Sorry Pete, these people like to ChangE topics. Getting back on.

Here is an article about getting it done in my province... this is just in my province, not in the entire country.

    http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/ontario-to-make-referrals-for-sex-reassignment-surgery-easier-as-wait-list-nears-1200

Doctors tend to leave Canada because of the shitty pay, thanks to a shitty government and their abuse of funds and taxes imposed on small businesses by this government.. :). It is not the first dr. Exodus.

Is that 136 government funded reassignment surgeries or just the number of surgeries?

Her numbers were from the article I posted a link to above. To which she did not link to the source. That was the number in one province alone. 136 reassignment surgeries in Ontario alone that were government, tax payer, funded... just in one province... and that was in 2015, not last year. :)

    ^^^ This article?

It says there is only one surgeon in all of Canada that performs the full outy-to-an-innie-ectomy

Means most of those 136 you are paying to go to the US or overseas to get it done

So you are not even paying to support your own healthcare system

That Is correct.... pay here and it completely leaves the country... or to another province, ohip stands for Ontario health insurance plan. Each province has their own. It is paid for by the people, deducted from your income, pay checques automatically. But yes a lot of money goes to the USA. I waited 8 months for an MRI. Lots of money from our taxes goes to the USA . Hard to find a GP in Canada... if you don't have one you won't find one in Toronto To see a specialist you must be referred by a GP. Read the other article about dr. In Canada I posted above. The liberal government has taxed them right out of Canada, another dr exodus is expected too.

Here is another article about what happens to our health care, more are taking from than have paid into it in Toronto for sure. Not that I would deny anyone basic care... but it is a mess here. Emerg waits are unreal. My mom, had cancer... no beds available at the hospital because the government could only pay for so many in the hospital. She was in the hallway in a guerney sp* for 4 days, in emerg,

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/munk-debates/canadian-health-care-falls-short-of-what-we-deserve/article598675/?arc404=true

So I don't know, gender reassignment surgery is not a priority to me.

Best sentence of you on here yet. Entirely accurate.

It isn't for most people btw (naturally), on the other hand that's no reason to be against it being covered for (some of) those who do have it as a priority. Especially when there aren't that many.

perhaps you would like to state your own views on it asmo in your own country, rather than telling me what statements I make, you seem to think need your approval regarding my country. Lol. Your are not that important asmo. Lol

I don't know what my country as a whole thinks or does about it. Most dutch people don't have it as a priority either, that's for sure, but what does that mean in regards of them being against it being payed for through tax money? I don't know (very underrated answer). I know that I do not a definitve conclusion about it (as it is not really a pressing matter for me either).

Look, everyone formulates their views as fact at times, this is no big deal on itself. Some people do it on purpose and you are one of them. We don't know that at first with a new poster, but now it has become apparent (after all, we bothered to validate). People like me will point that out chronically.

It has nothing to do with getting approval or the importance of such people. You can try to make it about how important I must feel but really that is not worth responding to (not because I have a superiority problem btw :p). What is worth to point out repeatedly is how some people pose opinions as fact, which if taken for granted will distort the truth.
Now, most people on here don't seem to fall for that tactic but it is too easy to not point it out when we see it. I'm not an expert on canadian affairs of course, but we have some very sensible canadians on here who's insights seem to contradict with yours all the time.

Lol. So yeah. Lol (you're so obvious in your tactics, it's pretty funny seeing you try to act like you're sincere and reasonable)

Hey now, be nice. He did point out that it's unnatural after all. It's about time somebody said it. A couple of decades ago we'd have referred to someone with Jenner's condition as "senility". It's not too far off the mark to point out that the bulk of the sex change (archaic term, but accurate) seekers have serious mental issues.

Yay, you put me off ignore. Safe places can feel a little restricting after a while of course, I understand.

Anyway, I pointed out that it is unnatural? What are you blathering about? Technically it's unnatural to have a boob reduction too. Who cares if it's unnatural? Btw there's gender confusion in the 'natural' animal kingdom as well. So it's not nearly always 'between the ears'.

That is unfortunate. My partner had this happen and it was surgically corrected (adult circumcision) and it was covered by OHIP.

Fair enough and your opinion is noted. We differ in our opinions. It is not only monetary that should be involved in medical decisions. There are compassionate grounds. As I stated before I consider gender reassignment to be a human rights issue.

There are a lot of procedures that are not a priority for many people but that does not mean that they should not be covered. A case could be made for neonatal costs, geriatric costs, high risk thrill seeker costs and they are also subjective. That can be a slippery slope and a step towards tiered health care. That is something the lower income families in this country could not seek out. Not where I would like to see us as a country with regards to health care.

There are problems within our health care system and there is abuse not only from health care providers but also patients. Doctors did leave because they were no longer allowed to bill more for services they were being paid for under provincial plans. Patients use emergency services instead of family doctors or clinics adding to costs and wait times. None of this has anything to do with gender issues. We also have an ageing population that adds to health care cost, they also deserve health care. I personally have received excellent health care and at times have had to wait, probably because there are those who are in more dire need of immediate treatment than I am. That is not really relevant to the topic nor is low income immigrants and welfare recipients as they are also entitled to health care, thankfully. I am not even sure what lotto issues have to do with gender issues.

I do not wish for our health care system to become tiered, it will cause the most hardship on those who need coverage the most.

Large part of the problem with wait time is that there are few surgeons qualified to do some procedures. Possibly due to prior demands it is not a field that many considered in the past. Most surgeons would perform far more procedures yearly so perhaps that is why this speciality is so under staffed, just my opinion.

If approved and done out of province the province does pay up to the scheduled amount to the province or country that is doing the surgery. So for example if you live in Ontario and the clinic is in Quebec, Ontario will pay for that surgery. So it does still come from the tax base of the province. If the rate is over the schedule amount the patient is responsible for the difference. The difference can be claimed as a personal medical expense on income tax and your calculation for taxes may partially compensate the difference.

Not sure if I am understanding the question.

We all pay for everyone else's surgery through the funding of provincial plans through our tax dollars and federal transfer payments. So in actuality we pay for surgery for others.

No way in hell do I think this is a priority with the state of our health care. Someone said an aging population. Lol. There is also a growing young population that can't find work. Everyone has an aging population and it does not help our country if people can come here already aged and receive a pension to which they never paid into.

I do have a friends who brought their grandmothers, grandfather over here etc... they received 10 dollars less a month than a vet from ww2 through Canada pension... and received health care.

There is talk of Canada pension not existing or being available in the next 50 years. Another thing that is deducted

I also mentioned the Ontario lottery and gaming. All lotteries like this are government run. The proceeds from it are suppose to go to things like hospital funding, improving equipment ...programs for youths in ontario... schools and universities... etc... this is not how the liberals used it.... it just up and vanishes like a fart in the wind. Dalton mcguinty did that... corrupt liberal... to private liberal supporting firms....billions lost.

So no, just can afford it anymore ... and all this was at the expense of people in Ontario who pay taxes.

I expect better than people dying in waiting rooms in this country and I expect better than my mom, who worked hard her entire life ... to be told I am sorry, you are dying but we can only keep you in the emergency hallway, where it is noisey until a room comes available.

Nope, your sex change is not a priority to the majority so... no sex change
