I was raised conservative, it started in 9th grade when I began to question the values my parents had laid out for me
Also around the same time when I first picked up a guitar
But a lot of it was superficial bullshit. My whole hippiedom was bullshit. Not till I took a life changing trip on peyote not even a few weeks ago I think did I really see what it means to be a hippie today
My heroes are people who love everyone in the world as much as themselves
and specifically Ken Kesey and the merry pranksters for glimpsing utopia

I dont have many friends, but the ones I have and the people I meet are just enough
they dont ask me to compromise who I am

It will last until universal love is in order and then hippie is everyone

2:they treat me good and except my ways and i hang out with a good group of kiddies that love the world just as much as me
3: i know it its in my blood

Looking back, I realize I've always been the way I am... I love nature, always had a wild imagination, love all, and have always been turned on by anything weird. I agree being a hippie is not a phase, but a lifestyle as being a bohemian and artist are. I have lots of friends mostly from swimming and pretty much everyone likes me. I'm not "cool" or popular and don't try to be.I'm me: forever known everywhere I go as hippie chick, tree hugger and that weirdo who talks to strangers :)

It started during the summer of 1968 (40 years ago) Life magazine in one issue printed the pictures of all the men killed in Vietnam during one week. There were close to 1000 men and most of them were younger than 22. The following school year, there were three former students drafted, sent to Vietnam and all three came home in boxes, our school was devastated.
The next year, I discovered pot and booze and don't really remember much since then.
My friends accepted me since they were all hippies as well. Unlike my friends, My Parents remained proud of me and set an example of unconditional love. They never once rejected me, although, they may disagree with my choices, I was always their son.
Do I think it will last? Yes, I do, since I never really gave up the mindset. I gave up the drugs and booze and am very happily clean and sober which is the best way to live.

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
well, it was mainly my father. he introduced me to the music, taught me how to play the guitar and took me to the summer concerts and reunion tours. i love him dearly. i became a hippie based on the whole peace, hope and love ideal. why should we live a life of constant hatred?
How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
my friends don't treat me any different. except they do tease me a lot, but it's all out of love. every once in a while they'll call me a "dirty fucking hippie" or something along the lines of that. some of them share my beliefs so, it's all good. =p
    Do you think it'll last?
yes, because what i feel now will shape how i feel later in life. it'll still be a major part of me. i will always be me.

1.) I'd have to say The Beatles.
One Christmas I was bored, and decided to sit down and watch The Beatles Anthology DVDs. By the time it was over, I was in love with them. That opened up everything for me, and it eventually led me to Pink Floyd. So...I guess music has impacted me the most.
    It still does.

2.) My friends treat me great. I love the people I hang around. I've never met anyone like them in my life. We always have fun no matter what happens. They're a very...interesting bunch

3.) The way I am? It'll last forever. I love the things I'm interested in, and nothing can stray me from them.

Nice thread, by the way! :)

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
Well, Im not really a hippie, but we have similar ideals and we both want a world full of peace, love, and freedom. BAsically we're allies and I'm damn proud to walk side by side with the hippies that started it all. Who influenced me to follow these ideals? The artists that sing the songs I listen to, I can't give credit to just one though, so all of them. Its a good thing That the music reached into my soul and pulled me into the light... cause I would have grown up to be quite a monster. I probably would have ended up in jail... no, someone would have ended up in jail for me. LOVE SAVED ME FROM A HORED FATE! PLUR!

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
Unfortunatly, my friends don't show me much support, they say I'm a few decades late. THey treat me good and they respect that I'm showing conviction to the thing I believe, but they have their own beliefs. I hang out with everyone, you breathe your my friend, but mostly, I get along better with my hip-hop friends. I only know about others who believe the way I do through the internet.

    Do you think it'll last?
Peace, love, and freedom will last till the day the world ends and we will fight for it till that end. We will go beyond, "...because for the first time in history, we have a real chance to build a better world. And when the power of our voices touch the heart of each human being and a new conscience is reached, we will finally have conquered the long awaited and dreamed freedom..." (Brazillian freedom manifesto) People who believe in the power of love and freedom exist all around the world. Love and peace will definitly survive, and no goverment can change that.

    c o n f u s i o n.

if i could only go back in time to the 60's. all of my father's stories. (of course i kno it wasn't all flowers and stuff! (many ppl remind me of nam when i say this))
and we will probably have that opportunity to travel back in time in our life time.

but i can't bare the thought of changing history, music, art, interfering and altering the culture i luv so much now, perhaps to a point (DOMINO EFFECT) of not having the things i fell in luv with. u nevr kno how u could change history!

my conclusion has been to see Traffic play @ the filly east. and skim down my interaction with others no matter how tempting.

