It's a neat mixture of complete stupidity, fuckwitted reasoning and the usual cod-leftism anti-corporatism. Nothing you haven't heard or seen before, but magnified out of all proportion. Might be worth watching if you already know the guy's a ****.
its sad that people will actually pay to see a guy eat mcdonalds...i dont know if i hate that people are that stupid, or if i was too stupid to think up the idea first.
First of all, thanks to the jack that said fat people are lazy and irresponsible. When I was in high school I was 5'9" and weighed 185 pounds. I was considered "fat" by most of the people at my school, specifically guys. The funny thing is that 12 years later at 30 - I'm 5'11" and weigh 190 pounds, and dammit if I don't run into these same people I went to high school with who say -- "You look great, you haven't changed a bit." (said over a nice big beer belly or butt that spread to both sides of town) --- Keeping in mind that while in high school I was neither lazy nor irresponsible --- I worked out in different activities anywhere from 2 to 8 hours a day, so to say that I was fat (I wasn't - just bigger than other people, always will be) and imply that I didn't care about what I ate or was too irresponsible to get up off my ass and do something about it seems a little --- idiotic to me? Grand of you to notice how lazy and irresponsible all of us "fat" people are. As for the movie --- At first I wanted to see it, then I thought - Wait a second, this guy is 1) A moron for eating *only* fast food. I mean, he could have better proved his point in a thousand different ways, but I guess to be *seen* in our media you have to be extreme. 2) Why do I want to watch a 2 hour McDonald's commercial and 3) It doesn't take 8 bucks to figure out that over processed food will make you ill if that's all you're eating. So, no, I'm probably not going to watch it. Gina.
I have not seen the move. But all that I wanted to see is that we babysit several kids, and when we go driving by McDonalds, they start begging for it!!!! I think the marketing has totally brainwashed these kids.
Cosmic Butterfly, What you are witnessing is the powerful effects of Behavioral Modification. Dr. Watson, in his famous experiments with infants and young children, discovered how easy it is to modify and manipulate human behavior. This is achieved through the process of association. That is, for example, you associate a loud un-pleasant noise with the face of a monkey. For the rest of his life the child will then compulsively cringe at the sight of a monkey. McDonalds, similarly, associate their unhealthy fast foods with the happy fun face of Ronald McDonald. The result is that the last several generations compulsively suffer from obesity. Dr. Watson, in the early 20th century, left academia and took his research to the advertising industry, revolutionizing it. In advertising, Dr. Watson set out to prove his thesis that; the consumer is to the corporation what the green frog is to the experimental physiologist. That is, the corporation, through associative advertising, can easily modify and manipulate the behavior of the consumer. Adolf Hitler was heavily inspired by the works of american behavioralists. Like many politicians since, Hitler learned to associate his political policies with the sence of group security in patriotic nationalism. Hence the phrase that 'Patriotism is the Last Refuge of Scoundrels'. What the movie 'SuperSize Me' reveals is that nothing is too extreme in the pursuit of profit. Certainly not the deliberate and extreme behavioral modification of our innocent children.
Thing is, 185 lbs for 5'9" isn't fat. Taking regular exercise and eating sensibly, you're highly unlikely to reach 300lbs, some serious negligence has to be involved. Just because someone calls you fat, doesn't mean you are. Anything eaten exclusively, in that quantity, for that length of time will have an adverse effect on your health. It doesn't have to be MacDonalds. At the end of the day, you have to be completely blind and insular to not knkow that MacDonalds food is not good for you. The implication of the film is that people are forced/brainwashed to eat MacDonalds, but in reality, the guy made the film because he hadn't got much money and wanted to get attention. He is NOT looking out for your health. And kids aren't brainwashed. Sure there's advertising everywhere, but there's also their parents, who are in a position to educate them. A child under 5 doesn't have the option to get hooked on MacDonalds unless someone buys it for them. To claim that advertising is behavioural conditioning is to try and absolve yourself of responsibility for your own actions.
