No, I do know quite a few...mostly people I graduated with.

I will tell you, I know 3 people off the top of my head that sell drugs while collecting welfare for their 3+ children. Two of those people drive around in brand new cars (sorry, only 1 in a cadillac)

And I can tell you of probably 5+ people that are USING drugs while on welfare...drugs ranging from pot to Xanax. Hell, a girl I grew up with offered me money for MY Xanax and she has a 2 year old at home.

I apologize for not being more specific. Next time, I'll be sure to include names and addresses.

just because you know a few shitty people doesn't mean the majority of people are shitty people.

and just because you know a few people with bipolar disorder who 'take advantage' of disability/welfare doesn't mean that everyone with a mental illness on disability is doing it to screw the system. it's not an easy disease to deal with, and it can be very hard to hold a job for someone who is bipolar.

Manual transmissions > automatic. Every car I've owned has been a 5 speed and that's the way I like it :)

Also, lead anchors are far superior to tapcon concrete anchors. But because there's a few seconds of extra work, everyone is switching over to tapcons. So now hardware stores aren't stocking the lead anchors anymore and that's bullshit.....

This is the crux right here. I'm unemployed for 3 months and haven't even thought of getting welfare. I don't concern myself with those that do, and if I were wealthy enough to the point of paying significant taxes to the 'bludgers' I wouldn't even concern myself then. I just can't understand this attitude of targeting and blaming people, especially those that have mental conditions and addictions to drugs and money. Nothing more to say really. Focus on yourself.

If you resent your taxes going to 'bludgers', fix it - work less or change the laws. I see less to criticize in those people than the whiny, editorial-style bitching of the masses about anyone who has a perceived negative impact on them.

    - "White guilt" or rather holding race over white peoples heads has gotten way out of hand. Not only will it only build resentment but it is in itself racism, or a form of making someone feel responsible for the actions of a few ignorant fucks who happens to share the same skin tone. I'm sure we ALL have had that feeling before.

    - We should have a military draft, along with volunteers - I think a draft will make us (americans) be more critical of our actions of war/armed conflict.

    - I hate how college's cater to every minority; and if you can get a scholarship just because you're black, then I should be able to get one just because I'm white.

    - I hate how Quebec students are continually bitching about student fees when they have the lowest in the country - that whole province is EXTREMELY entitled and needs a good bitch-slap.

    - I don't think natives should get a free pass into any school free, are completely tax free and can hunt whereever/whenever/whatever any time they choose.

I think abortion is murder. I don't look at a child as a fetus, I look at it as an unborn baby. Also I think women who argue that it's "their body" are selfish in the way, that they completely disregard the babies body, and the babys right to life.

Could you elaborate on this? It seems like an interesting point, as I'm a current student in university, but I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "free pass into school." Are people admitted to schools based solely on the fact that they're from the area? People where I'm from get cheaper tuition as in-state residents, but they aren't automatically admitted.

Also I agree about the Quebecois being whiny. I went to McGill for a while and, as an international student, my fees were unbelievably low compared to the alternative of an American school.

I've been seeing a lot of parenting issues here, but didn't see one of the issues I feel very strongly about (didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been discussed).

I think people (men and women alike) should be sterilized, physically or chemically, whatever, after the age of 35. It's sick when children are born to too-old parents, and I think it borders on child abuse. There's a reason women's fertility drops off when it does, and there's a reason men are most able to have efficiently baby-making sex at a specific time in their life. I've heard of a bunch of cases where the woman never found the right husband but in her 40s or 50s decided she wanted kids anyways. Did IVF or something similar. When you make the decision to have children, you really have to think more about the kid than about yourself. How will the child feel if when he goes off to college his parents are in their 60s-70s? How will the parents feel about having no empty nest until they're that old? So many people just have very little foresight.

And breeders! I could go on and on about how much I despise them. But I won't.

Actually I think parents should be at least 40. You need experience to raise kids, and lots of it.

It's "sick" for a woman of over 35 to give birth? How is that "too old"? No, what's sick is children having children. Girls of 13-16 and even younger having kids, that's what I call sick. A woman over 35 is (at least generally) far more capable of looking after a child than someone who is still at school. Underage mums are far worse than older mums in my opinion.

Okay, I think once you're round about 50, that is pushing it, and nobody should be attempting to have kids when they're on the cusp of old age. But to say that anyone over 35 is "too old" to have kids is frankly ridiculous.

Also, about welfare... it shouldn't even be possible for someone on welfare to afford a Cadillac, so I dunno what's going on there... I've never owned a car, and in all likelyhood, I never will own a car either. I can't drive, but I never saw the point of taking driving lessons as I didn't think I'd ever be in a financial position to buy a car and pay for it's upkeep. And I was correct. I also don't drink, or smoke, or take drugs. Or sell them for that matter. I've barely left my flat/apartment since I was 16 years of age, I've certainly never had anything even close to resembling a social life, that's for sure...

