I think that finding where I belonged helped enormously. Also, this very site helped, because I could talk to people about it without anyone being biased, because they don't know my family and because we share many of the same views.
    Harvey Milk's the best :p

I know, everybody's been so welcoming! On most sites that are this interactive, I usually lie about my age, having been brought up in the age of Internet stalkers and pedophiles, but here I feel a bit more secure. I won't go around posting my phone number or ANY sort of personal information, but I truly feel I can be myself and open up a bit about my life here.

yea exactly! its like i feel a lot safer here than most places on the internet. and not just that but i feel like i can say whats really on my mind without changing words or ideas and people arent gonna judge me. i still have a habit of trying to make sure im not saying anything that would come across as odd but then im like wait a minute, i can be myself. its just really cool. how long ago did you join this site?

    Hi Everybody!
    I'm Jennifer, I'm from Italy and I'm 14.
Since i was a child I used to listen to cool music like Queen, Dire Straits, Doors... but last year I discovered the fantastic hippie world and the fantastic hippie music. My lifestyle has changed. I became to think about peace and love, wear 60s and 70s clothes... My friends started to call me "hippie" or "pacifist" and my parents simply smile when I start talking about 60s. Now, I am happy to be a hippie, is simply amazing because i know i'm different between other million people, i can't be angry with people that call me "fricchettona" (in Italy in the 70s hippie were called like this, but fricchettone was a rude word) because i'm fucking proud to be a fricchettona in 2010!

    Sorry for my terrible English
    Lots of love
    Janis Je

I have always been who I am from the beginning of time... or rather since the beginning of time I have been trying to discover who I am... at the moment this is who I have discovered deep inside myself and this being could be called 'hippie' and it wouldn't be untrue, really... though there are truer things you could call me...

so everything has lead me to be who I am, and nothing... I am eternal, I am everything, so I have shaped myself...

as far as Samuel goes, my identity within human society, and the Holy Living Temple within which my essential being currently takes residence, He has been moving towards this path since childhood... always artistic, creative, way into nature, peaceful, caring, spiritual, nonconformist, 'weird,' etc. ... in middle school I hated myself because I got lost in the TVburgers ... then I started smoking pot and remembered I was someone else before and that was who I am and my childhood made more sense to me... the whole timeline of my life made sense and I picked up the pieces and put myself back together and lead the trail of bread crumbs into the future... now I am still piecing the puzzle together... my friends love me and I love them, very dearly... I talk to everyone at school pretty much, I mean, I would talk to them or I will talk to them if they approach me, or I will approach them if that is what I am meant to do in that moment, but I have not spoken to each of them individually at this point in time... that being said many of them really get me down but I try my best to be accepting... just sad to see sad people...

I am very glad I joined this site as well... I am always myself everywhere and never change any part of myself to fit into what is accepted by my audience or circumstance at that time... well no this is not true, if it was I would be arrested 1000 times over... but as far as I can legally... or as far as I can without legal consequence... which is a shame... fucking society... ah well...

nice to meet you all you wonderful people ~~~
    peace love unity respect, namaste

When I was little, I was the one running around barefoot in tye-dye sundresses. I didn't think much of it until people started calling me "the hippy chick." And still, I don't think much of it. I guess I'll never change, but I'm not a psychic.

It's probably an environment-type thing, where you respond to your surroundings. I live on the outskirts of a veryveryvery liberal college town.

Strawberry Alarm Clock... Don't they do that song "Barefoot in Baltimore"? I need to get some of their music to play on my radio show. They are definately a cool hippie group.

Every chance I get! Tried to walk around barefoot at school. Three warnings, a hall ticket, a piece of gum on my foot, and a staple stuck in my heel. It was definitely worth it, though. :D

Oh, yes. And my evil alarm clock, but mainly the band.

The realization that such a common sense based mindset/way of life even existed. Once I found out what Peace and Love and Harmony was REALLY about, that I was on board for life.

The natural thing for any person to do is find a set of ideals that best fits their mind, then seek out others with similar interests and views. I hang out with similarly minded people who find nothing wrong with the idea of peace. But they aren't %100 on board with it either. Neutrals I guess.

The idea of peace is a great one that will never die, but might never be brought into reality. The idea of every person getting along despite instinctual and hormonal differences. People not wanting to fight, but only doing so out of self defense. Everyone working together happily and contently towards a common good. All of those ideals are amazing in the mind, but to actually convince 7 billion or more people, to stop fighting because its the best way, is a near impossible feat.

Being a hippy scares my parents and grandparents. I love the hippys of the old days :) I don't have the same values...like...I am against drugs...I don't believe in communes...but aside from that...I am an environmentalist...I love loving...I believe that nobody should be unloved...wars are wrong and pointless...and I believe that someday there will be peace. I am happy with who I am, and no matter how hard anybody tries, I am the only one that can truly change me, and I don't want to change this part.