By sacrificing his own body to dramatically demonstrate the ill-effects of a fast food diet, the film maker has helped to wake us up; that we may break our irrational response conditioning. To expect average adult parents, who themselves are products of a life of behavioral modification, to miraculously see through their own conditioning, and protect their children without expert help, is un-reasonable. To claim that behavioral modification is not effectively used in advertising is ir-responsible. And, is an attempt to absolve ourselves of the responsibility to expose and stop those who use science to manipulate innocent children. Neuro-Cognitive Behavioral Modification is the leading model of human psychology taught in our nation's post graduate schools. Our primate psyche's susceptibility to suggestion has been proven by 150yrs of research and experimentation, and is un-deniable. Remember, we spend $300 billion a year on advertising because it has been proven to work!
My parents must've been fakirs or something then, as they did pretty well in ensuring that I don't go to MacDonalds three times a day. Look, you can defend it however you like, no-one has to eat fast food, which has been consistently and publicly proven to be unhealthy, for every meal. Healthier food is both cheaper and more nourishing, and in my view, the only reason people don't eat it is because they are lazy. You have not been conditioned beyond your capacity to reason. Sure, advertising appeals to man's most primal desires, to eat, to fight, to hunt, to fuck; but humans are capable of overcoming those, and most of us manage to avoid these every day. In my view, those who are persistently violent, gluttonous, greedy or whatever should probably be bred out of the gene pool. To re-iterate: if you're too lazy and irresponsible to feed yr kids something other than crap, you are a shit parent and should have your kids taken away from you.
Your parents are to be congratulated for succeeding in keeping you away from MacDonalds despite the best efforts of modern advertising to make their jobs as difficult as possible. I've never met any parent who would let their kid go to MacDonalds three times a day. But, I've met many a kid who would if they could. Forget the three meals a day scenario; did your parents ever prevent you from going to MacDonalds at all? If so, did you feel resentful? Did you feel alienated from your peers when they were able to go and you weren't? Tell that to a child who has been conditioned to feel deprived if they can not join the fun at Ronald MacDonald's. Sure, a parent can keep them away, but only by risking a child's life long mental health through parental alienation and a potential persecution complex. In other words, modern advertising techniques create a no-win situation for parents. A child's small pool of conscious reasoning is easily overwhelmed by the vast unseen ocean of sub-conscious impulses that behavioral modification is able to manipulate. The parents you characterize are few and far between. Most parents are sensible like your own, whose parenting job was made twice as difficult thanks to the efforts of modern corporate advertising. And the results are children like ourselves who suffer many more mental health issues thanks to the conflict between the authority of our parents and the authority of powerful modern advertising.
Conflict with parental authority is normal, natural, and not a threat to your mental health. Everyone gets it and trying to make it sound like a mental illness just makes you sound like a whiny attention seeking child. "My parents won't take me to MacDonalds because they hate me! I'm so fucked up!" Jesus man... And in answer to your first question: my parents didn't actively prevent me from going there, they just encouraged me not to. And I didn't. And I particularly didn't feel any more alienated from my peers than I would if something else had happened; I'd get over it. It is bullshit to claim that your inability to cope with such a common, everyday factor as peer pressure is either a mental dysfunction or the fault of some evil corporation. I had no idea the nanny state had gotten so extreme, quit trying to absolve yrself of any responsibility for your own actions. If you always take the easy way out, always cave in to peer pressure or let it wind you up and feel insane when you don't, blame yourself, not some advert that millions of other people have seen and managed to cope with.
lol.. i barely get any exercise and go to burger king/macdonalds as much as i want.. or as much as my wallet will allow.. im 18, just over 6' and somewhere in the 150-160lb bracket (dont know pounds that well). so fuck anyone who says eating fastfood all the time makes you fat.
On yr 24th birthday, your stomach will suddenly fall out of yr trousers and will never go back. That's not fast food, that's just life. In a few years you'll get the sudden panic urge to join a gym.
lol.. maybe.. ive been meaning to join a gym for a few years now.. ah well.. il be taking up tae kwon do at uni next year..
its amazing that i can get negative reputation points for pointing out how stupid a movie is about a person eating mcdonalds for a month straight. Maybe people think this guy is a hero or something? Probably someone who thinks mcdonalds is to blame for themselves being overweight.
Tom, I saw the Movie and is was fantastic. While I always knew McDonald's food wasn't exactly nutritious, I never knew it could kill you hotwater
