    I'm no hippie.

I developed my OWN ideas through lots of reading, much of it on the internet.

I don't wear bright colors because of some failed movement, I don't study music from a half century ago, I don't whore myself out to a "scene" no better than any other ego-masturbating group of people who don't understand the ideals they claim to subscribe to.

I DO wear bright colors, because I like them. And I do have strong ideals, and I do listen to good music, no matter when it's from.

But all the "young hippies" who identify as such in more than comedy are complete and utter douchebags with no sense of history, relivence, or... anything...

Touche RooR. This is one thing I have a bone to pick with, the integration of this countercultural lifestyle into the rest of society, to be labelled as another subculture like punk, emo, greaser, etc. whereas its really a movement that transcends all of that (or it does, ideally). Gotta tie this in to the psuedoanarchists who have no clue what that actually stands for, anymore than a commercialized flowerchild who buys trinkets from Wal-mart.

    Exactly.

I do subscribe to many ideals of the original hippies, and some on this site would say that that makes me a hippie. But I'm not going to go decide to be a hippie.

I could be wrong, but I thought hippie was a NEGATIVE label that was "taken back" by the movement.... It would be like those white guys who call each other "nigga"... yeah, some people took back a label applied to them... and then you took their label? WTF?

Well none of my parents were hippies. i guess i'm just a glitch :2thumbsup: a few bands influenced me to be psychedelic like MGMT, the Beatles, the Who and Led Zeppelin. Some of my friends are kind of against me being all free and against the beliefs of my generation but i have other friends who just think it's cool and support me in being a hippie. They're not even bothered by the fact that i want to try some "mind manifesters" when i'm old enough to get out of my parent's house:sunny:

Nothings original it's not the end of the world. Every one "masterbates" there ego as you put it. You describe yourself as a individual WHO beleives and perscribes to certain aspacts of life already in existence before your "individualated" opinion was formed. You masterbate your ego just as much as the rest of us.. ;) No ones a Buddah bro. Welcome to the collective.

    1) Gandhi, Lennon, Musicians. Mostly myself and my own beliefs and ideas.
2)The people I've been friends with forever. They accept me.
    3) I've been like this since the day I was born, and I shall be the same till the day I die.

I take the ideas I need from different groups, deciding that you agree, to a T, with any group so narrowly defined is almost always just making an effort to fit in.

You obviously read just fine, but seem to have some reading comprehension problems. You also seem to want to think that you're just like everyone else, but maybe a bit stronger, some how, judging from your statements here and elsewhere. Sorry, you need to think about your own ego and how it works and why, before you start talking down other peoples egos. I didn't say I don't have one, I just disparaged some people with out of control ones. You don't seem to see the difference, which is worrisome.

This is meant to read less like a personal attack than it may, having just re read it. But maybe your ego would benefit from some attacking, anyway.

There wasn't any single person who motivated me to label myself a hippie. It was more the musical collective of that generation that steered me towards it. Through psychedelic experimentation and gradual expedition into more and more music from that era, the title just fit me. Still does.

My friends treat me okay. They never get into fights with me, as I do nothing to offend. They occasionally poke fun at the fact that I do not fight at all. Either for fun or for reason. I ended up hanging out with a group of skateboarders. Not because of their peaceful nature obviously, but because they have open musical minds. Its a harsh desert and an actual hippie is a rare species. The only people you find out here that consider themselves a hippie are the people who smoke weed and hear a couple songs from the Grateful Dead or Sublime. They immediately claim hippie status but listen to bumping rap music about bitches and hoes with their friends, a sad sight to see. Fake hippies are plentiful, unfortunately.

It will last as long as I have air to breathe, and I'm able to breathe the air. I have no conflict with this world or anything about it. Its not some phase that I'm just breezing through no, this is the rest of my life. I'll bet money on it ;)

I feel as if a combination of everything led me to be a hippie. My incredibly liberal political and social beliefs from day one, my taste and music and love of art and literature, and probably most importantly feeling a really strong connection with nature.

