How did he wreak havoc in the Philippines? I thought we gave them their independence after we won them from Spain.

Eh, this probably isn't the thread for this.

    Haha yeah probably not.
There's an interesting book on the subject I can recommend if you like.

Pro: he signed the Antiquities Act and he went camping with the likes of John Muir.

    I'm all ears.

    And also a nose...
...and a mouth, and eyes, ears, arms...

    ...I'm a person.

He was a big game trohpy hunter too, wasn't he?

That doesn't sit well with me, but the irony is, we have national parks because of him.

Haha well I'm glad to hear you're... One of us.

The Imperial Cruise by James Bradley.

I do think he was a good president and there are a lot of fascinating and exciting things about the man.

Yeah :/ that doesn't sit well with me either but I just tell myself he lived in a different time. And he was quite the conservationist. I would love a president who prioritizes the environment the way he did

Still reading spark of life, hadn't had a chance to finish.

I feel light headed reading it sometimes. It's visceral and doesn't pull any punches. And the writing is top notch.

So, in short, I haven't finished but I'm already wondering why I am not more familiar with this man.

Yeah, he writes about some tough topics, but his style is so beautiful. One of those writers who both inspire and discourage me.

Because I'll never be as good a writer as him, so why try?
