"takes the cake" hehe. I don't know why but that expression is funny to me. Moreso if people are trying to be seriously disgruntled.

Well that really takes the cake.

    : )

Guy lists an effects pedal on eBay... Opening bid $xx or "best offer". A few days ago I offered $5 over opening bid, he immediately declines. This morning it's going to end and nobody has bid on it yet, so I bid $1 over opening bid. It ends and I'm the only bidder. So in theory I get the item for $xx. But he cancels the order and says the pedal has "some problem"...

Yeah... The "problem" is you don't know how eBay works, moron.

He could have changed it to the minimum price he wants for it after you appeared the only one interested.

Not really... That would be a different type of listing on eBay and you can't change that while it's going. He will probably re-list it though.

In theory if he does re-list I should report it, but I doubt I will.

They can recreate it very precisely and happily in this case they probably will (as its a very popular building that attracts loads and loads of people). So yes a loss but hopefully and likely not a complete loss.

Wishful thinking, Asmo. It would cost billions, and the French government is limited by how much it can contribute due to secular clauses in their constitution. They weren’t even able to raise enough money to fix it properly for the renovations.

    It’s gone.

Happily they're in the EU :grinning: :D

But yeah, you could be right and it's wishful thinking. I hope not though. And it could perhaps be done decades later. Doesn't have to be a short term project

Even if they were willing to reconstruct the building itself... the artwork is irreplaceable.

I think the will is there. But you're right about the costs.
Irreplaceable but well documented. So it could be recreated.
Happily the sacred relics were most likely already not original ;) :p (it includes the crown of thorns among other things)
