends, faith in god, politic beliefs died and turned into smelly dust. i started to think on my own for the first time. i sweared i would never trust blindly anything anymore and apply the golden rule of doubt to every thing my family first who cheated on me beyond my capability to get angry. yes, i smoked some pot too. all my old friends vanished basically because they weren't friends of mine at all and i did nothing to replace them because a new crowd of old hippies and other outcasts came into my life. it is not a very bright life but what else can you do when you don't believe in shit nor you hope shit and finally you don't desire anything in the world except being left alone ? no , i did not get hip in my teen years but to be honest a hippie teen today, around here, is a frequent sighting - as much as unicorns. all you see around are shallow punk kids, their souls killed early by ketamine and other varieties of crap, no one really willing to stare at reality and spit on its face.

Hmm I suppose I am just sick of modern society and I have always been a bit of a flower child born a little to late. I don't have many friend because I live in a small town and no one really gets me. I will always be a hippie till I am created again.
