I never understood this. I don't wake up every morning and think "today I'm going to be straight." Why would it be different for gay people?
Precisely. Who you choose to sleep with or have a relationship with is a choice. But who you're attracted to, isn't a choice. If it were, I'd never be attracted to anyone ever. lol I didn't choose to be straight, so why should I believe that gay people have any more control over who they're attracted to than I do? I have actually heard a lot of gay people saying that they would be straight if they had a choice, which I think just about sums it up really.

I mean like all kinds of sex what ever u want lol I think people would be better for it but maybe sex wouldn't be so good I think a little shame makes it taste better
That line of reasoning always sounded kinda apologetic and condescending. Nobody would say that about black people, "Oh they were just born that way."
The huge difference is, black people are never required to "justify" being black. Nobody questions that black people are born black, even racists know that black people are born black. Many gay people do believe they are born that way, and seeing as some people believe being gay is a choice, some gay people feel that they have to re-iterate that they were born that way. Nobody believes that black people aren't born black, but plenty of people believe that gay people are not born gay. So the two scenarios are entirely different. And it's not really apologetic and condescending when many gay people themselves say they were born that way. So unless they're being condescending to themselves by saying it, then it shouldn't be condescending for anyone else to say it either.
A Transexual Or Transgender Woman To Be Precise...:2thumbsup: And I'm So Confidant Of My Judgement, I'm Willing To Bet The House On It... Cheers Glen.
I didn't mean that people weren't born gay, I meant that the justification of 'Oh it's something they can't help' is entirely demeaning. Of course you can be condescending to your own sexual identity, just like you can be black and racist. It's a stupid argument.
This is a great thread. It's a strangely unpopular realization, that if you go by Jesus' teachings.....it doesn't matter if your neighbor is gay or straight..... You should love them just as well. Even if you believe something is "wrong", that never gives you the right to tell anyone else what is "right." It many circles today, it has become a form of insult to call someone a Christian. Many equate the term with ignorance, and hatred. When the true essence of Christianity is unconditional Love in all of its forms. A hypocrisy has infected the nature of it all, and has turned it into a form of power.
But it is true that they can't help it if they were born that way. I don't understand what your saying I think ur projecting your own feelings onto what he is saying
I guess it could be seen as demeaning, but it all depends on how you take it. It doesn't have to be seen as demeaning, it only is if you see it as also saying there's something wrong with them. It can be taken as demeaning, but it doesn't have to be. Not really. You can be black and racist, but saying gay people are condescending to their own sexual identity is like saying that black people can be racist towards their own race. The only gay people who are condescending to their own identity, are those who struggle to accept their sexuality, or those who just don't like it. And those kinds of gay people are the least likely to say that being gay is something you're born with. The gay people who say that, are usually very comfortable about their sexuality, so therefore, it's not really condescending when it's looked at in that context.
"Can't help." "Wished I wasn't gay." "Nobody choses to be the way they are" That's one page of this thread. If I am projecting, it still sounds and reads apologetic to me.
I'm not a he... I dunno what it is about my posts that makes everyone jump to the conclusion that I'm a guy. lol