Probably my music is what made me a hippy, I fell in love with Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles.

My friends think I'm gonna grow up to be a bum.

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
I was impacted more by my hobbies and interests - psychedelic and jam music, drugs, shopping at the thrift store, sewing and crafting...later I discovered belly dancing, and that really got me in touch with my spirituality, sexuality, and inner peace. It is very much a natural high. Things like belly dancing and yoga have shifted my lifestyle very much - now I love to eat healthy foods and take care of my body the best I can. Somehow I just became a hippie. In middle school I got wrapped up in all that middle school drama - in high school I said fuck it, I'm going to enjoy myself. And I have ever since. :)

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
One of my friends told me it looked like my closet had exploded (when I started to wear whatever the hell I felt like), and most of them have the "drugs are BAD" mindset. I'm kind of drifting from all my high school friends - most of them are still entangled in pointless drama and negativity. I don't like to surround myself with it, and I'm finding new friends that have a much brighter outlook.

    Do you think it'll last?
It'll last, because no one has the ability to break my spirit unless I allow them to. Even when I only smoke once a day (or less), I don't think I've been sober for years. I'm naturally very high and face every day with a smile.

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?

My parents being narrow minded, people being narrow minded, our fucked up society and government. my ex boyfriend who wasnt a hippie, but opened my eyes. Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, the Beatles, Pink floyd. Me.

How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?

My friends treat me good cause I treat them good. Some people call me a stoner and I dont really like it but what you gonna do? Not alot of people are hippies where I live and its kind of outcast. I hang out with anyone as long as they see me for who I am.

    Do you think it'll last?

Yessir, I am who I am.

Hm. My dad started me off listening to pink floyd when i was around 5 years old. I started getting into them, then started playing guitar which led me to bands like the dead, beatles, hendrix, etc. I just like what it stands for.

My friends make fun of me for never cutting my hair, but I don't really care...

    It'll last a lifetime and a half.

Hippie is a pretty generalized and extremely broad term to use. Everyone is different and there's no single way to categorize a group of people, especially in one word.....Anyways.....

I'd have to say a good friend I've had since freshman year of highschool. I use to be way in to sports and things of the sort, then I tore my ACL, started hanging out with my good friend and began to actually question things and want answers rather than just accepting what I was told. Herb probably helped to break down some of those biased walls I had at the time as well. So, both the blessed herb and my good friend along with the many situations, cultures, and mindsets I've been exposed to have made me who I am today.

Since freshman year of high school (around 5 years ago) I've hung out with many different "groups" of people. That's not to say I changed who I was depending on who I was around, I was and always will be who I am, I just enjoy experiencing as many views on life as is possible. My really close friends are now spread throughout the world (mainly in the States though), I've made lots of friends during my treks around this wonderful planet. Nonetheless I have some friends that I literally consider my brothers and sisters and I'll most likely know them for the rest of my life. (My best friend, I've known all my life really well.) My friends are my family, the type of family you can choose and just so happens to choose you.

Do I think what will last? Who I am....well I will always be "who I am" but who we are is always evolving, not necessarily for better or worse (although I hope it's for the better). The things we experience through our senses, emotions and thoughts always hold the possibility of change.

my mum always tells me about how my grandma used to say "that child was down here before" and i've always really felt that way....born in the wrong time....but for a good reason cause someone has to change the world. my mum raised me on alot of bob marley and she got me into john lennon (whom i love)...and their lyrics make me think and make me realize how messed up the world is today and that you can't just sit around like nothing is happening cause a shit load is happening.

    Friends:
I have friends, but not in school. My friends are other young actors i met at a conservatory and we are really close. I don't get along much w/ kids at my school, because they are afraid of what they don't know. My friends out of school are THE BEST...they don't treat me any differently because we all share the same beliefs and interests.

    Do you think it'll last:
As long as I live....my true self will live also.
