Whoa, there, buddy. Now you've completely missed MY point. I said I was tired of people reguarding Sufjan's Illinoise album as his best and that people will rarely reguard the older stuff of artists. So actually, I'm not saying to listen to the what's new and hip, because Seven Swans came out a few years before Illinoise. So yeah, obviously I'm not saying to listen to what's new and trendy. You twisted my words. I still listen to Neutral Milk Hotel and Portishead, so CLEARLY I'm not saying there's anything wrong with finding someone who's been around for a while. It's when they're obnoxious about it. Christ, who the fuck is going to go on an Indie message board and not know who he is? Come on now.
Oh! and Oh! I mentioned Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion too. But that's insignificant.
okay sorry to have misunderstood you. I was aware that it was likely going both ways. I am glad you pointed out GYBE and SMZ in this thread too. they are good bands indeed.
Has anyone gotten "Songs for Christmas" yet? I just got it today, and I've just started listening to it. It's really sweet. Kinda weird, me buying a Christmas album, because I'm Jewish, but hell, it's Sufjan Stevens.
First of all, an acuquired taste?!?!!!! I feel in love with the music the minute I first heard it - my sister forced me to listen to a song. Since then I've forced 4 other people to listen to him - 3 have instantaneously gone the same way as me, and the forth was a little too drunk and distracted to pay attention. Secondly, that statements a little too... simple? I can't find the word. Just, no. I'm not saying the C-influence is massive, but it's definately there.
yea, its a great set. i enjoy how each of the cd's were made a year apart starting in 2001(i think) and how he redoes songs, kinda showing how he's changed as a musician.