I agree with you that there's also a too young to have kids (in fact it's astonishing to me that people are even having consensual sex that young to be honest). But that's not exactly an unpopular opinion, I would think, and this is just something I feel strongly about, having been around psychotherapists' offices quite often. I'm not going to go into details nor argue further, but I've seen pretty gruesome effects of kids having parents who are clearly too old.

Natives (as in native-american) here, who have a green-card can go to any university/college in Canada for free.
They don't need to be living on a reserve or go to a school in their area, they literally have zero student fees.
All you need to do is prove your grandma was a native, and you get your green-card.
    It's bullshit imho.

I almost feel like the rest of the nation should be as pissy as the quebecers, then we'd get our rates lowered too.. "squeaky wheel gets the grease" and all that...

Yep, that fact astonishes me too. Kids that age shouldn't even be having sex, let alone be having kids at that age. But it does happen, and at a rate that is highly disturbing and worrying. Whilst I think liberalisation towards sex related subjects is generally a good thing, that has came at a price. And the huge surge in such young girls becoming pregnant (at least in the UK) is definitely one of the fallouts from that.

As for parents being "too old", I would agree that there is a "too old" to be trying for children. The only area where we'd probably disagree is when is "too old"? What is the cut off point? You said anyone over 35 is too old, which I think is a bit extreme, and definitely not too old, at least in my opinion. The menopause I think is nature's way of alerting people to the fact that they are indeed reaching the stage where childbirth should cease to be an option for them.

Whilst men do not have that restriction, I feel that the menopausal age in women, is also the age when men should no longer be viewing having kids as an option. I think between 40 and 45 is probably the very latest that anyone should be having kids, and over 50 should be a definite no-no.

I think that every potential parent, not just older potential parents, must think of the needs of any potential child, and put them before their own wants and needs. If this is not happening, then the people in question should not be becoming parents in the first place. But I think all too often when people want kids, it's exactly the "I want kids" mindset that overrides everything else. Putting their own wants and desires over the needs of their potential child. But then again, and I'm sure this is a generally unpopular opinion, I think there are many, many people who shouldn't be allowed to have children in the first place. That doesn't just apply to people of a certain age, it applies to people of all ages.

I think that there should be more than one type of "marraige" that is recognized by the government. I don't think athiest or any non believer should be married in the traditional sense by a pastor/priest/rabbi/etc. I think everyone should have equal rights, but it seems to me to be a bit hypocritical for a non believer to be married in a church. You should have to be a member of said church, or have some type of relationship with the pastor or congregation. A different type of ceremony preformed by someone other than a "man of God," that provides the exact same Benefits as a traditional marraige should be an option.

I realize that this view can be taken the wrong way, and make a lot of people angry. I'm not intolerant in any way, I just don't think someone who denounces the name of God should be married in a religious way. An alternative should be offered besides Vegas style wedding chapels and courthouse arrangements.

Edit: Also, I don't think the government should have any say on who can and cannot get married. I know of a Methodist church that is lead by a Lesbian Pastor. The fact that she cannot marry a gay couple is asinine. But on the same token a church should have the right to refuse to marry a couple for whatever reason. The Government should have no say.

^^ Totally agreed. It's always baffled me why non-religious people would wish to get married in a church, and have their marriage cemented by a "man of god", when the couple don't even believe in god. If that were the only type of marriage that was fully and legally recognised in the eyes of the law, then it may be more understandable. Though as far as I'm aware at least, this is not the case. I'm not sure about the US though...

A problematic area though, is gay marriage. Now, I'm supportive of gay marriage, so that isn't the issue. The problem is, that there are some gay people who are also christians. So obviously, this would mean that they would wish to (understandably) be married in a church. Yet I know a lot of churches would have major issues with marrying a gay couple. Even if gay marriage was legal in the state that the church was in.

Which brings me to a final point... why do so many churches and priests have absolutely no problem in allowing heterosexual non-religious people to marry in their churches, but would vehemently be opposed to allowing gay religious people to marry in their churches?

It is a question, why would any non-religious person wish to get married in a church? But it's also a burning question, why do priests/pastors permit a non-believing couple (heterosexual) to get married in their church?

Good point, this has always baffled me. You can be anti-God and have no problem finding a church to get married in. But yet an openly gay PASTOR cannot. Fucking ludicrous. There's so much hypocrisy within religion it's Rediculous. It's no wonder why so many people are turned off by it today.