My friends accept me for who I am, as most of them have similar beliefs and ways to my own. It's the kids at school who are a little harsh and I'm labeled as "that hippie girl," in my conservative town. But it's a label to be embraced, I suppose.

Peace, and I'd love to chat with you all more about this :)

My mom influenced when i was young by starting me off with a good background in hippie music..... and eventually it just clicked for me.

There are a group of us hippies in my school but i hang out with everyone.... I dont judge a person on how they look or what they wear but rather on their personality. Rock On with Brotherly Love Man.

And i am definately going to be a hippie forever.... it may increase or decrease in hippieness over time but i will embrace the ideas of peace love and happiness till the day i die.

Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy?
everything. the music i listen to. my views on society, and the world. my love for the 60's era and the music that was made back then. my attitude and love for life
How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with?
my same friends. they aren't what you would consider hippies. so i'm like, the one hippie girl out of my friends
    Do you think it'll last?
i sure hope so. i feel like this is who i am. i've gone thru phases in life before (skater phase, tomboy phase) but this feels so me. and i feel like i can connect with the hippies of the 60's. like, they rebelled for a cause. they didn't rebel just to rebel, just to look cool and make their parents mad like alot of kids these days. i love being different then most kids. i love making a good difference in the world. i love being one of the few that listens to the music our parents our grandparents grew up on =)

Hey brothers and sisters, been hippie for a while now, kinda found it my self I suppose. Through the love of the 60's and the music. My friends all just accept me as a hippie and get used to me not wearing shoes. Although they hate my anti capitalism rants but I dont give a fuck

None of you are hippies. You're infatuated with a time long gone. It's marginally better than declaring yourself a knight, I suppose. But not much.

    Sounds escapist to me.

In the sense that you do certain things, sure.

But hippies are not something you can just decide to become because you hear some songs. Yeah, music's cool for sending messages and all, but your music should reflect you, not the other way around....

Who says thats all we do? Personally I think its a way of thinking, unfortunately we can't display that over an internet forum.

    My parents to some degree...
    My schooling and society helped.
And then a wise guide at a New Age store I think gave me the final push.

But really I was born with a hippy spirit. I mean you can call it what you want but I've always been into love, anti-violence, pro-nature, an interest in spirituality and the ways of the ancients.

When I was about 13, I started getting involved in some really wierd stuff. I started drinking (blood :D) and turned super gothic. I wore corsets and black lipstick, locked myself in my room or hung out perpetually at the cemetary over the road and pushed everyone who was close to me away. Then when I was about 15, I got really depressed and thought there was no point in life any more. It was worst last year: I tried to kill myself and self harmed on numerous occasions. Then, I got better. I had therapy, antidepressants and lots of support from my awesome friends. Finally people were taking me seriously, people showed me that they cared about me. Seeing this made me realise that there is so much beauty in this world, if only I know where to find it. I worked harder at my relationships with my friends, so that they wouldn't feel alienated by me any more. I chilled out a lot more, relaxed, appreciated the beauty in the world. I started spending more time outdoors, but not in a cemetary :D I swam down streams, walked for miles along empty, tranquil beaches, wrote lots of happy poetry, painted pictures in feilds with grass snakes around my feet...
I became so in touch with nature and with my own mind that I didn't feel that I had any need to be sad or depressed any more. I stopped wearing my restricting corsets and the make up which hid who I really am from the world, and let my free spirited self emerge. Without even realising it, I noticed that most of the new clothes I was wearing were flowered or tie-dyed, and flowing and long. I realised that my hair hadn't been cut in months; I was just too busy healing my broken self. Then one day in therapy I was taking a close look at myself to see how I had improved and then was like, 'Wow I'm a hippie' :p My life has changed so much since last summer; I can smile again, I can live again. I am so glad that I found the true me, but I could never have redeemed my life without my counsellors, my animals and my awesome friends :D
