Apologize in advance to all my European friends but- - Watching paint dry is more exciting that watching soccer
It is unfortunate that they have to close threads because some people can not just state what they feel and then leave it alone.
The Celsius scale should be abolished and the Fahrenheit scale adopted worldwide. :2thumbsup: Hotwater
I think abortion should not only be legal but encouraged on people who get pregnant under the age of 18.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just thought of this thread upon seeing another thread, and thought it might be interesting to bring it back for a bit...
ahhhh, i was hoping to see an unpopular opinion of yours. one off the top of my head...professional sports are boring
Professional sports are so boring! I was just saying today I love college football but can't stand pro football because it is too flawless. I like when college football players make mistakes; it makes the game interesting. As for me, I think most of my opinions are unpopular, in my geographical region at least
Seeing as most countries use celsius, people should just get rid of fahrenheit. We are obviously right.
Hehe I mostly feel the same about most pro sports as you guys (just not about PR's statements about most of its fans). I mean I can see the purpose and fun of it that others have for pro sports but I just can't be bothered to follow it myself. The exception is the world cup of soccer and the european soccer championship when the Netherlands is included (they normally are, but they screwed up terribly)
(on Hipforums at least) Sports are one of the most amazing achievements of mankind, It is one of the few areas of human endeavors where there is an emphasis on finality. Also the potential for sports sparking social change is significantly understated. I.E. Jackie Robinson breaking the "color barrier" in Baseball in 1947 Jesse Owens dominating the olympics in Hitler's Germany Fallon Fox amongst others sparking discussion on the issue of Transgenders before Caitlyn Jenner ever existed
lol.I am saying this with the best intentions, but I have the opposite view. I call sports "gladitorial nativism". People align themselves with teams based on locale (nativism). They are very vested in the outomces of games, take pride when their team wins, sad when they lose ect. But in reality they have no true tie to that team, should not take any pride in their wins or let the loss impact them. They did not do anything to contribute to that team in any important tangible way. They feel connected to the team but it is not an authentic connection. Its a misplaced way of looking for community- because capitalism is so dehumanizing. Further its just another distraction, like the gladiators (hence the name above), from politics and economics. Social issues dont matter that much to the rich elites, but money, economics and politics do. If people put as much effort and energy into trying to change the world for the better, or being involved in politics, or voting, or helping people, whatever, anything positive, the world would change for the better. Let alone all the money wasted on stadiums, tickets, jerseys, ect. How can you justify that when there are people without food clothing and shelter in this country? Let alone other countries. You cannot morally justify something so superfluous like sports, imho. But like I said, I dont want to argue, just putting the other side of it out there. I think your examples are the rarity not the norm.
