if this was some ancient south american city that practiced chanting with hallucinogenic drugs, syd barret would have the been considered a high preist.

 

genius and insane are basically the same thing anyway.

 

to describe genius i would use albert einstein as a comparaison, to describe insane, i would be like i had the most insanly good bowl of cuco puffs

 

i believe when you don't know the difference between what's going on in your head to what's going on actually, you are insane.

also, genius means you have access to a lot of things in your mind... artistically, scientifically, whatever.

insanity subjects you to many, many things but you don't have a choice, and you can't turn it off if it gets heavy.

one is capability and the other is torture... and it's a fine line.

most geniuses are insane.

 

Most people think it was the acid.

To me it seems like his original "craziness" was an inside joke that only he understood. He was odd and saw the world abstractly so he played into what people believed about him. But then he got addicted to the mandrax and I think that's what ended up ruining him.

 

Not sure. That is the story as Moore told it, although he also was on acid, so who knows. I know the documented video shows hardly any of the trip given that being on lsd he most likely tripped at least 8 hours and the video is at most less than an hour.

 

Also acid was Syd's drug of choice so god knows how many times he took it. Even if he was a little uneven, noboday takes that much acid without becoming a little bit of a space case. It was good to see them at live aid reunited although they were a little rusty, Comfortably Numb was beautiful ... hello.. hello..hello is there anybody out there. Love for junkies...

 

if pink floyd didnt get david gilmoure they wouldnt have been nearly as popular. but syd barret was the shit, and i would give anything to have tripped with him while he was writing 'everescing elephant'. and acid definatly made him a little crazy tho. he once went to a pink floyd concert after they kicked him out and jumped up and down brushing his teeth for like 8 hours without stopping.

 

That's like 3 Syd stories put together.

He would go to concerts and glare at Gilmour for "stealing his band".

Years later he showed up while they were recording "Wish You Were Here" and did the toothbrushing while jumping thing. He also had shaved off all hair on his head, including eyebrows.
